I Like Thursday #441

welcome to this week's list of likes.  it's a hard time around here for likes so I have a few really fun videos this time. the art above is a metal sculpture made in Haiti. I've had it for about 40 years. I used to work at my friend's art gallery and he gifted it to me. I've moved it so many times and it's usually one of the first things to go on the wall as it holds my keys.

this quote really spoke to me

"If life is a never-ending loop of dirty dishes and laundry, then that means life is a never-ending loop of home-cooked meals and comfy, clean clothes." from https://www.zenstitching.ca/blog/

Reading on audio

I started another good one by Elin Hildebrand set on Nantucket. Her books keep my interest

 >>>I did enjoy the start of Survivor and Amazing Race on TV this week. Are you watching?

our prompt as a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?   it may be more than one thing as you got older how did it change? Did you bring any aspect of that into your career?

I imagined I would be a theater actress, singing and dancing. I sang and danced just like the movies I saw. I wasn't brave or confident enough to pursue it but did community theater as often as possible as a young woman. It took bravery to audition, even in the small pond of Tampa. I also performed as a wench in the rennaisance festival for years.

As a child I always enjoyed playing school too, and thought I might teach.
For a while I wanted to be a physician/surgeon and got so far as two years of biology major/pre med courses before I switched to social work. That was the career I spent years doing but I worked in schools for a while and had to teach classes to my drop out prevention kids.
Now that might have been more like theater actually as they were middle school kids who are the toughest. A daily dog and pony show to keep their attention!
One of them said she liked me so much since I wasn't like an adult.
huh? you know, she said, fun and you actually listen to us. Oh...

after marrying, and moving North, I began teaching the techniques I developed for quilt making, and lecturing to guilds so teaching adults fulfilled my being a teacher I suppose!

arting

Project quilting still needed doing so I have been trying to at least sew a bit.... Saturday post holds creativity..

The little house key holder is a treasure. Cute! I love the quote and copied it. If I make another little painting/quote booklet, it might need to be part of it. You've led such an interesting life. When you write that autobiography, I'll be buying a copy!

What a lovely metal sculpture! I love the color and am wondering what could be behind the blue window? 😉That sure is a thought-provoking quote! Hilderbrand is one author I enjoy reading as well.
Wow…how interesting about your wanting to be a theater actress! You must have enjoyed your times on the stage. Yes! Teaching is much like acting! What a sweet comment from your student! I hope your weekend is lovely!

Your quote about laundry and dishes is a good one! I loved the puppy video, too - so cute. I've been watching the Big Bear Bald Eagle nest cam - two babies have hatched! Elin Hilderbrand is one of my favorite writers - I'm so sad that she's retiring. I agree - working with kids takes a lot of acting skills!

That quote is true-life, for sure! Loved it! I'm a fan of cuckoo clocks and the metal sculpture reminded me of one. I can see why you love it -- colorful, cheerful, and a pleasant reminder of time past. Keep thinking positive!

Love that quotation about dirty dishes and laundry! What a great perspective!

The trouble with home-cooked meals and laundry is I'm the one cooking and doing the laundry. Still, for now, it's better than contemplating bathing in a bucket and cooking for one on a camping stove.

Sweet Kite blocks in the last post, LeeAnna. Love the quote you have at the start of your post. You always have so many interesting things in these posts...thank you for compiling them. Always wonderful to see the creativity you bring to everything you do.

Sorry I'm late today but had to go out earlier. The key holder is so sweet, love it. I understand the quote and I do iron some things but only the most necessary, life is too short to be stood constantly ironing stuff. Take care and have a good weekend. Hugs Angela xxx

Elin Hilderbrand is one of my favourites too. I don't think I've read Swan Song so will have to see if the library has a copy.
I really don't remember what I wanted to be when I was a kid but I imagine it involved some form of teaching because I do remember playing school with my dolls. I think maybe I wanted to be a vet at some point because we always had a lot of farm animals.

That key holder is a fun one! I wanted to teach, and have always wound up teaching - whether it was explicitly a teaching job or morphed into one. I now think I would have done science, if I wasn't so afraid of blood when I was a crazy teenager!

I always wanted to be a teacher and played school all the time as a kid. I fulfilled that dream and taught for 27 years, though teaching changed a lot throughout that time. Thank you for linking up and have a great week ahead.
