yellow hexies rays of sunshine!

These are two yellow hexie blocks (I got the pattern from Twiggy and Opal but changed it) Please refer back to one of my early posts about hexie stars for the pattern source.

I like the block because it's done by hand, uses little scraps (the blocks are 8" X 9") and are graphic.
I do not have fun piecing them. I mean, I enjoy hexies all day long but these tiny spindly points done with EPP are more of a challenge than fun. Still... I started them and plan to make something from them.

There are lots of components done waiting for turning into blocks
and we hope to drive to Frederick today for open houses and a walk so maybe some will be pieced.
First there is the fabric choice, then cutting a rough size, then basting  through paper (not how I do hexies thru back only) then choosing backgrounds to go with stars, basting them, then sewing the whole shebang.

I decided to use the color of the month, yellow, to do backgrounds on some stars and quite love it!
Just to amuse myself... a button flamingo looks pretty!

If I had sewing time this week, I used it to finish the top to my abstract including piecing in the flower strip with two more NYBeauties...
And sewing on a border of stars. Points there repeat points in the top. Yellow gives me breathing room and I expect to both hand and machine quilt this. I made this for a planned exhibit but might choose to keep it instead of selling it. I fell in love with it.
I had to piece two little flower strip pieces together to get the whole saying, but this whole piece came from scraps too small to keep and that's why it sings!
I already did a post on the center of the quilt last week and will do one once it's quilted.
As always, I thank Angela at soscrappy for the rainbow scrap challenge group as inspiration to work in one color for the month.

That's it for me, and I'm linking to these parties:

Wow, your yellow improv just sings! Thos hexie stars look fussy and difficult, but they sure are cute!

I am really loving your yellow improv. The NY Beauty blocks and the fun little flower piece with the poem in it are so perfect for this piece! I like EPP blocks, too- are you making them in lots of different colors?

It almost seems as though the hexie stars would be easier to piece with the old-fashioned template method than with the EPP! But maybe that's because I hate EPP and used to relax with my little pile of traced pieces! Love all the pieces shown in this blog!

Nice stars. Your points are pointy... great yellow projects!

Those stars do look quite challenging to stitch.
I like the photo of the parts and pieces ready to be made into something!

Yes those pointy stars look tricky! I love EPP but not sure I've the patience for those.

As pesky as the points are, they are striking and effective. So love this piece!

What a beautiful quilt you made from all your scraps! Those pieces look so tiny - truly a labor of love.

I still am working on string blocks with soscrappy colors and had yellow from last year. However, yellow is my absolute favorite color!!
I guess I could have put together some yellow hexies or something for soscrappy this month, but it won't happen now this late in the month.

As usual you inspire me and make me think out side the box. Those points on the star hexagons would drive me crazy as I like them to be perfect LOL yours look perfect LOL Love your abstract piece is gorgeous and I can see why you don't want to part with it? It would be a great wall art to be placed some where were you can see it when sitting down and thinking, it would sooth you and calm one. Cheers Glenda
