Voila!
the color is RED at the RSC this month, and my red leaves are done!
Isn't this a joyful setting??? I would not have discovered this but for the challenge to use red scraps, so I thank you Angela!
I love to work with components. I make a lot of something.... shapes, or blocks like hexies, then arrange them. I pulled the interesting scraps from my red bin, (click on the image to see details) thread baste them to paper shapes, then PLAY!

I bought some paper shapes, now just cut out my own from cardstock so I have plenty of components.
My initial thought was to do a tree of all colors but now I am open to any and all settings. I LOVE the one above. Then again, tulips are nice too...
and just seeing Red shapes on the turquoise batik was stimulating as I moved them around and around...
The first month was purple, then turquoise and now red so I've got lots of leaves as building blocks now.
My goal this year is to play more with color. Not fuss over an intricate block, but to explore relationships between color and line.
See what others are making with their scraps at http://superscrappy
Put together they look like flowers / so pretty :)
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful shades of red. I really like the first set. mary in Az
ReplyDeleteTotally excellent goal - plan less and play more!! (I'm doing that this year, too)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun journey with colour this year - those colours really pop!
ReplyDeleteGo with the flow! Maybe, once you have lots of the shape in myriad colors, you can arrange them to be flowers and trees in a jungle of riotous color!! You'll come up with something fun, I know.
ReplyDeleteTulip time! Irish green! What a colorful season!
ReplyDeleteLove the combinations!
Fun! I like the tulips. Wish some were up here!
ReplyDeleteHi Lee Anna, these leaves look like beautiful petals for me. Play and have fun. Happy Quilting Day!
ReplyDeleteSoooo beautiful! Love the contrast between the red leaves and blueish background! And just in time for spring's official launch next week. 🌷
ReplyDeleteThose little leaves/petals are so versatile and can be used in so many ways. You have such beautiful red scraps.
ReplyDeleteFun with red!
ReplyDeletei see red boats upon a sea of aqua blue! i love color too...All of them.
ReplyDeleteI love the red! I can easily picture tulips with those.
ReplyDeleteThat last one looks like surfboards...It's getting close to beach time!
ReplyDeleteYes! I see that surfboard shape also!
DeleteIt IS amazing how the imagination can run wild with such a simple shape. You will have so much fun deciding how to use these.
ReplyDeleteThose are wonderful! What fun to play with. I have a whole bunch of orange peels made up, and have been looking for ways to use them. Maybe I should just start arranging them in different ways and see what happens!
ReplyDeleteI really like the Leaf Flower in the top photo!! That could make for an interesting quilt. Have FUN playing with all the pretty colors (and interesting shapes!!)
ReplyDeleteYour plays are bringing out some interesting settings. Love the first one a lot. Lovely fabric too. Enjoy the exploration. ;^)
ReplyDeleteI'm so drawn to red and the contrast of blue/green/purple fabric behind really pops! My favorite configuration is the top one, but the tulips are a close second!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes! Flowers from orange peels (or leaves or whatever). I love them and since the deer eat all my tips, this is one way to savor them all year long.

LeeAnna, I also love the red pop of color on the turquoise. Which is a total surprise to me. What a fun experiment.
ReplyDeleteYour turquoise is the perfect background for these shades of red. You'll choose the right setting. They both look good to me.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty reds! Enjoy your hand stitching today!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet some of them want to be leaves and some want to be petals. You'll need to make more to find out! 8)
ReplyDeleteI love the red on the turquoise. Have fun playing around with the shapes.
ReplyDeleteSerendipity! It happened when you put the red leaves on the turqouise. Love that when it happens, and of course you can't predict it, you just grab it and enjoy it while its there. Wishing you lots more.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to play with color and shape. Enjoy your red leaves/petals!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to play. The colour combination is so striking. If you're asking for opinions, my vote would be the top one. I look forward to seeing where you end up with this.
ReplyDeleteRed tulips...wonderful shapes and background too!
ReplyDeleteRed with turquoise, who would have thought it would look so amazing! It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty "garden".
ReplyDeleteFlower petals for one project, leaves for another -- you may even come up with a non-plant use for the shape. Colorful versatility!
ReplyDeleteWell IMHO you are nailing your goal LeeAnna. This is fabulous idea and so many possibilities. I see lotus flowers--maybe because of one of my all-time favourite pieces I played on the piano, Lotusland by Cyril Scott (you must listen, think you'd love it too) and because of being in awe actually seeing them (lilypad flowers, but hey, lotus to this Canuck) growing in our condo pond in FL.
ReplyDeletei love those red leaves ... i would totally use them on a quilt
ReplyDeleteI love how you think - deeply and freely. I never fail to learn from you! Thank you for sharing your gift with us!
ReplyDeleteTough choice between flowers and leaves - I like them both! Guess you'll have to see what the majority thinks, or disregard them altogether and go with what you want! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh, gee, I do love these!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love these. Great tips about choosing scraps. I am participating in the RSC2017 challenge. My block is the bear paw with batiks. Your blog has been very inspirational as I develop mine. For no other reason, it is a great personal journal of my quilting for the year. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful and rich pieces! I cannot wait to see how you put them all together!!
