Happy Spring! |
I am writing this on Wednesday, the day before I was to go for my second vaccine shot. I spoke to the doctor's office today and told her of my reactions to the first shot... hives on legs, inflammation, swollen gums and she said not to get the second dose. Especially as it's given in a non medical facility that is not close to a hospital. I am of two minds about this... I need to be protected but my body is not able...She said these are allergic reactions not normal ones.
Thing is folks... we need the majority of citizens to get the vaccine to make the country safe. If a lot of people refuse to take the offered safety from this deadly disease, then I won't be safe. They will keep it going, and it will continue to morph into variants that are even stronger.
If everyone doesn't do their best to help, we'll all be unsafe.Just like with smallpox, measles, and polio.
some people have politicized this disease... just know that even the former president got the vaccine and even says he is responsible for it's development. He had covid but he had access to the Nation's best care, do you? I don't.
So today while my husband is standing in line for a shot at safety, I have more research to do to know when, what or how to take a risk at getting a second shot. The doctor said I might handle the J& J as mostly younger women get the blood clots... o.m.g. If I try getting the second dose she said to do it in a hospital. So....
I liked having supplies to make art
I liked watching ink spread on my calendar page
I liked having ingredients this week to make good things to eat.
and watching videos like Oprah's Spirit Sunday and Dr Brian Weiss and Shirley MacLaine discussing past lives, I liked TED talks on the roku,
I liked reading and listening to good stories.
This was delightful in every way... a retired detective is given a baby elephant that turns out to be a blessing... it's a mystery set in modern day Mumbai and is read wonderfully on audio. I laughed out loud so many times although it's not a comedy as such. It is funny in the way life is funny. I ordered the next book in the series and started it yesterday.
I like that when I have occular migraines I have the time to lie down with an ice pack til they pass. I've had 4 in the last week, I believe from people putting down lawn chemicals around us.
I like that dh found natural fish supplements for our sorry grass
I did a big sort and "organization" of my finished quilts this week, whew! I've made about 250 and kept most of them from king to small wall art. I keep them in order for my lectures mainly, but they got jumbled in the move and I didn't want to do the heavy lifting to sort them. Now they are ready to put on shelves, hopefully allowing me to bring them out on a rotating basis in the house.
I like that we had a couple days of cool weather this week, a respite from the heat that accumulates in the master BR making it hard to sleep
I loved the last episodes of Queen's Gambit, and The Crown, and this season of Brokenwood and Murdoch mysteries that has come available.
I'm tired of my fave tv shows saying they're new when they are repeats (This is Us and Good Doctor)
I liked hand sewing the binding on my painted bird quilt meaning I finished the quilting and it's done! I like hand sewing my tiny tumbling blocks while watching tv.
I love the color red, color of this month on rainbow scrap challenge.
Milo's moments
Milo: I like getting my own pancake, or muffin. When my pawrents have to clean my bad ear they give me treats after. I drag my paws into the ear-cleaning-room, but run to the treat cabinet when done!
Mama and Daddy love me, even when I put up a fight!
Please visit these fine folks keeping lists and let me know if you posted a list so I can add you in!

the green is a super sign of hope that this year will be a better one than last year... (sort of)
Good for the 2nd shot! I love your "old" quilt ;)
Here is my monthly post: https://quiltingpatch.blogspot.com/2021/05/jaime-things-i-like-0521.html
Have a good week!
I'm sorry you have those side effects of the vaccine to worry you because it's so clear that you want to be protected. I did get my two at a hospital facility, through the UC Health system, and there are also Banner hospitals in N. Colorado giving them, too. Maybe check with those two? Meanwhile you are at least more protected than a person who remains completely unvaccinated. I love your Spring quilt with the flowers, and we've enjoyed Brokenwood, too. I wish they gave us a new episode every week!
I love seeing your beautiful "old" flower quilt! I just moved offices and have a little more wall space (at the sad expense of fewer windows) so have hung up some of my old quilts and it makes me so happy to see them. I'm so sorry you won't be able to get a second shot now. The idea of trying to get the J&J at a hospital sounds potentially doable. I'm so frustrated right now here- After a good push to get out vaccinations early we've now plateaued with only ~50% vaccination. It's so aggravating all these people who could get the vaccine but won't. It makes my head want to explode. I'm glad your husband is able to get his second dose and I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can find a safe way to get yours! Hugs to Milo!!
The flower quilt is stunning!! I'm glad you've been able to organize your older quilts so that you can enjoy them more often.
Remember, even that first shot has given you some protection. I have a friend who is not getting vaccinated, as even the flue shot has caused flare ups of her fibromyalgia. She is feeling good and her meds are working right now, so she's not going to risk it. So she is just more cautious about where she goes and the precautions she takes. Hopefully there will be a good and safe solution for you.
Your quilt sure is pretty! Dang, yes, the info on the Covid vaccines has sure been confusing, at best. Sorry you had such a bad reaction to the first shot. Milo, have another pancake pal. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
You have such gorgeous quilts. Sorry you can't get the 2nd shot. I totally understand about how frustrating the people who are able to get the shot are unwilling. (insert an eye rolling emoji) Keep healthy, and safe. I saw a thing recently how we have been trained to "hate" dandelions and how people use weed killers, which cause cancer. Those same companies also manufacture and distribute the drugs for cancer treatments. Things that make you go hmmmm.
Your quilt is so amazing and beautiful! The whole shot thing is sure a tough decision. My husband didn't want to get it (I was okay with it), but my kids were up for it and convinced us to go for it. I had mild side effects and my husband was a bit sick with his (or maybe it was just a guy thing...I'm sicker than you. LOL) It only lasted a few days. Getting hives is a whole different story. I ditto what Collette said! Milo must make you smile all the time. He's so cute!
I’ve been wondering about the second shot myself a bit since I got hives but it was 6 days after the first shot. I guess I’ll chat with a doctor somehow. I was thinking Benadryl before the second 😀. But maybe I should be more serious. Good luck with your art etc. your quilt is very pretty.
no email or I'd reply to your message... the doctor was not fazed by my hives starting 6 hours after the shot instead of inside the 4 hour window. She looked at my allergy history and said this is a warning and the next response would likely be anaphylactic shock and not being near a hospital is not safe. I said they lasted only a day and half this time, the last time I had an allergic reaction they lasted about 4months, again she was unfazed and said it's a warning along with the inflammation. I did a video visit with her.
I'm so sorry about your reaction to the first shot. I hope you can figure something out. You have such pretty quilts, and how fun that you have them organized so you can switch them out throughout your home. Take care!
So smart of you to check in with a doctor before getting the 2nd dose. 80% protection is tons more than nothing! But 95% will be even better and I know you'll be able to work things out for the safest solution. Fun to see the crazy flower piece again!
I am thankful for a nice, dry and sunny day in the low 60's. Such a nice change from the past 4-5 gray and often rainy days. I do not have many or serious allergies, but my immunity system is compromised due to treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. I had the J&J vaccine. I was really tired the next day but that could just as easily been due to the RA. Hope you find a way to get a vaccine.
Hi,
Love all your quilts...they are all awesome.
Have a great day!
Love your quilts aleeAnna. They always make me smile when I see the bright happy fabrics you use. Definitely a good call to check with your doctor before risking the second shot with your terrible allergic reaction to the first one. Sounds like you are having a rough go of it right now. Thanks for the Milo moment and yes I finally have my post up 😉 Carol

I love your Spring quilt, so cheery. Sorry to hear about your vaccine reaction and hope you and your doc can figure something out. At least you have some protection with the first shot.
I like that you went digging in the Quilt Repository, LeeAnna. Super cute quilts!!
And I like that you will be showing more of your finished quilts...wow 250 of them! That will be a real treat. I am really sorry to hear about the issues surrounding getting the second dose for you. A serious dilemma trying to balance the pros and cons. Sounds like you definitely need a hospital setting should you decide to get it. Take care.
I’ll try posting again. Yesterday.. Blogger was broken! So sorry about your vaccine reaction. Hope you can find a resolution. Would you be able to get your vaccine from your doctor?
I really like the bright green flower mini!
Scary stuff about your reaction! I pray for you and those with allergies. Your flower quilt is so happy and inspires me to feel "spring" in all her beauty.
Wow! You've made a ton of quilts! I like visiting your blog! :)
I'm glad you checked with the doctor before getting the 2nd shot, but sorry that she advised against it. At least you have some protection from the first shot and research is ongoing for improvements. I've heard there may even be something in pill form. Hopefully with warmer weather you'll be able to get outside where transmission is less likely (well, after the pesticide effects diminish).
I never realized how many quilts you've made. And you make an effort to display many of your smaller pieces. Maybe you could feature some of your older ones and talk about what classes you used to teach.
Pat
Beautiful.
I really like your flowers. The book looks interesting. Wow, you've had a hard time with the vaccine. It least the first shot gives you a good chunk of immunity as you try to figure out what options are next.
Such bright fun quilts. Love the cheerful whimsical flowers. Happy quilting
Great quilts! You are very talented! Have a great weekend!
Beautiful quilts. Sorry to hear you can't get the 2nd vaccine. Covid is a tricky business. Take care of yourself!! Thanks for linking up.
Overheard in the Grocery Store checkout Line "I have noticed a small but perceptible increase in my husband's you-know-what and his sex drive about 2 weeks after he got his vaccine. Not sure what is causing it but I am not complaining."
Now all we have to is make this go viral and we could solve the vaccine hesitancy problem. I love the flowers. They are so much fun. I am tempted to add a bee, bird or a butterfly. Hope you can sort out the vaccine issue. Sending big hugs to you.
LA - wow, what a dilemma about the second shot ... Clearly, taking your doc's advice is the way to go. I wish I had some other suggestions to offer ... I was very excited to get a standing desk (actually two of them that operate independently) this week - now I have my own space and I am getting all my crafting materials organized in one area. I love a good sort out!
