I was going to show you lots of choices for the border, but this is done now. It's layered with backing and batting and ready to quilt.
I don't know if you see it but it's a tree, with grass and sky.The blue will be binding.
I sew from the joy in my heart.
Whether it's abstract, or whimsical, realistic, or a bed quilt. It's the same with my paintings, drawings, and all hand made items. I have not had joy lately, and haven't been able to sew.
I trust in the process, and the drive to create. I know it will return. When it does, I will quilt this lovely piece.
Just for interest, I went through about 20 border possibilities before returning to this one. I knew I wanted to do the squares but my husband said it distracted from the center.
I ended up ripping out the placement along the borders, mixing in different colors and then I quite liked it.
Sometimes you have to let go of a choice and look at a problem with new vision.

I think the border enhances the center. You can get back to it when you're ready. Leave it up somewhere you can see it and one day you will be inspired to finish it.

How ironic, when I first glanced at it, it reminded me of a pixilated landscape! The shades of blue are especially lovely. Frankly, I love it and know there's a bit of Cole's spirit in each little square. 🐩

You are right to wait whenever you want to. It shows its coming from your heart. I looked at it for awhile and enlarged it. Not until then did I notice the border of soft blended greens within the thin blue one. It does its framing job so unobtrusively.. But was sweet and just right when I found it, an almost hidden treasure. Like our hearts.

Gorgeous! I didn't see the tree until you mentioned it, which makes it even better. I was drawn to the light to dark...and love it. You will get your joy back. Putting yourself on the back burner (so to speak) is okay. You'll know when it's time to turn up the heat and get your mojo cooking again!

An encouraging post and a beautiful quilt. I'm so sorry Cole passed away. It's so hard to recenter our lives when some of the ones we love are no longer with us personally. I'm so glad you're finding a new normal and hope to start on that path soon, too.
