welcome to Sewing Saturdays.... I guess I divide my creative time between sewing, painting and writing with a bit of beading thrown in for measure. The above hexie star represents the hand work I do in the car or watching tv.
The Rainbow scrap challenge color of the month is brown/black, so here's some chandelier blocks in both. For black I used my black with multi colors scraps.
See the gray? it's my design wall, back in use since I got the lattice blocks all sewn together into three big sections, and off the wall!
More about that later.

It's really fun to see the black with multi color prints, so since I only made 9 I may make a few more using those scraps. they'll blend in well. No idea how I'll set these.
after I sewed the chandelier blocks, I put up the start to my halloween quilt. I'm not sure if I'll keep those backgrounds or how large they will be either. So many decisions!
here they are with some ideas around them. So busy! I might have to seriously tone this down.

Don't know how I'll decide how large to cut the backgrounds, but I must because I want to do the fun embroidery around the appliques. Oh in my halloween stash was also two bags of white buttons, ghosts and skulls! Gotta put those in somewhere.
I'm torn about using owls for a fall fabric piece, or Halloween... I like it all.

I've drawn and painted daily, which really has been a great way to learn.
sometimes I learn from a video, such as the feather with it's thousand little brush strokes
sometimes from prompt, like InkTober encouraging sketch with pen. Permanent, momentary.

I continue to paint with the big brush, and big bold color. No plan, just color onto paper, then look at it and sketch over it with staedtler fineliners and pigma pens.
Intuitive

seeing what shows up.
I sit the day's painting on my desk and notice it as a whole, as I walk by thru the day.
Sometimes I'm amazed at how much I like them, and I'm pretty self critical.Many art forms interest me, but painting is providing an outlet I didn't anticipate.

Also I now watch the show Too cute on discovery family, while I have lunch. I've been quite depressed, and watching baby animals is like balm to my soul.
One day a teacup pig took up with the pet rabbit, the two got into the kitchen and that little pig tippy toes behind the bunny and snuggling up to it when it stops, is beyond cute. It's on the video.
I liked the craft show we visited last weekend, and took this pic of moose for my friend Angie.

Milo's moments
Hi Y'all... I like things done my way. when I walk I want to take my ring toy. when I eat I want the kibble heated up and my pawrents to hold the bowl. when I rest I want the chair or my kennel available, and to be lifted up into the big bed for night. I like to walk at the same time each day.
In payment for all that understanding, I love to greet Mama everytime I come in from a walk, I wag and rush up to her. I keep an eye on things around here and send out the bark alarm when someone drops a box at the front door.
Why yesterday, I barked the place down but, what? no mama came to see. I had to go all the way up the stairs to the back studio, and tell her, "Hey! What's up? didn't you hear me bark? There's someone at the door!!!"
Mama: "sorry buddy, thanks for telling me"
Milo; " well, then come down and LOOK!"
Mama: " oh! Sorry, coming!"
and we all came down and out the front door, when I gave the whole driveway a good look, and finding no one there knew it was because I scared them off! Job done!
The next day, I spied the perfect peeps for my pawrents, coming down the sidewalk. I quickly planted my butt in place to wait for them. I had to withstand Mama's pulling on my harness and begging me to come on. she has no idea what's good for her, and she needed to meet these people! When they got up to me, I totally snuggled the lady, who said "thanks! I needed a poodle hug today" and I knew she did! then I petted the man for a minute but went back to the woman and gave her a good leaning on, while she and mama talky-talked. Mama thanked me after as they will make a great couple to hang out with if we can find them again. Mama had no phone with her, and I can't write phone numbers so that's on them!

Cleaned cherry pits from summer snacking
Cherry pits make the best cold packs for injuries... so I found a cute scrap at least 20 years old because I remember who gave it to me... a friend made a shirt for her nurse brother !
sew it into a pocket, put in the pits, sew all around the edge.
It's not enormous but big enough to put on a headache or small injury. It will live in the freezer.
while folding clothes this week I noticed this hand towel was gnarly, so I cut it in half
hemmed the raw edge, folded the sides in and stitched across them, turned it right sides out and made two kitchen scrubbies
I like this better than a flat washrag as you can push against the seam with your hand inside.
Do other people just throw things away? This waffle weave is great as a wash rag, and the embroidery says living the lime life with a margarita! heh heh.
I got the lattice under control by sewing long sections together, now just need to sew those long strips to each other and find a long arm quilter.
The Halloween owls are moving along...
The challenge was to find the right prints out of my stash. I get sinus infections from fusible, so I used it sparingly. I cut the centers out of the big owl fusible, so I have a ring around the edge, and now the little owls are all pressed and can be auditioned onto backgrounds.
I could do a four patch and call it a holiday, or add in some old orphan
blocks done with Halloween fabrics.
Or arrange them up and down to look
wonky. I got precious about my cool prints, and needed just the right bits to show the owl shape anyway. One day I need to make a plain block quilt to showcase the prints I've collected over the years.
Welcome to Paint party Friday...
I've been painting or drawing or both each day, and it makes me feel great! The above picture is from my sketch book, the floral design was to try the big brush with pale fall colors, then using black and white gel pens.
It's InkTober where you sketch in pen.... this is one day's sketchbook page. I think she looks like Isabella Rossalini...These photos look small to me... you could click on them to make them larger and clearer.

I was inspired to make two small cards, tearing canson paper in fourths and leaving a beveled edge.

I painted a wild scene last week, and then painted another one that felt very tropical.
Amazing to me, as I just painted blobs, and slashes. From that grew this lovely lush painting. I don't think I will do the black lines or white lines this time, I like it the way it is.

I am so enjoying the process of seeing color on paper. For years I've worked with fabric, creating color line and balance with different print fabrics, but this is so different, and yet the same creative excitement about color comes through. Whether painting, sewing, writing, or dancing I am managing to focus my energy toward creative pursuits at some point each day instead of anxiety.
