I Like Thursday #287

welcome to this week's list of likes and I like to sew! And in honor of Yellow being the color of the month to use as superscrappy, I played around with some scraps!

I made two improvisational pieces last week, this one called does anybody know what time it is, post is here with more pics

we enjoy Reisling and these were both quite good

speaking of kitchens,

Fine Dining

I love this half soup pot... perfect size for most recipes, this week I made some awesome 12 bean soup, I think the leek made all the difference but the half a sweet potato made it sweet. I use left over vege in the fridge...

by AllClad

I like to keep cleaned prepared vege ready for quicker meals,

like one breakfast of quesadilla's that were delish!

I tried a recipe to make zucchini appetizers by coating in breadcrumbs and baking this week, just like Olive Garden!  Lots of recipes online and pretty fast

we had them with our chicken marsala for dinner

I have the makings for baklava with pistachios but haven't yet been brave enough..

Watching on TV

Survivor is back! Yea!

The good doctor was great, we've been watching the new season of Agatha Raisin, whee! And Murdoch Murders is back, thank you Canada! American Idol was so good Sunday, such heartwarming stories and good voices and kind judges. Just finished this season of Queens of Mystery... so good.

reading

on audio, just finished this and it. was. AWESOME! touching, laugh out loud funny, and engaging characters. Now I want to read another by the author, er, listen to one. I recommend hearing this one

On ebook  not sure if I really like this one yet... so far, just okay

do you sew? This was awesome tutorial on how to stitch a sketch and make a pouch

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS_rUvbAX_0

I spoke to someone recently who is doing a lot of crochet... I found this cool bag on youtube, the instructions are clear but for beginners...

remember the game, "can you do this" well this photo online made me think of it from A Hensley

Milo's moments

last summer when we played outside now it's snowy!

It happened... grooming.... now it's been snowing a lot and I'm cold and have to wear a sweater mom made that hangs funny. I got back at Mama this week, by planting my keister in front of her and saying do something! She said, go get a ball! Search! I know those words, so I glanced around the room

Mama: yesssss you "man looked"

Milo: heh heh, then she said, IN YOUR TOYBOX! go see! I knew what she meant, but just looked at my toy box and back at her, with my cutest expression.

Mama: Oh. My. Dog.

Milo: finally she got up herself and bent down for the toy and I ran over, HA! Made you get up!

sewing saturday going round in circles

For this week's sewing round up...

"Will it go round in circles" 10.5" X 13"

the Project Quilting prompt was repetition, which I use as a design principle in all my quilts,I looked up repetition in artwork and found this page  https://magazine.artland.com/the-art-of-repetition-top-10-pattern-artists/ which has lots of photos. I had a couple ideas but returned to a love of circles.

The song inspiring my quilt,  is an oldie but goodie

I got out the fusible box of scraps

and cut lots of circles, some of which became circles and some became rings when cut down...

got out white on white fabric with circles

and began building two pieces at the same time, with different backgrounds

Meanwhile I got out paints and did this

letting colors blend and move across the paper...and then went back to fabric

The binding on the quilt is striped, shown on top and bottom, pulled to the back to make a facing on the sides.

I used a scrap of circle fabric from a dance skirt, to make borders, not much left but worked here

when I started on the second quilt, it was fun but too "active". Both Joy and DH said it was pretty "busy"...

so I changed it a bit, inspired by this song by Chicago

and it became...
"Does anybody know what time it is?" 9" X 12"

again repeating circles, and bars... circles behind the circles in embossed fabric again, a mix of free motion and walking foot quilting, 1/8th" binding finished by hand

both were made from scraps the way I love to work, improvisational design. I love the mix of sizes, some circles are formed by two fabrics, some solid and some rings,  and both pieces have movement.

three finished artworks exploring repetition

along with the painting from this week, I have really explored the theme!

quilters didn't invent improv ... this is one of my fave guitar players version of Norwegian woods

I Like Thursday # 286

Welcome to this week's list of likes

Not too much to speak of this week... so I'll start with

I like that the world is now supporting the Ukraine.

I was so impressed with this musician, his knowledge and love of what makes it work. His series is "what makes this song great" and I listened to this on Chicago, my first concert and one of my favorite bands from the  70's.I also heard him dissect a song from the 15th century with lutes.

song "make me smile..."

our band often played their music as we marched at halftime on  the football field !

reading and listening to same books as last week.

I like American Idol and it's back. Sanditon is returning on PBS as well as survivor on CBS

I liked that my favorite team won the Amazing Race! Woo hooo!  I needed that after the big brother debacle of "win at any cost" ugliness. Here they are in a funny video that kind of reminds me of me... I also nave FOMS (fear of missing sleep) ( we have hideously loud people living all around our house)

I sewed a lot this week, and un-sewed, on glamingo finally accepting how it needed to go together. I hope to share my project quilting project tomorrow or Saturday too.

Fine Dining

I tried a new recipe for banana oat cake and it's much better than the oat blondies. Since DH and DPoodle need to stop eating wheat, we can all appreciate this for dessert. It has a better consistency and taste to us than the blondies although Milo never complained, heh heh

I now love this youtube channel... an example of "you know me now meet my pets"

Milo's Moments

snow melted this week
well y'all, it's been a week, and I just don't have much to say.  Somehow my people let me get away without grooming last weekend but I'm waiting for the "bone" to drop knowing it's coming. We've taken more walks this week, and I'm leaving peemail all over so that's good. Mama returned to making me pumpkin cookies

and banana cake so that's good. Sometimes good enough is good enough, amIright?
