Sunday stories

From The Whirligig's writing prompt .. I offer you a fictional story that feels real...

THIS WEEK'S WORDS come from "Let There Be" by Manny Loly: summer, mirage, corn, pollen, voice, dwelling, ceremony, heal, wounds, song, mountains, laughter

some wounds don't heal right. There are scars left behind to remind someone that they had been injured.

people tell you to move on but the scars say,  remember.

She was practicing the corn ceremony, by herself,  trying to channel her grand mere who once sang the songs of her people.  Grandmere's voice rang out clear, flying over mountains, dodging the coyote, dancing in the winds that spread pollen, celebrating all the seasons that bring life.

Her wounds were deep, deeper than one could easily reach, touching her heart and soul. They had built a dwelling place in her depth and now were a part of her.

Summer was coming to a close, and Autumn stepped up to center stage. This meant change and change doesn't always mean for the better. She had lived long enough to know this. Her people were part of this place, had changed and survived and knew if they could not heal wounds they could learn to celebrate the scars that reminded them they had survived.

a mirage can feel real

Soon the ceremony would begin, voices would mingle, laughter would vibrate into each person's inner dwelling places and tickle the scars life left behind.
