The overlap of design. It would benefit from being done larger I think, but it evolved from my daily mark making exercise.
Art, it does evolve if you're okay with that. I'm not a planner. I painted blobs of color and then began doodling with pen, then dotting. I love the dots cascading.
Another piece from blobs:
color moving around the page...then I was inspired by a Thursday "I Like" poster Diann who put this quote on her post:
We are a product of not only our innate creativity but all we see, hear, learn. It is all inspirational, but what do we do with it? On the above work, I took the freedom of creationceecee, and my calligraphy interest from my 20's, my supplies at hand and my need to have this quote interpreted.
My supplies led this to be done:
I wondered how my KOI metallics would look mixed with green. They look mahvalous! Not in this photo unfortunately as I couldn't capture the sheen but in person! It's free and unstructured, unplanned. I also used tombow with water put on them immediately. They cling to drawing paper, but do move more on cold pressed watercolor paper.
More blobs of color made this one morning
Not from random color ... but an attempt to capture the image from http://lavenderdreamstoo.blogspot.com/
Not so happy with the hard lines left by markers here. They wouldn't dilute or soften. It was challenging to go from image on the blog to my painting. I think I like the curved petal, and the leaves best.
I worked in the studio this week, making 5 small backgrounds of fabric to paint on. Now I'm stuck.
Which paint, or ink to use. They have different qualities and opacity. What content? Representational or abstract? Color?
I have put color on quilts with ink, markers and brushes, with acrylics, with oil pastels, with other fabrics.
they are about 20 X 18 inches each |
I'm not a planner.
I would like to explore hard edge vs disappearing lines. Intersection of color. So scraping some paint in a rectangle, then overlapping with an incomplete circle, color grading out to nothing.
I really related to this quote, as a working artist:
Inspirational quote by writer Hillary Mantel:
She said: “The most frequent question writers are asked is some variant on, ‘Do you write every day, or do you just wait for inspiration to strike?’ I want to snarl, ‘Of course I write every day, what do you think I am, some kind of hobbyist?’ But I understand the question is really about the central mystery — what is inspiration? Eternal vigilance, in my opinion. Being on the watch for your material, day or night, asleep or awake.”

Lots of fun color play!! And I'm glad to know that my sewing room mess is really just lots of ideas laying around. LOL
Gorgeous paintings. I love lightness of colours and designs. The sayings are perfect!
Happy PPF 😃
I love looking at your artwork. The blue bird is my favorite. Looking forward to seeing what evolves on your fabric backgrounds. Eternal vigilance sounds exciting ...but also rather exhausting. Must be why I am not an artist. I just play with fabric ... when I feel like it ... and when an idea or inspiration will not leave me alone ... :-) Pat
You've inspired me with your white on white little backgrounds--
looking forward to seeing what they become..
I've been wanting to make a low volume piece--and making a small one first may be just the ticket...I love your art works--I think watercolors are so freeing...Hope your weekend is wonderful hugs, Julierose

Nice colour sketches
Much🎨❤🎨love
These are wonderful! I especially loved that first drawing. Just beautiful.
LA - a little jealous of your creativity in this post … a few too many "scheduled" activities are getting in the way of just "being". We have some visitors arriving tomorrow, and then a backcountry camping trip. I am thinking I should bring a sketch pad even if it adds to the weight I will be carrying!
