near where we stayed on Mirror Lake in Lake Placid NY |
Welcome to this week's list of likes. The prompt for the I Like group this week is where do you like going in the summer... is there some place traditional to your family, a reunion or vacation spot? Right now, with threat of covid so high, and me allergic to the vaccine, we go no where. I looked back through my blog at pics of all the places we used to go and Lake Placid NY is top of the list!
here's one post on it: ( waking up is a pleasure)
dh and Cole lakeside at the Golden Arrow where we always stayed |
We took two days to drive up from Maryland to Adirondacks and always stopped in Saratoga Springs, at quilt shops, Princeton, and small towns along the way. Lake Placid was cool and fresh, has a 3 mile sidewalk around mirror lake where we walked twice a day, lots of shopping and restaurants, boat dock parks to sit and read or bead... we recharged there.
As a child, another time and place... Maggie Valley NC was our go to place for summer...
we owned a lodge, and stayed there often... a perfect location for a little girl
eventually my parents invested in two more cabins on the mountain so our extended family often went there for long summer vacations. I remember:
hiking, fishing, rolling down grassy hills, playing in the creek so cold my toes went numb, picking blackberries along the road, then making cobblers. Lots of kids playing and adults playing poker at night telling stories. Going to square dances, shopping for junk that kids love, visiting Cherokee and Gatlinburg , watching the clouds below the porch, and the freedom to explore, going up to Ghost Town amusement area,
main street Ghost Town |
where I did the same thing each year, watched the same "shoot outs" and dreamed of being a "dance hall girl" on stage when I grew up. They had tv stars that appeared there and often came to the Lodge for a late night drink... fun stuff.
Between the lodge and our cabin, we spent so many good summers there.
I liked these t shirts this week
t shirts from https://www.daedalusbooks.com/shirts?page=2 |
I liked this book on Audio, a character driven story of how a group of women in a suburb of NYC interact and grew and talk to me after you finish it. I related strongly to it's message of women's issues
we have a bumper crop of grasshoppers this year, and I marveled at how they blend in to the stones
I'm very interesting to watch! |
the poppies are poppin' |
see the tiny pepper? size of a beebee? |
This week I cooked and cleaned and kept Milo sorted out. He got groomed Sunday, and doggone if he's not a "blue poodle" Gray ish. Blue poodles turn gray from black around his age, 5.
Milo's Moments
turned blue but still cast a big shadow! |
it's hot again, my ears are hurting again, but I still want to be outside! Mama tries her best to help my ears but now when I hear the word "EAR" I run away!
Mama made more of my pumpkin cookies yesterday and boy did they smell good out of the oven! Pumpkin and almond butter and oatmeal/oat flour with an egg. All good, very nutritious so I should have all of them now, so I can be big and strong! Right? Amiright?
now please visit these folks with lists of likes to share too! What is your go to place in summer?

we love this places..and we loved this dream to become a dance hall girl... it's a super dream...
Some wonderful locations for summer fun! As a kid the only summer trip we took was to drive to Kansas from Minnesota to visit my grandparents - something we did about 3 times a year. My memories involve fireflies and it being hot and dry.
The Black Hills has been our favorite summer trip every year as adults. We drive and explore, and play golf. When the kids were still home it was fun to ride the 1880 train, and do other "touristy" things. Three years ago we had all the kids and grandkids out there together for several days of fun. Unfortunately we didn't get there last summer or this summer, and I miss it.
I grew up in NY State, so spent lots of time in the Adirondacks, but I don't remember ever going to Lake Placid. It looks beautiful! We were more down by Old Forge and Raquette Lake most of the time. Those t-shirts are great! Milo, many of us have gray hair - it's a sign of wisdom!
When I was growing up, we spent two weeks at "camp" on Lake Champlain, near Ticonderoga, NY. My father's company closed down the first two weeks of July. We went fishing and I got lots of sunburns. We visited Fort Ticonderoga (Revolutionary War), the North Pole (a Christmas themed park) and various other sites. I read a lot. There was a general store where boaters pulled up to get gas and supplies. Once I was grown, vacations were mostly just spent at home.

Fond memories and we don't go anywhere anymore either. Covid sure changed the world.
Love seeing handsome Milo. He makes me smile.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. l Scritches to Milo. ♥
Wonderful memories of family get togethers. And my love is a beauty!

Milo is so sweet!
Ah, great memories! We took our kids on family vacation to Maggie Valley every year! They loved it. We loved it! Wish we had stayed at your lodge!! Such great memories we have!
Hi LeeAnna,
Love the Science shirt !
hugs, take care,
Joanne
Those are some wonderful photos, Maryland has some really pretty places. Milo, I'm sorry your ears are hurting, we hope they get better soon. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
What wonderful memories from Lake Placid! It looks beautiful in your pictures. Love the t-shirts! I hope Milo got a cookie for being so cute!!
I've never been to Lake Placid. I have been to Lake George and Plattsburgh, but somehow have missed Lake Placid. It looks beautiful though. I had to laugh at Milo and your ear story. Dogs figure things out pretty quick, don't they? Have a great end of the week. hugs-Erika
Well Milo looks super-handsome after his spa day. :-) I've not been to any of those places, but wow, they all look gorgeous! Both of the t-shirts are spot on! Might have to investigate the books one for my daughter. Do you have a link for Milo's cookies recipe?
I remember knowing of Lake Placid as a place for winter sports. I never thought of it as a summer place. Aren't kids funny? When you grow up so far away from certain places, they seem foreign and unimaginable. Looks like such a serene place to vacation.
Love that SCIENCE tshirt. I need to find one of those.
Milo, you are just as handsome as ever! Black or gray, who cares??
LeeAnna - when my husband and our two kids lived in Cleveland, we camped as a family in the Adirondacks a couple of summers. A beautiful place. We liked to return to places to fully explore them, but we did not have ONE place. We also have lots of grasshoppers this summer. Enjoy your weekend!
All those places sound like fun! I definitely identify with the BOOKS Tshirt. I've got little peppers on my pepper plant, too! And I agree with Milo - those cookies sound delicious.
Wonderful summer vacation memories with beautiful photos. Mirror Lake looks like a paradise. In Finland many people have summer cottage on a lake and they mostly spend their vacation there. We sold our summer cottage when we bought this house with a garden. Milo is such a sweet & handsome boy!
What wonderful memories you have shared this week. Your holidays really sound very special. Poor Milo with his painful ears...I hope they are soon much better.
Hugs,
Annie x
Lake Placid looks so beautiful!!!!
It sounds like wonderful memories of your visit to Lake pllacid and the mountain cabins when you were a chuld, Your photos of those events were spectacular, too.
As al;ways, Milo stole the show. Such a cutie. Have a super weekend and new week, LeeAnna.
Good to see lovely Milo he's such a sweetie. I do often wonder what dogs are thinking. Your memories are beautiful, I have a few myself and some places I would still like to visit but Covid has put an end to that. I know they say we have to learn to live with it but we have to be careful as we have my 94 year old mother to consider. My sister-in-law and her hubby have covid at the moment and the only places they have been are the opticians and the supermarket which is why we are still wearing masks most of the time. Take care my friend and let's hope things get better soon. Hugs, Angela xXx
That lake looks so beatiful and peaceful. I can see why you like going there. It is good we have happy memories to help us through these restricted times. We don't drive unless we really need to these days and are limited for places withing walking distance. We live in a small village in Rural S.Spain so most of the surroundings are campo land which is dry and brown right now. Let's hope the rain comes in the autumn so everywhere will be greener again for a while.
We also have a lot of grasshoppers this year. They must like the heat.
Milo is very handsome. I made similar cookies for my Kim a while ago but we tried to slim him down a bit to help with his arthritis, so he doesn't get as many treats these days, but at least they are healthy ones! Thanks for visiting me this week. Kate P.
Beautiful photos. Glad you had a nice trip.
What an idyllic place to spend childhood summers. I'm envious! Totally love the book t-shirt!
Wonderful memories…our favorite family place was the shore in NJ - either Stone Harbor or Avalon. Miss those times.
