Why, it's a baking show!
You know we baked a LOT in the sixties!!
I even made Eclairs as a young thing in the 70's
I especially like this TV with it's many knobs, space theme, and bright red legs! Wish I had one of these too!
I found this little scrap given by a friend, in my orange collection, so it had to be pieced in right??
One of the bakers had to be appliqued.
These are paper pieced, paper-doll dresses.
Remember paper dolls? We were not so fussy in the sixties... we were happy cutting out paper clothes to fit our flimsy cardboard ladies, with little tabs to fold over her shoulders.
The doll stood on a cross piece, and we would place them near each other, "walk" them around, talking for them. Dressed in fancy clothes we wanted to wear, saying fancy things we wanted to say.
"Darling! Do come in and enjoy the TV, it's COLOR don't you know?!"
We would change their clothes often...
Pattern for all three blocks is paper pieced home |
Imagine having a sofa like this today! With those awesome shiny painted turquoise legs?? Awesome!
Then having to choose between all of these...
I think this would be a fabulous design for today's family rooms, don't you?Which one would you choose? To watch your favorite show on one of these TV's...

"If life is what you make it, I'll make mine colorful!!"
Whoop Whoop for sure LeeAnna!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I don't have to choose between all those colours!
And this is only the beginning from this years challenge!
Love your choice of tv shows!
Take care,
Joanne

Buttons on the TV's. Only you would have the right color scraps.

yep, there are a lot of benefits from hoarding!
DeleteI love it... and maybe I will take a deep breath and try to create something for the walls of my new wardrobe :o)
ReplyDeleteI think I like the orange ones best of the bunch!
ReplyDeleteLove the old tv's and sofas! Did you design these blocks?
ReplyDeleteI actually ordered a similar orange sofa in 1966, but couldn't afford to make the payments. I often wonder if it was ever made and who ended up with it.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh! I remember we had a single black and white TV until I was 18. And the Campbell Soup Kids. And we had a round orange chair rather than the orange sofa. Orange must have been big in the 50's.
ReplyDeleteLove your orange stuff!
Memories.....really great blocks!
ReplyDeleteI"ve said it before, I love this series you are doing! This month reminds me of one of my favorite lines, Bill Murray to Jane Curtin (as Todd to Gilda Radner's Lisa) on early days SNL "Gee, swell Tang, Mrs. Lubner!"
ReplyDeleteI am in love with these! What great blocks! Thanks for the memories!!
ReplyDeleteThat orange sofa would go really well in my red and yellow living room. I am loving your color scrappy sews! Just plain ol' adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are just too funny. I love them all. But I'm still waiting to see how you used the flamingos. They are still my favorites.
ReplyDeleteJust too cute! And they really are the color of Tang - which my mom rarely let me have. But I loved it. The cute little bakers in the TV block are adorable.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky find with the piece for the TV screen - your orange furniture and dress are beautiful and bright.
ReplyDeleteI just love all your wonderful blocks, but I think the TVs are my favourite!
ReplyDeleteCompletely adorable! ღ
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I want to come over and play paper dolls with you!! :-) That TV is sew darn cute!! You do the cutest blocks!
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic. I love them all. I remember playing paper dolls and it was just as you described it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI was a paper doll fan, too! Such fun to see all of your blocks and think back!
ReplyDeleteA great sofa to brighten up rainy days. I would like to sit in this one, for sure.
ReplyDeleteAll of your blocks are such fun! Love the orange TV! It's prefect!
ReplyDeleteI loved paper dolls--and would save up my allowance for them (paper being my very first love); I would choose that royal blue sofa to sit primly on, the black chic dress and watch my baking on that purple tv. what fun...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI love them all! I have that book but haven't every used it... must go pry it off the shelf and get to work!
ReplyDeleteYour paper-pieced blocks always make me smile, from your flamingos to your furniture! Thank you for making them and sharing the joy!
ReplyDeletegreat paper-pieced blocks Lee Anna. Love them all.
ReplyDeleteI-spy TVs. Fantastic. What a great collection of blocks.
ReplyDeleteLove your orange TV. It is just too cute with its little bakers on the screen. So my family room would have the purple lounge for me to sit in my blue dress watching my favourite foodie show.
ReplyDeletePS I love baking
PPS I used to love my paper dolls (in the 50s not 70s. LOL) Now I've given my trade secrets away. :)
Even the cooking show is perfect retro. The furniture gets better every month.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection. I love the idea of sitting on an orange couch, watching an orange TV in an orange dress while drinking tang. Such fun!
ReplyDeleteI love doing the time warp with all your great paper pieced blocks! Is there going to be a flamingo TV or sofa in the future?!
ReplyDeleteI love these vintage patterns
ReplyDeleteI'd choose the orange sofa, and watch the blue TV. I enjoy seeing your fabulous fabric creations each month!
ReplyDeleteI am still partial to the blue and purple pieces... but the orange looks very cool too! Baking shows are fun to watch, especially with those cute bakers!! :) thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! Oh, that orange TV is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteSo fun! Yes, I can see someone wearing that dress, sitting on the sofa with a girlfriend and watching the 'color' tv! :)
ReplyDeleteVraiment à l'orange! Your blocks are superb. They remind me of when I was a little girl in the 70s. Furniture, pillows and curtains had orange in their color schemes, along with brown. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving all your orange projects. I. Love. Orange!!!
ReplyDeleteLove all of these blocks. Did you create them or is there a pattern? Not a fan of orange but these I love.
ReplyDeleteYou are in fine form with this post! So funny! So yea, paper dolls. I loved them to pieces. I used bobby pins to hold the dresses on because the little tabs eventually ripped off. My sister use to cut them out for me in the beginning and when I saw this pattern it reminded me of her. I ended up making her a wall hanging with two dresses!! Thank you dahling...I must go and sip my tea now!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I love these! How did I know you would use orange???
ReplyDeleteOh I couldn't love these blocks more - so very fun!!!
ReplyDeleteSuch fun colors! What fun it would be to have such colorful furniture. I'm not much of a decorator though, I'd need help coordinating it all! Lol.
ReplyDeleteThese are all so fun! And yes, I had a 'fashion' paper doll which had patterned paper to design your own fabric and fashion pieces for the doll. Lots of time was spent designing!
