I Like Thursday #490 children's valentine cards

Ahhhh February

winter gave us a pass this year. Pretty much temps mid 60's plus intense sun at high altitudes make it warmer during the days.... I start with a photo of my front porch (alas no snow on it)

I love photography and have continued to try art photos this week along my walks

many are brought to you by the color gray

insects are coming out already, hello miss Ladybug

the road is winding
dropped bandaids won't help this road crack, sad to say
beloved donkeys taking advantage of another warm day

these two rode by in the nature preserve while we were there...
beautiful scene as we walked the nature preserve, with these folks and gorgeous horses
icy creek view along the golf course from when we had 3 days of cold

this little fellow scampered right past us with no nod at all

this tree is trying to escape the fence...
while this one won't be escaping much, wonder what happened?
ouch

gray clouds look heavy, and the mountains have no snow

our conversation starter this week is

"remember in elementary school, exchanging Valentines with classmates, did you? It was a big deal, which  tiny card to give to which child. We had to give everyone one... we decorated the box too.

remember those little cards and the tiny envelopes?

I would pick the ones to give from the 5 & dime.... tear them apart, sign them, put them in the little envelop and put my classmate's name on it. In class the next day we were called up one at a time to put the cards in the boxes each kid made. It was so fun to go thru them when you got home!

no surprise, I always loved whimsy!

That was in Tampa.... did you also do it in your area?

A happy moment was connecting with one of the I Like people, Angela, via FT.... she's a real kindred spirit to me and it meant so much to chat with her and see her studio. Thank you my friend!

Time and Acceptance are the biggest gifts one can share

in these unhappy times I have to watch fun videos... to remind me one day I'll have a dog again

happy? the basics  link  to talking dogs ( sorry the video won't appear here)

I do love a goofy baby

I'm looking forward to the start of the Olympics... ice skating and curling, opening ceremonies

Might watch the puppy bowl, but why run it during the olympics?

trying to keep up with my sewing challenges... from this week

please visit these folk to see their likes, and if they gave out kid valentines too

let me know if you wrote a post to be included... I'll add in your link!

  1. Oh yes, we did Valentines at school too back in the 1960s, same rules as you had, decorated box, one card for every kid so no one was excluded. I wonder if they still do that in school? Love the baby elephant video! And I'm looking forward to the Winter Olympics too. Canada usually does pretty well at winter sports.

  2. Time and acceptance - so important. Why do people have so much trouble with acceptance these days? The Valentines and decorated boxes were definitely a memory from elementary school. My favorite part was decorating the shoebox or oatmeal box. My girls had fun decorating Valentine boxes too. BTW - winter has mostly missed us too. We can't even blame high altitude and sunshine for our warm temps. High of 58 predicted for today. Sigh!!!!

  5. How fun to see the horseback riders on your walk! I loved the cute baby elephant video, too. Your SAHRR is coming along beautifully - I love those soothing blues! Happy Thursday!

  6. Big thumbs up for that reel on Buddhist monks and Aloka. Your photos are great - that blue pot almost makes the mortar in the brickwork look a shade of blue.

  7. My favorite Winter Olympic events are the ice skating events. I loved ice skating when I was young! Making and receiving Valentines brings back memories. Now I bake some brownie hearts in a cast iron mold that I have for my grandchildren as a treat.

  8. Mom loved Valentines Day in grade school. They brought a shoe box to school and decorated them in art class. On the actual day everyone put Valentines in all the other boxes. It is sad now as it is not allowed because some kids might not be able to bring a box or buy those cheap Valentines. It is a really fun memory for our mom, though.

  10. I love seeing your photos. I’m so bad at remembering to use the camera. I know you are disappointed in the lack of winter in Colorado, and the moisture is needed desperately. But the cold and barometric changes make me hurt all over, so I’m selfishly glad it’s been warmer with sunshine. The challenges this year are very challenging! Can’t wait to see yours.

  11. Yes, I exchanged Valentine cards and always made a decorative box that I took to class. This tradition is alive and well in the elementary grades, though the boxes have become more elaborate. Here in Kentucky, we seem to be getting your winter weather. I wish we could trade! Thank you for linking up.
