While my guitar gently weeps... paper pieced guitars

I took a moment away from the little guitars and the rainbow scrap challenge  but am now trying to catch up with the guitar colors. Today I made a yellow/ gold one and a red one.
These patterns are from paper panache, and very intricate. I could applique one in minutes, but each block paper pieced takes over an hour.

That includes ripping out incorrect angles tho...

 I took the original pattern, cut the sections apart carefully, darkened their outside edges with pen, placed them apart on a sheet of paper, and used that to copy  the pattern.

The designer didn't allow for seam allowances, and I make more mistakes if I don't have seam allowances marked,  so I do that part myself.

The red was so brilliant before piecing but with all the little angles, mostly dark red shows. Still, I would love a red guitar, wouldn't you? The photos are darker than they are in life.

They are really cute all lined up. I may even sew the blocks together like this, with no sashing. I like them in a row.
(The paper is still on them, so they look wonky on a design wall)

I want to do a black one too. I have some black scraps with really glittery silver on them...

One sees so few banner quilts going sideways like this, but there are are places where this would fit well. Hopefully we'll find a house with room for a studio, and a music room.

Sparlkling Pink Guitar

It's HOT pink, really

It make look orange here but this is a bright lovely pink guitar done for the RSC hot pink for July scrap challenge.

The neck is a Jinny Beyer border print scrap. The body of the guitar was a scrap strip about 3" X 10" of a bright mottled pink.

I had other scraps that would have been terrific on an applique guitar  but this paper pieced pattern has lots of acute angles which make any fabric pattern look confused so it's best to stick to something akin to solid.

The background is a lovely faint pink/purple

The bin is more overflowing than when I started...

So who plays a hot pink guitar? A confident man? A 12 year old girl who always wanted to play Pink Floyd? A flamenco musician? 

I would love one like this...
      maybe with a little rhinestone flamingo on it???

Turquoise guitar

this is how it starts...

The color of June at the rainbow scrap challenge is teal with limes. I choose to see teal as turquoise.

Here is my guitar, a free paper pieced pattern at paper panache (I think)

I love it except for the lime interior.
Wish I had put lime accents somewhere else.

Lets just pretend it's like Louboutin shoes that have red soles, shall we?

Get them while they're hot! What kind of person would play this guitar?  A Hipster for sure. Someone who knows the latest coffee craze. If it's a female she wears dangling earrings, has curly hair, lots of mascara.

Green Guitar

A green guitar! The RSC color is evergreen for May. I chose Emerald for my birthstone however, and this is my green guitar 

Pattern source is paper panache
there was much decision making required of Mr. Not afraid of color. He was called in to consult on the scraps used this week as he's the guitarist in the home. 



We auditioned many scraps, the pattern in them, the shade differences and although many were called, three were chosen. 
The base of the guitar is sparkling mottled green, rich as malachite. 

 we nearly chose the fabric on the neck for the base but the pattern was pretty wild for quiet Drew who says his favorite guitar is the blue one because...

The color of the month at RSC 2016  is orange. I had an opening for a new block since I finished with the old strata blocks ( HERE ) and found this paper piecing block at paper panache.

I thought it would be fun to make my guitar playing husband a little wall quilt for inspiration!

The blocks are 4" X 10" so the pieces are tiny. The sections are numerous. It all is a challenge because the designer did not offer it in sections, once again, I had to CAREFULLY cut apart the line drawing into sections, and copy them again.
See how the color swirls on the little scrap of orange? Looks good on the guitar.

when I told Drew what I had planned, and that orange was the first color I'd make, he screwed up his face a bit.

Orange? Really?

This from the man who plays a blue guitar, and covets a hand made green one!!


I love how the floral fabric looks on the neck of the blue one.
I chose sparkly blue for the body of it but since it's mottled the colors fell in awkward places when sewing it. Blue was Jan. color

Still cute.

The pattern designer said to add thread for strings. The neck is a quarter inch... so there's no way to add 6 rows of white stitching on that!

I love the swirly purple scrap I used for the purple (March) guitar.

It does look different when pieced into the tiny guitar however.
The neck was from the tulips scrap turned sideways.

Love how that came out!

Look up in the left corner... see the white thing? It's a scrap given me by an embroidery loving friend, who apparently did not like how the dove came out, so I fussy cut it into the background.

Detail loving husband saw it immediately! Isn't there a dove song?

can you see it in this picture? White on white, it shimmers in person.

So I have caught up with the guitars in color except for the brown (Feb) one.

Who hasn't already seen a brown guitar anyway? lol

I think I am going to piece it today, before I forget the piecing idiosyncrasies for this block.
