I ike Thursday # 426

I won't mislead you, I have very little gratitude in my heart, it's been replaced by despondency for my country. I will try to share some of the week with you, I need companionship, I feel frightened all the time.

We got two snow alerts that came to nothing. The third was for 3" and the surprise was it lasted 4 days leaving totals here near the 20" mark, or with a bit of melt, half a standard poodle high.

DH shoveled a path for the poor boy who is not able to step on his left back leg. Then two hours later there is 3-4" in the path. Out he went to shovel that off. Why couldn't the weather people warn us this would be a 4 day event with feet of snow?

I couldn't focus, so I turned to medicinal sewing... two pre cut packs (bought on sale.) For the non sewing people here, that means a designer's line of fabric is cut into 5" squares with about 42 in the pack. I had two of this line and just started arranging them on the design wall

I wanted to just sew squares into groups then rows then a top. I have now finished the top with a black multi colored border fabric and am layering that with backing fabric and cotton batting and plan to quilt it simply. It's my mourning quilt and I don't like it much. I will finish it and use it to huddle under. It's about 44" X 56" now. It reminds me in looks of my granny's utility quilts so I wrote a story about my connection to her, read it here

I watch a tv show called crime scene kitchen. Couples compete to see who comes closest to figuring out the clues to the item baked, then bake their own. I looked at our counter as we finished up baking this week... know what we made? clue that's cinnamon sugar in the measuring cup, a buttered loaf pan, bowl of cream, rolling pin and mat coated in flour.
(cinnamon bread loaf)

I tried to make tortillas with sweet potatoes and lentil flour... big fail so I actually threw them away
I never throw away food if I can help it but they were bitter. I can't take bitter at the moment.

what is your favorite Fall movie? I need diversions....
I love "when Harry met Sally" and there is a lot of Fall footage in it

Milo is very very poorly.
We gave him the rimadyl (antiinflammatory) for 2 1/2 days and he stopped drinking. Nothing could persuade him to drink, I tried pouring teaspoons of water in his mouth and he turned his head. He ate very little.
We stopped the pills but not before he developed a urinary tract infection, so he's on antibiotics. He wont eat anything even cookies.
The vet ordered nausea pills and heavy pain meds today.  He began drinking again which means he pours out urine wherever he lies, and goes out to pee 10 drops 10 times about every 2 hours.
I'm worn out of washing our bedding despite diapers, and it's been three days on antibiotics.
our traveling vet said we have to go to some brick and morter vet office for sonograms and diagnosis.

Our family unit is the three of us, I despair of losing Milo.

just to keep it Thursday, I like my poodle son, I love him.

Lovely

this artist sings so beautifully, and I have sung this song countless times in my life... she shares my name too altho spelled differently. It made me cry for the times I believed in my country as so secure.

made it and it was good

Make art with Christmas cookies?

I will not go to these extremes but it was VERY fun to watch and I see using some techniques in a more simple way.

just sayin'

interesting that republicans have argued for the last 5 or so years that the voting system was broken... til suddenly when they "won" they immediately shut up about it. He said he didn't need votes to win. 15 million votes have disappeared, how would a Harris voter know if their vote was counted or made to disappear like he promised when he said he had people in place to remove votes. Oh no, poor Milo! I hope taking him in to the vet's office results in some answers and that he'll feel better soon. Hugs to you and your sweet dog.

I love Crime Scene Kitchen! I've seen every show and am really enjoying season 3 so far on TV. I started watching that exquisite cookie decorating video but I am going to save it until I want to get in the mood for Christmas -- it will be perfect for that!

I am praying for Milo and for you. Your post made me sad and I could relate to all your thoughts. I am hoping by next week your son, Milo, will be so much better.

Just realized that millions and millions of us feel exactly the same. We will support each other and we will hold decency and we will live to fight another day. God bless you and Milo. Please protect your heart and mind. Aloha

You guys got hammered with the snow! There was hardly anything up here in the northern part of the state. I'm so sorry Milo is hurt like this. Sending good vibes for a solution to the problem. Hugs!

I hope you can find an answer to what's wrong with MIlo and that he responds to the needed treatment. Wish I could make your heartache go away, but all I can do is hunker down, avoid the news and wait it out, but at my age, four years is a long time.

Wowza, that's a lot of snow! Those cookies were amazing. My cookie decorating days were never that fancy (plus we used buttercream, not royal icing). Poor Milo - poor you! That is an awful lot of stress and sorrow to deal with all at once. Hugs!

Thanks for putting your thoughts and artistic talent on paper/computer screen. It’s good to know lots of us share your heartache! I. I’m so sorry Milo is unwell. Hopefully the vet in a building can shed some light on a diagnosis. I loved reading the story about your Granny. And medicinal sewing is a real thing. It’s helped me in the past and it’s helping now too! Hugs to you and Milo and the Daddy Pawrent!

I'm so sorry that Milo isn't feeling well. Hopefully the vet can get him on track again soon. I've always felt my sewing was therapeutic. Can't think of specific fall movies, but I'm focusing my screen time on only "happy" movies and TV right now. I avoid the news for the most part because like you I find it demoralizing.

Sorry to hear about Milo and that your snow was a 4 day thing. I'm not a fan of winter, so am already counting down til Spring. The 3 things I like about winter...the only 3, are our daughter coming home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we leave for the remainder of winter right after New Years. Demoralizing is one of the many words to describe my feelings. I'm scared for the changes he plans to make, and the people he's picked so far for his cabinet....most of whom are not qualified, Kennedy Jr over Health....makes me sick. I know most of the world shares our fears. His wanting to make appointments without hearings tells you how bad it's going to be. I've tried to keep busy so I don't focus on it; but that's been hard to do. I keep staring at my afghan and haven't picked it up to work on it, Maybe I'll force myself to later today. ((HUGS)) hang in there, that's all we can do. Love your colorful quilt.

Who eats Christmas cookies slowly enough to appreciate all that work?🤔 very sad to read the Milo is struggling with health issues. It really hurts as their human that we can't always easily make these things go away for our furry companions.

Calvin and I are sending all of our love and best healing vibes Milo's way. Pets are family. Thank you for linking up.....also, I despise the results of the election and the cabinet picks are horrible.

Crime Scene kitchen sounds interesting! I have no clue what you made but it sounds yummy! Poor Milo and poor you guys. I know how hard this is...and our pups can be needy and we love them so much. I am sorry it is just Sunday and I am reading this. Trying to get things done for a few deadlines, and away most of this coming week and then our son is here for thanksgiving...the 3 of us. Small but lovely. Thinking of you!

LeeAnna - hoping that Milo is on the mend! I had never heard of Lianne La Havas - what a wonderful voice and a terrific message. We just went to a Bruce Springsteen concert in Calgary, and it felt like a three-hour prayer for our country. And I love the Christmas cookie art - maybe I can convince my family to do this at Christmas time! Thanks for hosting I Like Thursday!
