I Like Thursday # 54 Scenes from CO

I'm on the road, but here are a few images for I Like Thursday... more later on all the likes and adventures but for today...

I Like wildflowers in a mason jar. This was seen in a historical society of Arvada CO house built turn of last century. The women I met were just lovely and I may come work there when I move to CO. I used to work at the Archeology lab in Historic Annapolis. It's a passion of mine.

I liked visiting Wooden Spools quilt shop  in Englewood CO. They allowed Milo to chill while I looked at lovely fabric and books.
This shop also sells fabric from customers at a discount... must be new not washed. They also have a huge supply of older books, and since I was looking for one, 9-patch Piuzazz, I was able to find it here!
go ahead and shop Mama, I'll take a wee nap!
I Like old photos....
looks like a woman train!
I liked this terrific shop in Denver's Cherry Park
Show of Hands gift shop
Look at a small pic of their glass... shop is full of hand made colorful items including images of bears made from bottle caps!
The shop keeper told me about the area and allowed Milo to lie down while I shopped. Nice! I'll be back!

I liked our reflections- selfie  in this glass

I liked sitting on this open porch in white wicker chairs watching people walk by the Arvada Harvest festival
Aren't these solar lights awesome?
I'll do more photos later but it was a peaceful moment in the midst of worry and change.

We discovered Washington Park in Denver, and the homes around it. Oh if we only had 2 million to buy a home here! Look at this cool roof!!!!

A whole post on our two days at this Wonderful Park later!

I Liked finding a home and chewed my nails when we put in an offer...and started inspections
Milo's likes
I liked all the places we visited and meeting so many dogs... dang this brace! I wanted to play with all of them! Well maybe not the cranky older lab who snapped at my nose. Hey! I'm a baby!

This is a 5 month old black poodle girl I really REALLY wanted to play with!

She played poodle games, reached her paws up to touch me, you know the ones!

Dang the brace again, can't reach out to her, but I tried to bow.

Maybe one day...

I loved this image of two dogs waiting to walk... dog butts!

That's it but for one last sky photo showing the smoke we've been living with for the whole visit. It gives us a sore throat, cough and headache. Hope the rains come soon to the West and stop the rampant fires from the extreme heat and dry conditions this summer.

Climate change is real, and affected by human choices.

Please enjoy these other people's I Like posts and consider writing one yourself! Let me know and I'll add you in next time!

Giveaway! Books!

Both prizes have been given out... thank you for reading!

I'm going off grid for a bit. I have some things to do and need a break.

I wanted to make this a time for a giveaway! There will be two packages.

I am sorry to say, I might have to keep it in the US this time, so I can send these heavy books by book rate.
Mail has become very expensive. I'd love to send them anywhere but....

The first group is four quilting books.
The second group isat least three knitting books.
To win, you must entertain me. Make me laugh for instance.

Or... tell me what  board games you enjoyed and why,  while growing up.
Or both.

I'll give people time to enter, then choose one. Or let Milo do it since he has very little to do right now.

I love the connections we've formed through this blog... thank you for all the fun!

Scenes from Golden, CO

One weekend afternoon we stopped house hunting (we found one later!) and visited the town of Golden CO. Enjoy these scenes from our visit.
Above was a wedding party taking their photos with a back drop of store fronts! Okay....
From the suspension bridge
Many people were riding inner tubes along the river
There was a story of pioneer couple on the historical markers. The wife said she planned to make a little money selling extra vegetables. The husband laughed at her and said, sure you can keep what you make, having little belief she'd make anything. She turned it into a very profitable business, much to his shock!

Never underestimate a woman!

There was a quilt shop but the sign out front said many No this, No that, No the other allowed and it turned me off. No purchase there. I did look in, and the workers never welcomed me, but kept chatting to each other. No offense meant if you love this shop... but first impressions count.

Plenty of friendly businesses to visit so we moved on...

Lots of shops... some funny signs...

There was an antique car display that day that included some loud motorcycles that scared Milo

Tacky photo op
The smoke blew away for a little bit that day... it's been consistently hazy sometimes to the point of darkness and difficulty breathing for all of us.
We enjoyed our visit and plan to return when possible!

Colorado homes...

At least this one has grass!! Let's buy it!
Once we made it to Colorado and checked into the Homewood Suites, we started driving to homes for sale in Parker. We walked around on our own a bit, and the next day I started seeing dozens of options.

Lots and lots of homes, few of them with a viable studio space, or yard.
Oh, so that's the way it's gonna be?
Poor Milo was trapped in the car with me, and let me tell you it's not as much fun as it looks on HGTV.

To be honest I am not that excited about moving although this will make for a fresh start and be very stimulating. We considered all the locations my husband's company has, and decided Colorado was the best choice for us at the moment so here we are... checking it out.

The homes in the Pinery have what locals call "resort deer" and we watched this group chowing down one afternoon. The next day we looked at a home and the deer were laying in the next yard over, like dogs. Lying around inside the fenced in back yard.

That's a lot to deal with... enjoy this video of deer taking advantage of homeowners.

Near the end they hop over the fence like it's a mere curb.

I Like Thursday... cross country part three

Welcome to this week's list of likes... and continuation of our cross country trip.
And we're still in the van! Day four!

Of course we stopped in Goodland Kansas to see the world's largest sunflower painting!
 I don't know the whole story but It's a story I'm sure!

See Milo and Mama at the bottom? Makes me look petite doesn't it? lol
It's flat here. Note the blue sky and location.. right next to Bubba's Meat Block
and the pizza hut. Better take advantage of finding food around here... few and far between eateries. Of course at Bubba's you have to cook it at home.

Imagine painting this!

Once an interior decorator requested I make a quilt for her client. A 6 Ft X 8 Ft duck. Yep, duck.
 One.
 Duck.
 One BIG duck.
I said okay but it'll cost you. She said, dang! That's the same price everyone is quoting.
(well if you really don't want to make it in the first place, you'll need incentive)

I loved this shot my neighbor Maria in MD took at the MD state fair
 Bwaaaahahahaha

I like the moon pic my husband took, and it's intense mostly because of the smoke we're living with here from nearby state wildfires.

I like this birdhouse. My other neighbor in MD, Bonnie, sent me this image so my new neighbors will get the "real" me! Our new HOA requires permission from the committee for birdhouses on your lawn.
Do you think they are winos?
Thought I'd include a pic of the hula girl on my likes too!
I Like her round face, the Uke, her belly and grass skirt. Yep, she's a good addition to my pile O'stuff

Once we made it to Colorado and checked into the Homewood Suites.
I like the hotel chain, and the space. They serve breakfast and happy hour snacks.

They allow pets so there are a number of us with dogs here. I don't like that they won't let us sit across from the breakfast room with Milo like the hotel in CT does. Here's what.... dogs are probably as clean and quieter than little kids!

I like that Milo likes babies. I was shocked one evening to see the elevator door open, a family and leeeetle baby walk out. She squeeled and reached for Milo. He strained at the leash until they got together and touched noses.

What!
Drew said they met the previous day and loved each other.
Cole might have snapped but Milo just adores children. Yea!

When you're as cute as a poodle, children are attracted to you!

Milo's Likes this week:
"No picture because the Mama was in shock, but I like babies! Yep, little human puppies are adorable!"
"I also like being with Mama especially when we three are riding together and Mama is in the back so I can press up against her. Once while she was driving to see another house, I got scared and jumped over the console and into her lap.

"She screamed bloody murder y'all, and she knows poodles have extremely good hearing"

(editor's note: I have had several dogs, none of which ever, EVER moved around in a car. The all stayed put. I had no idea this would happen with Milo as
1. he's injured and in a tight brace
2. he likes his nest and has always stayed right on it
Now we have his ramp and the tall car shade between the front and his nest. Since driving is now out of the question he lies down in his nest again. Don't chastise me for not putting him in a crate or seatbelt. The seat was taken out for the trip and the crate is too large now. His baby crate worked. We'll survive, don't alert the media.

Milo: " anyway, now I am not allowed to drive ever because mama says I have no license so I am stuck in the back where I can hunker down in my cozy nest all protected but bored. I still like to be with my peeps"

That's it for today... please enjoy these other people sharing their list of likes! If you want to join us and I hope you do, please let me know you did a post in comments!
