We woke to a blinding white sugar coated world after yesterday's gloomy off and on snow day.
the fountain looks dipped in sugar! |
I was blessed enough to fall back to sleep after my husband and poodle got off the bed and went downstairs. I feel like I haven't slept well for years.
Breakfast this morning is blueberry cake, made from an online strawberry cake recipe, plus dark roast coffee with milk. We mix it half decaf.
worth getting out of bed for |
The sun came out and is busy this morning melting yesterday's snow off sidewalks. While it's occupied I decided to check in with the T is for Tuesday folk, who talk about their worlds and what they're drinking.
Last week I was drinking this spiced red wine in the evenings...
something about fall spices in wine... |
I was happy that I changed out the closet from summer to winter a couple weeks ago now, as I needed to put on my cuddle duds long 'wears yesterday and today. They are so thin and cozy that I generally layer over them with no problems.
However today they are fighting with the cashmere mended old sweater and the fleece pants. REally their only job is to work together to make me warm, but here they are pulling against each other, causing me stress, in general making things harder than they need to be.... hmmmm.....
hand sewing |
I'm torn about activities today, artwise. Oh I know I have real chores to do, but when it comes down to a choice between sewing/painting and mopping, I'm ashamed to admit art usually wins.
on the design wall |
I finished two quilts last week, story on Friday for both yellow leaf quilts... but the design wall is pretty when I walk into the studio. Inspiration each month partially comes from my online group at SoScrappy where we are encouraged to work with a certain color each month. This time it's neutrals.
ack.
Neutrals are used in just about every design as bit players to the saturated color I want to see. But being a team player, I got out my boxes of beige, white, gray and cut out some blocks to make today with low contrast. I do like seeing a quilt of blocks with some low contrast in there, so my eyes get to continue the lines where they seem to disappear.
I'm tired y'all, so I need to be gentle with myself, to allow for rest, mental and spiritual. I need to pet my dog, look at pretty colors, watch tv and read good books. I need to feel soft clothes all around my limbs hugging me. I need fresh food and good drinks. Then I can continue on.Speaking of gentleness... this video was good for me... I enjoy taking time to make intricate pretty things, and had no idea of the work involved in making paper umbrellas. I have often wanted one here in summers in sunny Colorado...
want to lower your blood pressure, hear gorgeous gentle music and learn how a delicate paper umbrella is made? this is the video for you... it was for me...

Your design wall is very definitely pretty. I can understand why it is a pleasant greeting as you go into your studio. Yesterday we had sleet in the morning, and today we have snow. But we don't expect much more than an inch. It is covering those rotting leaves that make me congested, so I'm OK with the snow.
your wall is a wonderful thing... you find inspiration or hope or a smile whenever you need it ;O)
We just never get snow here any more, so I'm enjoying yours :) and that adorable snowman mug. We're watching Samurai Cat, and there are a few scenes of someone making an umbrella, not nearly so elaborate as in the cool video you shared. I enjoyed it :)
Your design wall inspires me too, LeeAnna. I have a couple more T-visits to make. Then I could clean the toilets or make art. Tough choice, right?
Lovely and fascinating video.
Happy T-Day! Stay safe and stay well. Hugs, Eileen
Cuddle Duds saved me through several 13-degree reenactment camps.
Blueberry cake and coffee sound wonderful for breakfast, yummy! Happy T day, Valerie
That's too much brrrrr for me, but the yum looks good!
The first awakening snow of the season is always so awe-inspiring!
Oh my, I am thankful we had the opposite weather you did!! It's been like summer in my area and I love it. I bet like you many of us make the choice to make art rather than clean;)
Your spiced red wine sounds interesting- never had it.
Stay warm, and happy T day!
i love that umbrella adventure from the gathering, curing, carving drilling (and ALL with hand tools!) to the sound of rain droplets on finished umbrella. a 17 minuet meditation indeed! thanks for that!!
Mopping is definitely overrated as an activity. Ars longa mopping breva. To paraphrase in a language I don’t know.
be well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
okay y'all it means, Art is long, mopping is short!
Ah! Snow! So pretty, but oh so cold.
The blueberry strawberry cake looks very delicious. I'd have that for breakfast any day.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Love the white sugar coated world and your fun snowman mug caught my eye - perfect 😀. Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x
I woke to freezing cold again after a nice warm up last week. I can relate to clothes that don't feel right on your body, too.
I confess I've done more mopping than art making this and last week. I think I've got every room deep cleaned with the exception of my craft room, which is always neat, but certainly NOT deep cleaned. I admire you making art every day instead of mopping.
Your wine looks good, but I'd rather join you for dark roast coffee. Thanks for sharing your lovely quilt wall and art with us, as well as your wine, and breakfast for T this Tuesday, dear LeeAnna.
Your inspiration/design wall is beautiful and very eye catching. So glad that you were able to complete two new quilts.
I am going to have to watch this video. Sounds like something I would love.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
You sure have had snow so far this year. I need to finish my clothing change over because I am worried that we will get a big snow before I do at this point. But our weather has been so nice I've been outside enjoying this gift. Cook video, and glad you have the right attitude about housework versus art. I'm with you! Hope it was a happy T day. hugs-Erika
I'm glad you got some good sleep. The colder temperatures helps me sleep better if I put lots of quilts on top. Haha.
Beautiful design wall work. It's always fun to see what you're doing.
I like your art wall. I always enjoy seeing quilts people have made. The snow made me shudder. I can relate to needing more sleep and relaxation. Happy T-Day!
Creating sounds so much better than any kind of housekeeping chores. Let's hear it for art!
I love what you wrote about being gentle with yourself. I need to do that as well.
Art should take first place over mopping any day! The Farmer's Almanac is calling for heavy precipitation this winter (= snow), and it is certainly holding true so far. Winter wonderland around here. Perfect for staying indoors and crafting!
Pretty photos. That blueberry cakes looks so good! We could all probably calm down and be more gentle, great advice, Nowadays everything is just so unsure and scary with COVID. Blessings to you.
Ugh, snow! Too early! At least there was blueberry cake for breakfast. We’ve been having unusually warm weather so too early for the Cuddle Duds. My MIL had an apron that said “To Hell with housework”. Yes, be gentle with yourself and enjoy your art and craft time. The housework will always be there. Take care. Happy T Day
