one little cow teapot

I have not decided on blocks to make this year with the RSC2016. The color this month is blues. I think I know what I want to make this year but I have an eye condition that has stepped up to interrupt my creative life.
Grrrr.
Suddenly over the holidays I floater covered my vision in my left eye, looked like a tree limb. Then flashes of light. Emergency visit to a retina specialist with this news. It was due to age. There is nothing to do about it. I have to wait for possibly months for it to clear on it's own. No one knows what causes it.

well!
Anyway, it makes reading, writing and sewing difficult.
I managed to make this one little lonely cow teapot to go with the black and white set.
The great news is I have a plan for setting the flamingos! It will be a good amount of work but look cool, I hope. I still have no idea how to set the dishes. All of it is on hold.
So this little scrap had a perfect little flower lovin' cow perfect for a 4" teapot block!
Check out the other blocks being made at superscrappy

  2. Oh no, that's no good to hear. Eyes and fingers are the most important to us quilters. Hope you'll be better soon. A cute little cow again, and your teapot is perfect.

  4. If you normally wear glasses, think about switching to contacts. The focal length is changed and your eye doesn't concentrate on the floater - you are sort of looking beyond it. I have a big one and contacts really made a difference. My optometrist confirmed that what I experienced is typical when people have floaters and try contacts instead of glasses.

  5. So sorry to hear about the vision issues. Seeing well is rather important to the creative process. Hopefully it will clear up sooner rather than later.

  6. Love your cow teapot, but sorry to hear about your eye. I also have a big floater and lots of little ones. Eventually you just get used to them, but it can be annoying. Good luck with yours.

  7. I, also, have those big floaters, and got the same diagnosis from the retinal specialist. So frustrating! Hope you find a way to deal with it! Your teapot is great!

  8. Hi LeeAnna,
That's quite something to hear. What a challenge to face. I hope you can adapt, not get down, and still enjoy your creative life!
    Lovely teapot!
    Take care,

  10. Love your cow teapot block! I had something similar with my eye and my eye dr told me it was the viterous humor (spelling?) a gel like substance which shrinks as we mature. It did clear up eventually, but was somewhat bothersome for a while. Was thankful it wasn't a detached retina. Hope yours clears up soon.

  11. Your lastest TEA pot of cow fabric is wonderful! I have floaters and one is in shape of a peace symbol of a language i do not speak! Then there is the occasional ocular migraines which do not hurt but provide a 20 minute light show of zig zag black and white forms and rolling colors.
Be well and see well take on another layer of meaning as we age.

  15. Leeanna, like other posters, I've also had the same floater/sparkler experience. Smart to get it checked out since when you look up the symptoms and you read detached retina, it is very scary. It does go away and I'm sure the timing is different for each person, but have faith, things will improve.
I can't wait to see what you do with the flamingos.

  17. Oh no! I hope your eye situation resolves itself quickly. I know how relaxing it is to do your crafts in whatever form. Hopefully you can still fondle fabrics.... it is very soothing. Your cow teapot is pretty.

  18. The floaters are scary at first. I've had a couple for years, but they either faded or I adjusted to them or both. It's tough getting older, but learning to adjust is a growth experience. Just read your post on connections, so insightful. While far away from family for many years I learned the value of friends, a special kind of love. The cow teapot is precious, worth a dozen others.

  19. Cow teapot! Perfect combination. Sorry about the eye thing, I have fought with eye problems too and it is scary. Sometimes when it needs time to heal we get antsy and want it fixed now!

  20. I'll echo what others have said. I had one that looked like a giant smoke ring. It was really annoying at first as it zoomed back and forth across my eye. But, after a year or so, it slowed down and I adjusted to it. Glad to hear it wasn't retinal detachment. I've loved your dishes and teapots this year but I really adored your cows and their back stories. Can't wait to see them all together.

  25. Oh, so sorry to hear about your eye. Same thing happened to me (diagnosed as PVD) right as I was beginning to teach a class on German cooking in September. It has definitely faded and/or my brain has adjusted to it. I referred to it as my jellyfish. Wishing you well. Karen

  27. Sorry to hear about your vision problems - hope this will stabilize for you quickly. I think worrying about it a lot would not be helpful - so try and chill so you can get back to making your beautiful quilts soon! The black and white cow is delightful!
