I Like Thursday # 301

welcome to this week's short list of likes. I love that this wildflower seed took root at the end of last summer and came up unexpectedly in the rocks in front of the planter. What perseverance that took, and will to live, not to mention bringing beauty into the world. Thank you.

so I'm busy in several art workshops this week, and exhausted but wanted to at least check in with you all and say I'm grateful for you as well as mention a couple likes...

I'm doing the index card a day challenge with prompts and LOVE working in this format. This was from day 6 prompt "daydream"  I love her humanity... and a couple years ago I didn't think I could draw. I've worked at it and love drawing now.

Root
I love the post CLICK HERE I wrote spontaneously this week about the word Root, and would love you to read it and tell me what you think...

I am writing on the back of these cards daily, and it's been wonderful to do, a real record

One day at the computer, I looked up and the sun cast a shadow past my plants onto the far wall... wowie, what a cool moment. I grabbed my camera just in time...the earth keeps turning (because it's round, yes it is) so it was like a tiny momentary gift for me

I have made good friends through this blog... and love to be able to send my daily paintings to a few of them for feedback... and I learned about Austin Kleon from Angela, new to the I Like group...

I not only signed up for the free friday letter but another one too that's new to me, and very creative

comments are still hit or miss.I live for them but ... sometimes they come to blogger but not to the blog, or maybe a lot get really lost. Sad. Technology changes seldom are better for me, I don't know what the techies did but if you really want to reach me, and I'd love that, please email. Addy is on the side somewhere up there=>

We sowed wildflower seeds into big patio pots and they are starting to sprout, hope they are as exuberant as last year!

We're reading, watching shows on tv, and eating but nothing outstanding today...

I still love color...

if you truly love nature you will find beauty everywhere... V. Van Gogh and my acrylic abstract

Milo's moments

Milo: it's hot. I'm hot. but I am playing with my new toy...

there is a squeaker in every leg! They set the challenge by calling it indestructible... of course it's been in this house for a couple weeks and still has it's legs! (mama ordered it from amazon) and every night now I want some rabbit treats hidden in my wishbone so I can get them out! Whee!

that's about it for us this week, please visit these humans with I Like lists too!

Roots....

There is an online challenge to create art daily... on an index card with a prompt and a weekly style

this week the style is pen/pencil/marker... a line making tool and today's prompt is "root"

I drew my from seeing a pic online... just pen and ink (pigma .05) in black.

On the back I wrote my thoughts on roots and realized we have very shallow roots here, almost forming them "in a pot" so we can pick up and go.

New roots being formed

My roots are airborne roots, spread around the earth to women I admire, and love, share life with, who's talents I enjoy... spreading my tendrils so that I can hold on to them when we are all so distant.

thanks y'all

Tenacious Roots... growing in rocks

I'm finding that I can do this size art each day, while having coffee, before getting dressed.

I can also write this much daily, like a tiny journal offering of the moment. I am noticing as I go along that my daily writings are more lyrical but also personal. I would not have thought of this format myself, but now love it.

Old roots go deep
I've had dairies but the space seemed so limiting, even as a young girl. Somehow this is just right because I write my thoughts on that word, and the day.

so today the prompt prompted me to think about roots, and here I am sharing with you... thank you for reading my words, and seeing my art with kindness.

artistic endeavors for the first week of June

see the bit of blue batik pieced in above?
Welcome to this week's round up of creativity chez LeeAnna. The above close up is my crocus banner that, wonder of wonders was made into a top ready for quilting, this week! I'll show more when it's done and dusted but for now, I needed to fill in some gaps in the improv pieced top row and pulled out my blue batik scraps in honor of RSC color of the month Bright blue.

putting something like this together is very like making a mosaic, or a puzzle, careful stitching, adding more, trimming down, always with awareness that each piece changes the whole. I wanted this to have tones of green, blue, purple... all the tones of those colors, so the finished piece now sparkles somewhat like a glass kaleidoscope! I'm content with how it turned out... just a close up with some blues and a wonderful scrap strip of dots in all the colors!!! How lucky to find that in my little bin!

Can't wait to start overquilting this baby! lol  speaking of overworking...

Leaf Study is quilted, by machine, by hand, embroidered and beaded, more when the edge treatment/binding  is finished I'll show the whole piece.

Love these smooth easy to thread and love this hand dyed size 5 perle cotton from artfabric

each leaf was handled a different way, usually combining stitch methods. I do love a french knot

I started two art pieces dear to me but they are still being finished... for now...

Joy told me about this new to me challenge to follow prompts and make an index card art each day. Link is  https://daisyyellowart.com/vividlife/icad-2022-1  Here are my first four days...

I'm having fun with it so far, and it's not a bad way to start the day, cuppa coffee with a side of art supplies...

thank you to this little fellow who holds needles as I work

purchased long ago in Annapolis at our quilt show, made by the Hmong people experts with tiny mola stitching

I'll end with one of my little experiments... I haven't used these dot markers for years, but pulled out supplies and experimented one day while out on the back porch...

cool effect, just daubing color over color, additive the way I like to work rather than planned

it was all good til one leaked and squirted purple ink all over the place including our outdoor rug... luckily dh came out of his office just in time to take a hose to dilute the evidence.

art is messy

I Like Thursday # 299

Top 27 Favorite Gratitude Quotes - Susan Gabriel, Author of Southern Novels and More

welcome to this week's short list of likes....

Dog Shaming – Eugene Weekly

reading the same books as last week... listening to a terrific story of a woman botanist, yep, it's good

reading on ebook til the library takes it back, oy , 14th in series

not so much to watch on tv... master chef is starting again, and So You Think You Can Dance is on. Still watching this season of Murdoch Mysteries.

Thankful that we had 3 days of cool weather while it rained just a bit. I cooked as much as I could,

banana oat flour cake, whole wheat bread,  coconut white chocolate cookies

um.... did you know there were goodies right up there?
Milo got a new batch of pumpkin oat almond butter cookies as his got moldy when it was hotter

I came up with an absolutely delish pasta dish... basically I cooked the bag of shell pasta then drained, next sauteed mushrooms, onion and bell peppers and added in a bag of frozen mixed vege,

mixed all that together with a  small jar of spaghetti sauce, some fiesta grated cheese, a container of cottage cheese, spices (basil, garlic, oregano, parsley) and poured into a casserole dish. Topped with a little grated cheddar cheese and some parmesan covered and baked at 350 for an hour.

SO good... and enough so that we can freeze two servings for when we want a quick meal and it's too hot to bake.

thankful for zoom with friends, and phone calls. Thankful for wine delivery and groceries despite the costs... we can eat still.

I'm completely addicted now to the games on solitaire.org  including this week the strategy game of minesweeper. Yep, that minesweeper. And word scramble because as letters drop down I make great words and it flosses my bwains.

planted the wildflower seeds in patio pots this past weekend, and about to plant some beans saved from last years meager plants.

signed up for VIP pass for the upcoming drawing/painting course and made an order to eureka beads

Milo's Moments

Milo: I like dining al fresco and having my daddy hold my bowl at the right height. Mama and Daddy stay busy watching nature and talking while I can eat in peace

sometimes I take a rest from eating and sit on mama's knee

Heyyy my bowl is empty

then I lie down on the other side of the outside table and roll my ball to the pawrents, and they roll it back at me under the table! But when it gets stuck, I gotta figure out what to do

whew!
so anyway... it's summer and I got things to do...these feet were made for running!

now please go see what mama's friends found to like this week...

we  have a new I Like post by Angela this week,
