Creatively speaking.... Fall bag from scraps

this week was one of making the most of moments.

Ever have one like that where the bar was low enough to reach? lol

Over the years I've made many many MANY quilts some of them Fall themed.

Each quilt generates scraps even those made from scraps. I keep Fall themed scraps in a bag which was a jumble of bits and pieces.

perfect for when I feel out of sorts and just want to handle (SORT) leftovers to use
I sorted, into squares of different sizes, rectangles, triangles... and while doing that saw what I had

my goal was to use the smallest pieces to just make two coasters (in today speak, Mug Rugs) and you see a finished one at the top

While I was on a lovely chat with my friend Cindy, in between laughing, stories and rants, I sorted and sewed bit to bit to bigger bit making both finished mug rugs.
I quilted them per usual, and put a different binding on each edge.... cute

as the conversation went on, I decided I wanted to make something with the two 9" quilts.... a bag to carry my camera, phone, keys in while I walked. No pressure, doesn't matter how it's constructed today, just do it improvisationally.

two almost square, almost same size quilts into a tote of sorts

each side has a different feeling. I love the golds here, and the improv geese, the other side has what became a tree trunk and a sort of sidewalk. Great images for a walking tote. I quickly sewed the two quilts together rounded the bottom, and turned it inside out.

The handle was from a tote I made YEARS ago as a new wildcat quilter, tore apart eventually and kept the plaid homespun strap.
FOR YEARS
and last night, decided it was perfect for this Fall themed bag.
always liked that ghostie fabric...

one tiny piece sewn to another, and another and finished into 9" quilts.... sewn into something useful

Along the way I culled out a lot of squares to be sewn into a watercolor pumpkin this week. I found strips to use in improv square in a square blocks to surround that.

I hope to be able to get lost in that Fall project this coming week

Inspired by color on walks... pink, green, gold, brown, on one tree who dresses with abandon...

color is GOOD

Ooooo texture with colors of gold to yellow, plus grey to black

pretty tree skirt I might make this year

Fall comic  for a giggle

I hope to dig out some fall quilts this week, to share next time or on the I Like Thursday post.

join me if you want to focus on the little things that made you smile this week, I'll add in your post

Love, love, LOVE the bag you made from those lovely autumnal scraps, LeeAnna! I need to remember that for a future project.
