at which point my janome gem ("I was never meant to use metalic thread" said the machine) seized up and the flywheel refused to turn. DH and I took apart as much as we could, dug around, kicked it like a soda pop machine who refused to drop the can NOT REALLY) and some how, with the help of angels, got it running again a day later.

it wouldn't even try until I changed the needle in last resort, but then slogs along with cotton threads

I've been taking a lot of photos in anticipation of finding a class to teach me more about amending photos.
Where is that class? the one that caters to the non- tech person?
wow couldn't be easier to paint... could be done on fabric too...

Metallic thread is such a temptation, but oh, so temperamental. My own PQ 17-1 includes metallic thread. Finally, it went through like a dream. My trick(s). 1. I used a metallic needle with a big eye. I think it was size 90. 2. Put 6 lines of Sew Aid down the spool. Forget the instructions to use sparingly. 3. My Bernina has two tiny sponges atop the machine just before you start threading it. They are there to add Sew Aid. I add 2 - 3 drops. 4. Actually, it should be number 1, I had just done my regular maintenance clean out of the machine and oil, remove lint accumulation and stray thread.
So glad you persisted and got the machine back in order. It's a lovely interpretation of this week's PQ.

Metallic threads are a brute to sew with - either by machine or by hand. Glad you got your machine working again. I'm intrigued by your dragonfly blocks and will be watching to see what you do with them.
