I Like Thursday #333

welcome to this week's list of likes....

I like putting out Christmas decor and packing it away. At least it's off the tree and mantle and onto the dining room table. I adjusted the mantle to be snowy, with snowflakes and icicles and white lights

the big snowflake sparkles in the light!!!
and a couple of my origami things

and I wanted to keep some lights for V-day... red and pink on the tree...

I just wound two strands of pink on the tree in a heart shape, and put red lights around the window

don't you find January to be a bit dreary? Lights help! I also put red ones on the banister wound with gold ribbons

outside the weather was snowy this week:

maybe about a foot or so in 24 hours

I realized we don't get that much snow usually, and woke to it looking like a hallmark movie! I tried to take a pic of the snow up to the bed of the truck but the screen blurred it. Still I like the kind of puzzle look to the picture

Reading

audio.... went through two "meh" books and returned them to the hoards who want to read them more than I did after hearing 5 minutes... then started the next library lovers mystery

last week I said I turned off wifi to keep the book I wasn't done with... that does not work with Libby/overdrive.... they snatched that book up without internet! now I have to wait weeks to finish it, but I started this one, by my fave author Rhys Bowen, the latest in series of her royal spyness:

please don't take it from me! I'm reading fast as I can!

Fine Dining   (at home version, still)

I tried this recipe for Greek lemony white bean salad...  so pretty and good, easy too

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27GJ-2AOujk

My bowl
I also tried making pasta salad, then we had a lunch of a grilled turkey with avocado on tortilla, with both salads on lettuce:

just grill the quick burrito so the outside is crispy

 also....

We were given a spaghetti squash as a first time bonus at grocery delivery, so I found this recipe:

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/13948/spaghetti-squash-i/

I never used one before.... slice in half and pull out the pumpkin like pulp/seeds. Ours was very small. Place face down
these are clean just marked up a bit from the business of growing

we made this recipe for lunch, it has onions, garlic, black olives, tomatoes and feta cheese.  It was very good and filling and we'll make this recipe again

watching on TV

sadly New Amsterdam is over, and it was so good. No this is us, no new amsterdam, no a million little things.... but....

The traitors!!!! a British inspired competition show on Peacock. I cannot get enough. I need to talk to somebody and compare notes. Fun, mystery, celebrities mixed with normal people trying to figure out the game. LOVE IT

our prompt this week:

do you make lists? how do you do them, on your phone or a scrap of paper, or some other system?

what kinds of things do you make lists of? Is it working for you?
For example: I keep a list of wines we like, of books to read and ones I've read already, of shows to watch on tv, of quilts I make, of UFO's to finish, of groceries,  of craft books I own.

some are in my calendar. Some are on scraps of paper to be thrown away at the end of the day. My sister kept one notebook with each day's list open. She drew lines thru them, and the next day she started over. That notebook went on errands with her, and stayed by her side most of the day.

I used the computer to make spread sheets for my craft books (hundreds of them) with things like title, author, cost, type of book (piecing, applique, seasonal, mixed media, etc) and what shelf they went on. This plus little colored dots on the spine, told me where to put them back when done, because organization is so you can find your stuff!

I keep a detailed list, or used to til we moved here, of each quilt I made, what shows it was in, ribbons won, size, type, year made and category, Again hundreds of quilts and being a lecturer/teacher who needed to find and take quilts with me for demos meant I needed to put my hands on them when needed. I'm sad to report I haven't kept up with finishes since we moved into the rental then this house.

Milo's Moments

whew! what a mess! A dog has no where to sniff and it's almost up to my privates which is not fun. I was able to leap two times before I did my business and ran back into the house.

my ears nearly blew off me!
Thank goodness the mama told the daddy to dig a trench for me, and daddy swept off the porch. Every time I came in the mama made such a noise! I had to thaw off in my kennel each time.

Good thing I have really long legs! Maybe I'll just keep my chicken occupied today.... b.o.r.i.n.g!

"do something!!!"

please visit these folks to see their list of likes this week, and join us won't you?

Wow the snow! That looks like a butternut squash, which is tan with a bulbous end. A spaghetti squash is yellow and looks more like a small melon. You roast it the same way as butternut, then use a fork to scrape out the "strands" and use it in place of pasta - it's delicious. Thanks for the white bean recipe link - yum! LOVE your pink heart tree! Thanks for hosting!

Hi LeeAnna,
Linda did a great job explaining the squash squashes one squash two squash or is it squashes ? :)
Did I ever tell you about the idea of putting real house plants in an artificial tree ? It looks so cool on the show ! All those different plants coming out of the tree ! Imagine all those leaves, textures and colours ! But every time one would have to water the house plants that would take a bit of work.
Love your January Winter decor !
hugs, take care,
Joanne

I'm sorry that Libby Overdrive grabbed your book back before you were finished, but isn't it a wonderful way to get books to read or to listen to!

You had a nice list of likes! That spaghetti squash looks delish. I used to be so much better about keeping lists. I felt more in control when I did so I hope to get back to it this year.

I love spaghetti squash and make it occasionally for myself, as my hubbie doesn't like it. Butter and parmesan are my favorite add-ons. I haven't downloaded that most recent Royal Spyness book. My dining room tree has a few red cardinals and sprigs of red buds tucked in yet, at least through Valentines Day. I may leave the cardinals all year. We got about 5" of snow over night, but since we're staying in a hotel all week for meetings and training, we didn't have to get out and drive in it luckily.

That's definitely butternut squash, not spaghetti squash. It's raining here. We've had less than 12" of snow this winter which is way below normal. I'm really tired of the gloomy gray skies. Off to (hopefully) sunny FL in about a month.

Aloha, Milo! Such beautiful snowy scenes. So different from Honolulu. Looks like you have been using your time richly. Wishing you a safe and happy winter!

I love the pink lights. I took down our stuff the other day...sometimes I keep lights until valentines day....maybe I will go look for some...it helps get through the winter doldrums. New Amsterdam made me sad...I thought there were a few more weeks.

Milo in the snow...cracks me up. We always shoveled paths for Percy when it got high...miss doing that.

Yes lists....on the computer and scraps of paper!

LOVE your winter-themed mantel and looking at all that snow from this far away!!

That is a lot of snow - it's definitely a good thing that Milo has long legs! I love your Valentine lights for this dark time of year, too. The bean salad looks yummy - I'll have to try that one! Happy Thursday!

The snow looks beautiful! And yes, I make so many lists...they are everywhere! And I love Rhys Bowen books, I should go check if there are some I haven't read! Happy Thursday!

It looks like lots of snow out there! I love to decorate for Valentine's Day. My son's birthday is Valentine's Day so it's doubly fun! Your recipes always look so good when you make them. I used to watch New Amsterdam and loved it. Then they started changing the night it was on and I lost interest.

Dang, that sure is a lot of snow, we'd be closed until August here! The food sure looks yummy. Hey Milo, no frosty paws pal, just sing to your chicken. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

I’m glad you enjoyed the butternut squash too! If you find a spaghetti squash, as Linda said the strand-y flesh is very good with spaghetti sauce. We used to make foe our granddaughter who is gluten-free. Yummy!
Poor Milo! Deep snow is difficult to do you business in. Glad the Dad built a trench! The most snow in the Denver area in 31 years, I think I read!! I still have some snowy stuff out, but anxious for Valentines Day too!

Hi LeeAnna! Oh, I am so sorry that turning off the internet didn't work for you. It does still pull the book, but you can keep reading until you turn the internet back on. One nice thing is that when you can check the book out again, it will remember exactly where you left off! Wow, that's a lot of snow at one time. We have had very little snow this season. It has been less than an inch this month which is very odd. I'm not complaining, though. It makes it very nice for my commute to work each morning! Happy Thursday to you. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I love your lights on the mantel and tree! I am like you- twinkling lights help with the dreary-ness of the cold months. Personally, I keep a decorate strand hung on our mantel in a way that drapes all year long. They're cute- each light is encased in a small wicker basket, and those stay up all year. I sometimes switch them out in the summer for a more patriotic look. Your recipes this week look amazing! I'm going to have to try one or two of them. Thanks for joining in with Thankful Thursday! 🤎

Most of the Christmas stuff is gone here, too. But the candles stay in the windows until Valentines day. Pretty snow (even if Mino isn't fond of it. That bean salad looks tasty.

We watched the traitors and loved it too...can’t wait for the next series. That’s not snow ....that’s SNOW!! Our little Milly would disappear!!

LA, you photo with the screen could be turned into a cross stitch pattern. Hmmm, be interesting to cross stitch an actual window screen. I suppose it’s been done. Google, here I come. Very cool valentine lights!

You got SNOW. You got more than I got, which was 3 inches.

I like your winter mantel. It looks festive. I'm not a big fan of those lights, though. Mine burned out in about three weeks. I've never had good luck with those tiny lights.

I am still watching PBS on Sunday night. I have never seen any of the shows you say are now gone.

Spaghetti squash has long shreds that look like spaghetti when it is cooked. They are similar to butternut squash, though. In a way, it looks like your finished product has shreds that could be spaghetti. And I like the recipe for the white bean salad.

I used to make lists. I would start each day making a list. One day I wrote (started with) "make list." That was the last I made for YEARS. Now I SOMETIMES make a grocery list, but often just buy the same thing.

Poor Milo and that snow. I feel for him in this weather.

Lovely list esp. those pretty looking snowy pictures. We got the Colorado low here and it brought us a fresh 5 or 6 inches of snow...very post cardy out there this morning. Thanks for sharing your recipe sources...always look delicious. Have a great weekend, you three!

Wow…your lights look so pretty! And your mantle décor is so delicate and…well just lovely.
Yes to your Valentine tree! A dear friend of mine has a very tiny apartment and a tiny Christmas tree. There is nowhere to store it, so she leaves it up year-round! It’s now a holiday tree!
Yes, lights do help! I have “twinkle” lights in my living room and sewing studio.
That is a lot of snow! Stay warm!
Oh! I really enjoy Ellery Adams’ books! Yes! Rhys Bowen is wonderful!
Your meals look so delicious and nutritious! Yum!
I like your idea of using little colored dots to find your books!
I hope you have a great week!

LeeAnna - we would give a lot to get that much snow - we need it for skiing at our local resort! This week we will finally take down our Christmas tree/other decorations. Valentine's Day decs - here we come! January can be dreary, especially in gray Montana. A real, crackling fire in the fireplace helps A LOT! I am cooking once a week to give hubby a break, and I think the spaghetti squash recipe will be my next menu item, followed by the Greek bean salad, maybe with grilled chicken!
