the row to be added this week was flying geese.
I've done two round robins and can't say they were that much fun but this one gives us the leeway to work on our own designs. I started with the Lori Holt sewing machine pattern, my stash of cute sewing fabrics, and did the piano key border (bottom), the plus signs (top) a pin cushion block, and now my geese in cute fabrics!

I knew I was going to use cutie fabrics for geese but what around them?? I found this white with black dot, just right, in my stash...
Whatchadoin Mama? It's a nice day you should go out and play (with me)
who needs a pin cushion when there are scraps right here?
I stick a pin thru the joining corners of each unit, to the hilt, on both ends. Then put tiny clips along the sides to keep it in line to sew!
this is one setting, before I stitched the bottom geese together
I decided to wait to sew it down til I see the next row...

accepting and respecting your unique characteristics.
It's easy to see and point out what I think of as imperfections. It's the opposite of the bragging confused for confidence these days. I like what she says about looking at yourself differently, gently, with acceptance
when you have time... this was so very valuable to me...
they left me with the phrase, if you want to be more spiritual, what can I do to serve someone else today Welcome to the tropics...
The problem is not lack of ideas as I wanted to interpret about 6... One morning as I had my first cup of coffee I went to youtube to see what meditative drawing was about. As I listened to Cher talk of mindful drawing, I pulled out some scrap paper and my new pen set and started doodling. Layers of colors in lines produced this...
so I thought, as one does, what if I used threads like I did pens? and this happened...
paper on left, finished quilt on right
I started by tracing the "bones" of my sketch onto tear easy stabalizer, layering backing, peltex, top fabric and tear easy, then thread painting the bones before pulling off the stabalizer
then chose about 30 colors of rayon and metallic threads to start fleshing it in
Oh what fun!
the answer was like my inks layer the colors giving them depth
I'm not sold on one coconut but didn't want three...
I looked back at the drawing while quilting until I said, done! And did a thin binding top and bottom, and facing on the sides, the final design decision in a 6" X 10" piece of sewn art
look at all that thread on the back!!
It's nice when it works, no?
I also pulled out some yellow scrap projects for the RSC color this month...
heh heh... it's good to have a flamingo stash, when you need a yellow piece for this sweater. I'd like a sweater like that
these blocks have been on the wall for months, so I sewed (made it work) many together, matching them to the endless diamond from Deb, to start my larger quilt with several star log color combos to come.
Haven't done my round robin blocks yet... not very energetic but Joy enthused me to sew again after our zoom this week.
that's about it folks!

Milo: the sock fairy is come to my house. Here's what happened...
another senseless grooming injury! Mama want to own up to this?
Mama: welllllll somehow, even though I was trying to be careful when shaving a certain poodle's toes which had matted hair between them (#troll) I nicked the skin a bit. I put medicine on it, and a bandage and to keep that on, one of my socks pulled up to the elbow of said innocent poodle.
Milo: AHA! obvious neglect! Grooming is a bad idea, as I tole you before, and it's dangerous!
Mama: well if you didn't yank and pull your feet out of my hands while I'm holding the torture shaver it wouldn't have happened too...
Milo: the truth is Mama was very sorry and used that baby talk I loves and singed to me her guilt and petted me extra. I like all of that stuff... especially the high pitched baby talk. And I did pull my feet out of her hands because I think grooming is torture and unnecessary and a waste of my time.
Mama: so at night we put a sock on your incredibly injured foot but we wake up to find the sock in the bed. How do you think that happened?
Milo: The sock fairy took it off. It was too heavy for her to fly off with though, and she forgot to leave me a treat too. I'm taking a nap, and making myself so small in case that shaver comes back
These wonderful people are sharing their likes for the week too, and if you write an I Like post be sure to let me know in comments!

To balance that awareness I searched youtube today for mindful drawing and found this person
this is lesson two but lesson one taught me to not just drag a pen across paper, but to purposefully know where my lines start and finish. She taught me to hold my fineliner pens upright to draw unlike cursive writing holds. The tiny nibs are square and you can damage them by pressing them at an angle, as well as get less ink flow. She taught me another lesson sideways. Her intro was long and self marketing. I get it, these lessons are free and she wrote books...yet when I finally make it to being open to learning, it would be better for me to hear the sales push at the end.
That said, I liked what she said in the middle of the lesson (above)... when drawing straight lines, be aware of not only your starts and stops, but intersections. Stop at an existing line, and restart if you want on the other side. She said this makes one more aware in life of boundaries between people.
doodled word
so, I will consider her words on drawing, and being mindful instead of rushing through life today. Even in the mundane practice of survival, being aware of boundaries is a good thing.
My friend Diann shared a lemon blueberry recipe (dessertfortwo). She made 4 muffins but it's my opinion that if you don't have left overs (planned overs?) you've wasted your time so I multiplied it by three to make 12 delicious dessert muffins for the week.

I also loved finding this woman's videos... gentle respectful way of living that is like a piece of art of itself. I've now seen about 15 of her videos and it is calming.
FairyCottage videos... soft, gentle, full of art making, and tea... here's one to start you off

I loved the modern parable here: https://meditationsinmotion.wordpress.com/
