I decided on a border for my little Summer quilt. All squares finish at 1.5 inches.
I was going to show you lots of choices for the border, but this is done now. It's layered with backing and batting and ready to quilt.
I don't know if you see it but it's a tree, with grass and sky.The blue will be binding.
I finished it before Cole left but have not sewn on it since.
I sew from the joy in my heart.
Whether it's abstract, or whimsical, realistic, or a bed quilt. It's the same with my paintings, drawings, and all hand made items. I have not had joy lately, and haven't been able to sew.
I trust in the process, and the drive to create. I know it will return. When it does, I will quilt this lovely piece.
Just for interest, I went through about 20 border possibilities before returning to this one. I knew I wanted to do the squares but my husband said it distracted from the center.
I ended up ripping out the placement along the borders, mixing in different colors and then I quite liked it.
Sometimes you have to let go of a choice and look at a problem with new vision.
I see the tree, but not till you pointed it out. I agree that sometimes you have to let go of a choice -- doing that right now with my current project.
ReplyDeleteWise words from a wise woman!
ReplyDeleteThanks LeeAnna!
and it looks great!
ReplyDeleteand it looks great!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. I see the tree! I think blue binding will look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI understand that when the creativity isn't there, you can't force it. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.
I think the border enhances the center. You can get back to it when you're ready. Leave it up somewhere you can see it and one day you will be inspired to finish it.

ReplyDeleteHow ironic, when I first glanced at it, it reminded me of a pixilated landscape! The shades of blue are especially lovely. Frankly, I love it and know there's a bit of Cole's spirit in each little square. 🐩
ReplyDeleteGreat assortment of fabrics and colors!
ReplyDeleteThe skinny blue border is just right. You are in my thoughts, Lee Anna.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Preeti.
It's very summery and pretty. You are smart not yo rush your creativity. It's in you so it will come back when it's time and only you will know when.
ReplyDeleteLove that border a lo. remember "Keep a green bough in your heart, and the singing bird will come"--hang in there kiddo have a peaceful weekend hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteYou are right to wait whenever you want to. It shows its coming from your heart. I looked at it for awhile and enlarged it. Not until then did I notice the border of soft blended greens within the thin blue one. It does its framing job so unobtrusively.. But was sweet and just right when I found it, an almost hidden treasure. Like our hearts.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I did see the green border. I love the pop with the bright blue. Lovely job.
ReplyDeleteI see the tree, and in the border I can see the sky above and the grass below. It's like a walk in the park.
ReplyDeleteTake the time you need each day. The joy is still there - it's just resting right now.
You will know when you're ready. It is very pretty and the squares work just right in the border.
ReplyDelete"Summer breeze makes me feel fine,
ReplyDeleteblowin through the jasmine in my mind.".? seals and croft. 197?
anyone out there remember them and the album and this sweet song??? well that is where this sweet piece took me. be well, LA!
This is a wonderful artist summer quilt!! Love your creativity!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful and the border is really perfect. I am sure you will get back to feel the joy soon... unfortunately sometimes we have to feel the sadness to really feel the joy again! Big big hugs!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I didn't see the tree until you mentioned it, which makes it even better. I was drawn to the light to dark...and love it. You will get your joy back. Putting yourself on the back burner (so to speak) is okay. You'll know when it's time to turn up the heat and get your mojo cooking again!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this, LeeAnna! I love the play of the light and dark especially. Reminds me that there is always sunlight somewhere, even in the midst of our worst hurting. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteYes, you certainly do need to let go sometimes. Hope the mojo comes back and gives you much pleasure.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done. The colors make me think of a water color painting.
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of a painting as well! Love it!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful and I see the tree! You'll get it back little by little. Cole was so precious to you!
ReplyDeleteEXCELLENT post - you are so right on so many levels!!
ReplyDeleteAn encouraging post and a beautiful quilt. I'm so sorry Cole passed away. It's so hard to recenter our lives when some of the ones we love are no longer with us personally. I'm so glad you're finding a new normal and hope to start on that path soon, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking with AHIQ. I love the color choices of your quilt - high summer, not autumn or winter. We need all the happiness we can find now.
