InkTober The Big (Sweet) Decision

"The big decision"
What is the scarriest thing about Halloween?? It's the sugar frenzy!
I have always loved sugar. The best thing about walking to elementary school was stopping at the penny candy store on the way home to spend my quarter on lots of candy! Sugar LOVE!
My favorite candy was sugar babies, and candy lipstick which tasted so like cherries. I loved it all though, and would start on my halloween stash with the chewy chocolate bars like 3 muskateers but eventually eat everything but the hard candies.
In about 3rd grade we had to write a report, and mine was on how candy was made!
I don't know about you but I have a hard time with the concept "just one" . One BAG?? So this year we made a decision since sugar lowers your resistance to illness, and creates cravings for us. We gave it up.

Three days later the cravings stopped. Whew! This is what I got to hand out, twizzlers and jolly rancher pops. I am not so tempted. Cole is not even tempted. I hope to give them all out. I could put out the bowl after 9, turn out the light and let the 17 year old boys without costumes but with a pillowcase, (extortionists) take the rest.
My sketch was done in ink, is pretty rough, and I don't love it, but it kind of says it all.

What was your favorite candy as a child??? What is your favorite now?

  1. I hear ya! Favorites were: PayDay, Black Cow suckers, Candy necklaces. Now: Dove Dark Chocolate, M&M's (they make both in the town next to ours!)
Happy Halloween! BTW - we bought M&M's and Reeses Peanutbutter cups. I think I am in trouble.

  2. As a child I didn't get to have chocolate until I was 8 {the war shortage--and yes, I AM that old!! ;--))} But today my favorite is definitely Almond Joy--it used to be Heath bars for years, but somehow they don't taste like they used to lately...I also love York PM candies--my strategy is to NOT OPEN THE BAG until you have to hand them out on Halloween--once that bag is opened--LOOK OUT, they become fair game....sweet post, hugs, Julierose

  3. Reece's peanut butter cups, hands down. My mother loved almond joy bars. Frank thought people who likes chocolate were weak, it used to make me mad. But now I just think it leaves more for me. Tao is so calming..........

  5. All of it! I love all of it! We don't get trick or treaters here. (my driveway is long and dark and there is a chained gate) You would think that that would keep me from having to buy candy wouldn't you? Well, no, as I walk into the grocery store there is a wall od shame (on me). I buy it, I'm not proud.

  7. I don't know that I was particular about what candy I liked. My paternal grandmother kept a milk glass candy dish full of licorice all sorts out and when we visited, I loved to indulge in them. And of course, there are several kinds of chocolate bars that are not available here that I love from Canada!!! Love your sketch!!!

  9. I love your sketch my friend! We are not keeping candy in the house this year because of mom's DIEt. But in the day, OMP - mom loves anything chocolate with nuts - that's her downfall for sure... and cake... and soda... and chips. Snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO - Bacon

  10. It's always been all about the chocolate. And as a grownup, I'll even eat the fruit filled ones that kids used to despise. I still eat dark chocolate everyday (medicinal purposes, you know), but I limit myself to about an ounce. For Halloween, we bought little hard candy lollipops. Not tempted. It's supposed to be miserable weather, so the lucky few kids that might show up will make quite a haul.

  12. PepiSmartDog: mom (Michele), said "I hear ya!" She recently stopped eating chocolate, *rolls eyes* In Aus, Halloween is getting more popular but not nearly as big as in US, Hee Hee.
