paint and fabric, the creative week's offerings

Index card a day prompt "together

welcome to this week's creativity round-up! I started with one of the index card a day prompts, together, because today is our wedding anniversary. We married one day short of a year from meeting at a contra dance doing what we loved.... we both quickly realized this was the person we'd been waiting for and when that happens you don't want to wait around before starting a life together.

I usually write a poem or small paragraph on the topic, on the reverse side each day... but I just practiced fonts for the word, to print on the front, and decided it told the story without words

I would love to share my cards for this week but later, after I show the finished table scraps challenge piece of fabric art... I got so excited by the prompt this month to use purple scraps and circles...

8" X 33" approx.
I had to stop everything and make it!

I went through my purple scraps and cut lots of circles. Folding squares into fourths then cutting an arc, sometimes a circle was larger than I wanted so I cut a narrow strip off and that became an open circle.

I arranged them onto a background of circle fabric, and used the little glue pen to tack them into place.

I knew I wanted it to be raw and wild. After glue, I layered with batting and backing (both scraps) and began the quilting.

To practice the look of black thread sketching in a free way, I made a pin cushion as a model

3" X 4"

quilted and filled with ground walnut shells

It's so small and I just love how useful it is! Surprise!

Okay then, free motion with black threads, allowing room to do hand stitching later.

wide variety of thick embroidery threads, backstitch, buttonhole, straight stitch, french knots, bugle beads, tiny seed beads, and little cylinder copper beads went on too

Now it was meant for the table but I will hang it on a wall, like a small banner of color, swirling and moving the eye from combination to combination...
top part

I put a thick half inch finished blue silk on for a binding

It came out so pretty... On to the index cards... this post is so picture heavy I won't share the larger paintings this time, maybe next week, but here are the latest prompts

"spinner" collage with sheet music

"chevron" drawing before gold paint was added

"Chevron" with gold and copper paint, "Orange "

each one of these is turning out to be a tiny piece of art for me. At the moment they are all in a decorative box in order. Sadly there is only about a week's worth of prompts left...

"wallpaper" prompt and metallic paints (finetec)

"space"

notes on back of "space" defining spaces that give me happiness

which brings us full circle to the top picture... our family portrait on a 4" x 5" index card

I am finishing up the mark making piece which is hand embroidered with lots of beading. I'll share that and a small hexie piece next week.

Here's to a happy week of creations for us all, to balance out the worries of our worlds.

You are the master of color! So much to see, so much to drool over. I had a circle idea sort of like yours, but I could not execute it. Thank you so much for sharing yours. It is exquisite!
