America... more than a tweet.
It's T is for Tuesday.... a day when some of us share a drink and talk about what we're making...
first:
the weather is certainly changeable here in Colorado... from 90+F for months now, to snow and a low of 25F. Weather hasn't been "normal" in the nearly 3 years we've lived here now. Could human actions have affected the environment? Normal was different in the past, according to a lot of natives.
A woman here told me she doesn't "believe in climate change" or have facts like "you people" (wonder just who I am, but I suspect she means one of the people a current administration doesn't respect as American) but she believes there is "NO problem with the environment". She went on to say, she doesn't want to give up her big car or change...
Well, that's one thing.... but, at least admit that humans have had a deleterious affect, then own your decision to keep up a certain lifestyle anyway.
That's more honest, not my way, but at least more honest
Today while it snows, after a 70 degree drop in temperature in 24 hours, I will hopefully be sewing. Or painting. I painted this yesterday so I could remember how the light looked on my mums, through the thick smoke haze, out the sliding glass back doors.

tonight we might drink a glass of our hoarded, peringa sparkling shiraz, while we seek something worth watching on TV.
But this morning I watched two youtube videos, the first one that made me long for the days when I felt safe in America, singing this song in home room after pledging allegiance to the flag, before sitting down to learn fractions.
This second one is for Fall... it's supposed to be Autumn right? or close? I found this wonderful group on youtube, and just love their musical ability, voices, and especially the mom who stands in the back facing sideways and playing the base. You can play it from here...
Maybe I'll write an outline of a novel today, or try to remember how to make a macrame bracelet as mine is getting frayed and we can't get one from the art show this year. Maybe I'll watch TV or read or call a friend. I might have to cook... but it's "chooseday" so...

Hope you have a good "chooseday" - without much snow. It's 45 and drizzling here in eastern SD. Now snow anticipated this far east, but it is definitely not summer anymore.
Love the mums painting. The person ( and I’m being nice) you described who is oblivious to the truth is what we deal with inSun City- home to sheriff Arpaio. Just sayin. I am so jealous of your cool temps. I woke up to dark smoky skies again. I feel so bad for people in CA dealing with those fires!
We have a friend in Fort Collins, CO, and he talks about the impact the wildfires are having there. He says climate change is one reason the wildfires are as bad as they are. I agree with you. It's hard to see how anybody can't see the problem :(
Something worth watching is a bit easier to find now that we have Netflix and BritBox to explore. Every day is "chooseday" for me ;) Happy T Tuesday!

Hoping you feel more positive and relaxed about life soon out west is getting lots of fires and extreme ups and downs of weather for sure-I don't believe in climate change either-the earth evolves and if one reads back into history 1700s and 1800s had extreme weather like we are having now-everything goes in cycles. I do agree less plastic use is important, recycling useful things out of waste would be good too. Happy T

scientists back to the 1800's were warning us of this... it's not a cycle Kathy. It's an accelerated ruin of the planet... but thems just da facts... not too important to a lot of people these days.
We've had cycles, but this is not one... this is a global impact. Sorry, we'll just disagree... the problem is when people don't acknowledge it, the whole earth goes out.

this is true I know this is a big topic but only way to have no "global warming" then would be to live back in the cave man era-no manuf of any kind, no agriculture of any kind no gas, no plastics no nothing at all that would go into the air land or sea
I told my son yesterday how Colorado was going to go from hot to snow. Amazing how that can even happen. Your clean refrigerator makes me ashamed of my own mess!
Oh LeeAnna, I'm going to be singing that This Land song all day long, now. It is beautiful and the photos are so impressive.
As for climate change. I'm a scientist and I KNOW climate is cyclic, BUT we have pushed it to the point of nearly no return. I thought when we got rid of aerosols in the 70s (I read a lot), our ozone would improve. It has not and photos from the space station have shown it is growing larger each year. Some years just marginally, but others exponentially. Those who don't believe can find the data both online and in journals. I never say things I can't back up when it comes to science.
I was born on Earth Day and I have a deep love and respect for the environment and our planet. I worry about your fires, the ones in CA and in OR, too. However, the ones in Brazil tipped the scales this year. And our president refuses to do anything about it. He'll gladly send in troops to fuel the flames of dissension when it comes to peaceful marches, but offers no help to curb the fires that rage across our land. I remember when over half of Kansas was burning. You could see the smoke from space.

Your mums painting is really beautiful! Yeah, the weather. What. the. dog?! Totally weird. Back in the 70's by Friday. I may get whiplash with the weather this month.
It's disheartening when people (like the woman you mentioned) are unwilling or maybe unable to understand scientific reasoning. They just don't grasp the analysis of data that's involved in distinguishing between unusual weather in the moment and long-term, measurable and probably irreversible climate change. And how that differs from past observations of cyclic conditions.
Nice painting, sad that you have such gloomy air quality to depict. I hope your winter weather reverts to some nice fall days soon.

I saw Colorado was suppose to get snow. That seems so early. Do you think it will last? I don't get why people don't believe in science. Of course I am a scientist so I might be a bit prejudiced. LA - we had a wicked storm yesterday - high winds, small hail. Lost power for over three hours. And then last night a heavy frost that took out a lot of my plants - just not practical to guard them all. So, it feels like an abrupt end to the summer season, but I am trying to rejoice in the plants that are still around, such as the asters and the russian sage. Love both of your YouTube videos - thanks for sharing them.
We are stuck indoors due to the heavy smoke and high temperatures. It's been a crazy year. Thanks for the songs. I always enjoy what you post.
Your little pot of mums made me smile both your painting and the plant on the stoop. We saw the news about temps. in the 100s over the weekend and then snow! Your painting of the mums is beautiful. Just like the actual pot of flowers. Sometimes I get so angry at people like the climate change woman you wrote about, I just want to shake someone and yell "WAKE UP!!!" Don't you see the evidence of climate change is happening all around you? Then I remember I am a Christian and I should love everyone, so I don't go around shaking people! :)
I don’t see how people can deny climate change. My son lives in the Pacific Northwest and the fires are frightening.

It is sad, but as you found out, there are people that are in complete denial about climate change and refuse to do anything about it.
My husband is a fan of the Petersons, but we didn't think this song was their best rendition. They can do better stuff than that.

We have heard about the big changes in temperature in some ares of the US and also of the fires. Climate change is definitely real and although we are in a retirement apartment lots of folk here still insist on having huge cars. We have one of the smallest cars and it is very easy to get into as the seats are higher than usual (It's a Fiat Panda) . Love your art and the view of your fridge! A very belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
