These patterns are from paper panache, and very intricate. I could applique one in minutes, but each block paper pieced takes over an hour.
That includes ripping out incorrect angles tho...
Want to come backstage for the audition process??? Well, follow me...
The finalists for the yellow guitar and the winners are...
The finalists for the red guitar are:
Note the pattern pieces cut apart.
I took the original pattern, cut the sections apart carefully, darkened their outside edges with pen, placed them apart on a sheet of paper, and used that to copy the pattern.
The designer didn't allow for seam allowances, and I make more mistakes if I don't have seam allowances marked, so I do that part myself.
The red was so brilliant before piecing but with all the little angles, mostly dark red shows. Still, I would love a red guitar, wouldn't you? The photos are darker than they are in life.

(The paper is still on them, so they look wonky on a design wall)
I want to do a black one too. I have some black scraps with really glittery silver on them...
One sees so few banner quilts going sideways like this, but there are are places where this would fit well. Hopefully we'll find a house with room for a studio, and a music room.
And then Jake can come by and play for us...
this video is awesome! This is a great video and if it doesn't play on your device use this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw6YL_l2YxA
As to the inspiration for these blocks...ta da! My husband Drew....
That's the youtube link in case you want to see him learning a Christmas song and can't view it here.
Well, the stores have had Christmas merchandise out for a month already!
OMG...don't get me started on the merchandise in the stores. Luckily I'm not a shopper...so I don't see it...much! Love your guitars....you know I don't do tiny...but sure do appreciate those of you who can.
ReplyDeleteI love your guitars! (I do not love autocorrect.)
ReplyDeletethis is so Fabulous! I am not a fan of paper piecing or foundation piecing..never get them right.
ReplyDeleteLOVE all of your colorful guitars lined up in a row!! Good luck with your final design.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that?! Love it. Very adorable. ღ
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you've gotten back to your guitars - they are so amazing! They are fun in all of the colors! I zoomed in to see the background of the red one, and I have some of that in my stash! Almost gone now because I've used it in lots of projects.
ReplyDeleteLOVE these! Yes, line then up.
ReplyDeleteI have loved your pieced guitars and am so happy to see you back at them. I plan to do a guitar quilt for Bruce in 2017, but will definitely appliqué them. Glad to see you back in the swing of things!
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful collection of guitars. My FIL just asked when I would decorate for Christmas... seems he got some snow globes for the kids. I told him the day after thanksgiving... but my kids tend to start pulling things out Thanksgiving night... so the elf on the shelf has some christmas things to see when he arrives that Friday.
ReplyDeleteThey look good in a row, like they are hanging up ready to be played. I like the royal blue and turquoise best. Depends on the lighting also. Don't know how you managed such a difficult piecing, congrats.
ReplyDelete"i look at the floor and i see it needs sweeping......"
ReplyDeleteI love all the pp guitars especially the red one and enjoyed Drews' tiny desk christmas concert insert!!
OMG, Jake is an amazing young music man, i love his range of music and especially when he plays JS Bach!!
Anyone who can paper piece a little thing like that deserves a medal!! Oh those are cute!
ReplyDeleteThese guitar blocks look amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing with a lot of the paper pieced patterns. I want to tell you I LOVE those guitars.. you do the most interesting and wonderful blocks!
ReplyDeleteI love the guitars arranged in a row like this. I can imagine it on a studio wall.
ReplyDeleteWent to a "tour of trees" on Friday afternoon with 2 friends. Very fun to see the Christmas decor, but seemed way too early considering the unusual 75 degree weather we are having. About 30 degrees above normal.
Lovely guitars, Lee Ann. Fun links to the music, too - both Jake and Drew.
ReplyDeleteYou, my friend, have the patience of a saint! Those guitar blocks are great! I really like them all, and I can't say any one of them is my favorite color...I do feel drawn to the yellow though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the videos...both were quite enjoyable!
Amazing blocks - the finished project will make you smile and start humming every time you look at it!
ReplyDeleteLove your fun guitars! And how peaceful to listen to Drew play the guitar
ReplyDeleteThese guitars are like little pieces of art. I love them in a row.
ReplyDeleteThose little guitars all in a row just make me smile! Bless you for your paper piecing patience...those have a lot of tiny pieces! Thanks for sharing them on MCM. :)
ReplyDeleteSetting them horizontally, in one long thin strip would be perfect! They look just right all lined up, like they have been leaned against a wall while the musicians just popped out.
ReplyDeleteYour guitars are just amazing! I can't wait to see the whole quilt...
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Emese
Beautiful blocks! And thanks for the extra videos, they are a great soundtrack for your blog post! :)
ReplyDeleteVery fun guitars! They are all so vibrant. And I thought the vintage dresses were full of little pieces!
ReplyDeleteI love your guitars. My grandson age 6 has been taking lessons over the past year. I would love to do a few of these for him. Is this your pattern? Please tell me how to get it. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI did say this is a pattern from paper panache. That's where I got it. I went back recently to find it and couldn't. email her.
DeleteLove your guitars! Too cute!
ReplyDeleteYou pick the neatest blocks Leanna! I did your cows blocks last year, and have one last one to finish, a Christmas cow! I love the banner idea for your guitars, and hey! I have that guitar arm(?) wavy strip fabric in purples and greens!
ReplyDeleteThey look so cool all lined up! Thanks so much for sharing on Midweek Makers - always a pleasure to see what you're working on
ReplyDeleteYour guitars are so cool! Lots of love going into them just like the love Drew puts into playing his for you:-)
