I Like Thursday #223

welcome to this week's list of likes! Snow three times in a week and more for Friday! Whee!

I like cows on bikes!

 Fine Dining

we made the best molasses ginger orange zest cookies this weekend!!! I'm a cookie monster!

I used fresh zest from one orange, and fresh ground whole ginger, plus a leeetle nutmeg since we didn't have cloves.

here they are in ball form, being baked, then finished with a sugary crinkle finish!

easy, roll them in sugar, press down a bit, don't overbake!
then as in every good restaurant, here comes the inspector...
nice sugary aroma, buttery and overall wonderful!
we got 4 paws up rating

We tried an orange coffee cake from the Gasparilla Cookbook (from Tampa) but this time, since zesting with the planer was so difficult I tried using my jar of orange zest plus fresh orange juice... it's okay. Not sweet, not as orangey,  but tasty.

Then my pears were going bad and I didn't have quite enough, I baked a pear/apple crisp that we're having at night, yum.

I tried a casserole from my old Gasparilla cookbook too... very yummy with chicken and broccoli

Reading

I am a slow nightime reader and tired of the library taking back my mysteries. I am in a big push to finish the current one, and the one that was returned to me the last time. Same old ones. I might have to go to purchasing them, dang it!

listening

I have an old cd player that shuffles between 5 discs and have been enjoying this grouping so much lately while I prepare food. Especially love Celedon Woods, and Jake Simabukuro, with some CSN thrown in because...

Thank you...thank you for all the great links! I love spending a little time listening to music and fun you tube ideas. It's been a great year for that. Cookies look so good! I had a homemade cookie (the kind I have to make without any sugar or regular flour! lol) and I dipped it in peanut butter last night! It's was yummy! holiday hugs!

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without molasses crinkles. I can't imagine them not passing inspection. I will definitely be checking out that recipe. Thanks!

Your cookies sounded yummy, and made me think about making the molasses cookies here too. I have an old recipe from a family friend when I was growing up. No baking has happened around here yet.

I had to smile at the video of the glue/glitter project. We did a ton of those when the kids were growing up. Such fun and even the littlest ones could do it.

My youngest son is a fan of Rising Appalachia! I don't know how he knows of them. Maybe he saw them at a music festival once??? I love their music too. Those cookies sound wonderful. If only I was not on a no-sugar diet. They might be worth cheating.

The cookies look and sound delicious...yum! I don't do the library thing because even though I'm a fast reader, I don't read every day. I use my Kindle for books and it works for me. Lots of fun links!

Those cookies look delicious! Your cooking choices sound like I'd be saying "yes" to seconds :) Rising Appalachia is new to me. I'll check them out. Thanks! I'll enjoy your snow, since we most likely won't get any here.

Your cookies look perfect! I am a lazy cookie maker and often make bar cookies. Thank you for sharing Rising Appalachia. I will be looking them up. I am always on the lookout for good music and youtube is a favorite source. Stay well and thanks for linking up today.

Hi LeeAnna! I'm late to the party and I forgot to post my post today. Geez! What next?!! Here's what I do when I'm near the end of a book but the library is going to pull it - I turn off my internet connection. It will stay on your iPad or Reader until you reconnect to the internet so you can finish the book! Of course, you can't get to email or anything then on that device . . . so that may not help you. I'm so glad Milo can step up and be your cookie inspector. Someone has to do it, and he's just the dog for the job. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Those cookies look yummy! I think a bit of orange flavor goes good in lots of baked goods. I enjoyed that Holiday Tales and Traditions blog hop too. Lots of good stories! Stay warm, Milo?

When I read cows on bikes... I was waiting to see a real cow - LOL... that's what you get from a girl who lives in the country & sees these animals in the weirdest places.

LA - I like anything with molasses, so I shall have to try the ginger cookies! Thanks for the links. I am already done with Christmas shopping this year, but it is never too early to start creating ideas for next year! Rising Appalachia - lots of talent there!

Snow 3+ times in a week?!? Send it this way! Looks like we're not going to get a white Christmas :o(. Happy cookie baking! They look yummy!

I commented but it didn't go through so here it is again.
I'm so envious of your beautiful snow, especially because it won't linger all winter. ;-) Ginger snaps are my favorite, too. I'm in line right behind Milo.
Merry Christmas. Stay safe.
