Mama likes Fabric!

Look at this adorable fabric I found on sale in CT !
Designed by my local friend Deb Gabel. I  love it! I want to live there. Complete with dogs and cats and birds!
I also got this stash at the same store (sew inspired), most on sale!
I think I'll use the floral batik, really pretty in person to make the purse... if I can follow a pattern instead of making my own that is!

Let me backtrack a bit, and let Milo explain what went down...
Milo, here. I know my Mama is more fun when she's happy, and if Fabric makes her happy, let's visit some fabric stores in Connecticut!. Furst I looked through her directory while lounging around on the hotel sofa.

Yawn! Lots of decisions here, and I have to get Daddy to agree to drive us from place to place and entertain me while she roots around inside for goodies!

I picked out some good ones and we hit the road, Jack!

LeeAnna here... Milo chose some fun places.
I didn't buy stuff at all of them but isn't it great fun to look??!!

I got the Ginny Beyer yellow on sale for $4.99 in one store, and the hocus pocus precuts at another. I love halloween fabric, and these were adorable. I think a very simple design will make the most of them.

Along the way we stopped in NJ at the Olde City Quilts shop where they allowed Milo to terrorize greet the staff! I just love Fossil Ferns, and the row by row patterns at each shop. Both the yardage is extreme sale ($5/yd) and the deer fabric sparkles. The words on the other one are in scrips and French!  The tiny precuts are all polka dots in bright colors. Perfect for ready made hexies.

Milo here... whew! I dragged that Mama to enough stores. Time for a wee nap before we go to bed.
Gotta let Mama calm down before bedtime, so I'll just keep the quilt store directory safe til the morning!
It's nice when you can keep a Mama happy!
(No fabric was eaten in the making of this blogpost)

An open thank you for love

our last day... my face shows the hours of crying that morning
We want to take this opportunity to thank you all. Thank you for upholding us with shared tears, with words of kindness, with love and with prayers. Cole's Dad read each email and comment with gratitude.
We passed the two week mark on Friday, but seems like two years worth of tears.

The fact that Cole was not human does not diminish the fact that Love is love. Loss is loss and a hole in your heart takes time to heal. It will take some more time to work through the stages of grief.
I loved Cole. I work at home, not that I can work these days.

Every time I look at a clock I say " 1pm! Still? Only 1? Then 2? Only 2? Still?

I've managed to get through the days. I burst into tears Friday, had to just leave the empty house, and to walk. It's 105 deg with oppressive humidity. I realized later that  was at 3, the time of our appt two weeks earlier,  when I said goodbye.

I believe I am coming to feel less guilty for agreeing to the shot. I am coming to the necessity of it. I was also thinking about my lab Chelsea. She also had cancer and was really at the end when we took her in. She was so tired she did not have energy to fight it and yet I felt the wrenching pain of deciding life and death for her.  It was even harder for Cole.

People say "you'll know when..." but that is not always true.
I knew for Chelsea but not Cole because he was strong aside from the tumor blockage.  He fought it, didn't want to go, wanted me to save him and run from the vet.

Even when you know what must be done, when nothing else can save them from more pain, you might (like me)  feel guilty for making the decision to let go.

Cole and I had a bond, a communication between us. It took me by surprise, that he made his thoughts known to me so readily. It's such a loss. We are going thru toys,  and throwing away old pillows he slept (bled) on, and meds, and treats half eaten. Each is letting go. Peeling my "fingers" off him. Slogging through a stage of grief.

True to how he always was, he sent a strong message to dig those found balls out of the trash and make a cairn for him out back.
I always said he was like a 6 year old boy, who might come home with all kinds of found treasures in his jeans pockets. Cole kept his poodle eyes open on walks, and came back with odds and ends, and often balls found on the road then carried for a mile home. He loved his found objects and would check each time leaving the house that they were where he left them by the door! I stacked three of these out back and enjoy seeing them too.

Your kindnesses have held me up, when waves of loss wash over.
I can touch the cards, the gifts of art, and read your words in emails.
See the magnet from Oscar and the fiberart post card from Carol, the black dog from Maria and the felt Cole from Monika

Funny, we used to say things like, we'll travel when Cole leaves us. The irony is we don't feel like traveling without him. We won't have to seek a dog hotel. We won't take a water bowl or be stopped by tourists to take a picture, or have people ask to pet the fluffy poodle. We won't get to see him shopping in a new town, or see his glee while running, or watch him sniff each blossom on a bush. We hope to get away soon, to see if we can find healing in another place.
Momma's good boy... may you have fluffy clouds to lay on, lots of ice cream, critters to watch, and angels to hold your paw and remind you we didn't want to let go... but now you can soar.
Cole left two posts for everyone. One is "Cole's Capers... getting a massage at the spa" and one is "Don't pen me in!--or--Momma come to bed!"  I hope to post these this week, to honor him in the way he reached you all to begin with... through his humor and fun.
I was not able to look at pictures until now.

I am writing more stories from his youth... and he was hilarious. What a happy strong smart boy he was! Those will go in a book.

For now, know I appreciate each one of you for reaching out to me, even if I couldn't respond right away.
Your words and the tangible love you sent means so much. Bless you.

Cole's Capers... stop and smell the Pineapple Sage

Flowers have always interested me because they interest Momma.

There, I admit it! It's maybe not a big strong poodle thing to do but I'm strong enough to admit it!
This Pineapple sage smells GREAT!
Yep, stop and smell the flowers. On one long trip we stopped along the way to walk through a cute town. Of course I had my peeps on a leash, and Momma walked ahead. She stopped to look at some flowers, so of course I did too. A couple called out to her to snitch on me, they said, " Did that dog just stop and smell the flowers??"
Then Momma was on to me. After that she always gave me lavender, parsley and basil to sniff.
Um, I mean, don't ALL dogs do this? Or am I extra special?
(LeeAnna here, he's extra special to us)

A poodle's work is never done

Ahhh, a poodle's work is never done.
Look at this bleak landscape, and my people expected me to chase a ball on that collection of gumballs and acorns. There were so many the lazy squirrels didn't even bother to bury them!

So last weekend I had to get my Daddy out there to handle the situation.
It's hard work but somebody's got to do it, and it ain't gonna be me! No thumbs to hold the rake!
That's right Daddy, pick up that rake and get busy!
No doubt about it, this was heavy work. And it was chilly, as I started to shiver even though I am wearing my favorite shirt Momma made. When I wear it I'm....

Harry Poodle from Dogwarts!

I felt sorry for Dad after an hour when he kept rubbing his back from lifting bags of acorns, and suggested we go in for a snack. Supervising really builds up an appetite!

So's I go inside and lay by the kitchen door, just a reminder that a little snack is a good idea... and UH OH!
I hear the peeps saying "toenails"

What? No toenails here! Nope, look I retracted my feet so they'd forget!  Oh my dog! I mean, what dog wants some coming at such an important area with sharp things?!

(I was gonna say, Daddy clipped my nails and accidentally cut off my feet as a joke here, but really that's not even funny since it's a real possibility)
I began bargaining with him... wouldn't you rather have a nice snack? It's Sunday, the "day of rest"
What's the fascination with nails?
The click click on sidewalks just lets the world know I'm coming!

Eventually the pedicure was over and I took a nice calming walk in the Spring sunshine. Haven't seen my shadow in a while. Good to know when I'm ready the back yard has less acorns, and my nails are trimmed and my ball is out there. Ready for Spring!

I'm Officially Over It....Cole's editorial

I am officially OVER IT y’all.
I mean, look at this!

Even the squirrels haven’t shoveled their nest. In fact where are they? Not that I can chase a critter in this pile-up.

I can’t find a decent smelling place to do business. I had to do business in the street like, like, some kind of uncivilized dog.

Oh.My.Dog.  I feel trapped! Get me outta here!
This is a dead end! Where is the cypress I like to visit to leave my pee-mail?

Daddy, keep shoveling.
