Red White and Blue Friendship Exchange

Red White and Blue Friendship exchange blocks each 6"
My sewing bee is doing another block/quilt exchange.
This time the theme is Red, White and Blue. The blocks are all 6" quilted embellished with binding. We sign them and exchange them next Monday.
It will be quite a show, as there are 12 of us, 11 in the area and the 12 moved up North but she is still part of the bee!

These little quilts are wonderful to make and share. Just the right size to try a technique, spend a moment embellishing, and design. This is what I used to embellish mine...
I embellished with threads, couched ribbon, crystals and buttons, inks and dyes. I used a stencil and fabric ink pen to sign each one on the back, and a peace stamp because that's my prayer for the world.

The one on top with stars is painted stars on top of the fabric. I used Stewart Gill metallic gold textile paint.

I used a few sheers as overlays, couching them on to the already quilted pieces, just to add a little something fanciful. Most of them are inset circles and you can always see my tutorial on that method in two posts, starting HERE!
I used my little stash of Americana fabrics.
I used my speedy fused binding technique.Find it on tutorial page here
I did a few with a paper pieced pattern of a hot air balloon...
so cute, right? I sewed little pieces together then used that as the balloon fabric on the pattern. The binding is the faux piping technique but I didn't count on having joining problems. The piece is really too small and too stiff with peltex to fold in half to minter the binding join. Still it's cute, and effective. I did a tute on that here

I used a sheer overlay over the white on this one, and bound it in tissue lame. Careful with that stuff!
As always you can click on a pic to see it larger.
I loved the lobsters... heh, heh, in fact I am keeping both the one above and the lobsters for my collection.
I'll show the ones I trade for Monday. For now, I wish you a happy Fourth of July celebration, and remind you that I cherish my

These are great! You must have an enormous stash - those lobsters are the coolest!

Every time I look at a linky party, my eye seems to take me to your pictures!! Working small and playing with new techniques is a great idea and I really like these. The lobster one is my favourite.

I've never participated in a quilting bee...but your post makes it enticing! Thank you for sharing how you made your "signature" label....I took note.

This is a great quilt and a perfect day to show it off too. Heads up I don't know if you are aware of this but when you left me a comment on my blog I couldn't email you back a response because you are a no-reply.

Beautiful job. I love the way you used the overlays to add that something extra. I can tell a lot of thought and work went into the quilt!
