I've had a hard week, and it's continuing but here are a few things to note anyway...
the wildflower pots are now starting to take off with little white flowers,
yellow cone like ones that look beaded, and the tomato plants are holding on if not thriving here.our weather is different this year, we've already had more rain this year than we had all of last year, and it's now rainy and humid more often than dry most days. Our clothes don't dry in two days in the house now. Bath towels don't dry overnight now.
rain is good, our few trees are supported for instance and we have green grass this year. still... the homes here were built to hold heat because at the time it was cold and dry here. Our AC doesn't reach the bedroom that gets full sun beating on the outside wall all day long and heats up. We bought a stand alone AC to survive, but it can't be turned on if it's raining as the water will come in the tubes so if it's hot and rainy... miserable. I like our stand alone AC generally.
last night in the pop up storm, the wind bent trees in half, hail, beating rain that only slowed down the neighbors fireworks, but didn't stop the illegal bombs that went on after midnight. why do people want to make big noise, driving poor Milo to scream like I've never heard him? We couldn't sleep for the noise.
. I wish people would gather to see city fireworks like we used to, instead of all shooting their own off in front of our house. We don't like them but our neighbors don't care if they disturb anyone. Not a way to create a peaceful community
I like the golden rule. Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you. Peace.
I remember traveling across the country when I was a 20 something, and we were in Oakley Kansas for the 4th, and went to the fairgrounds, sat in rickety bleachers to see the fireworks with the townsfolk. A little hand snuck into mine, I looked down and saw a precious little girl sitting next to me, a stranger, she looked up and sincerely said, "we're gonna die!" I held her hand and said it would be okay.
A flatbed truck drove up with an organ on it, a guy sat down and started to play songs we all sung along with... it was a moment.
we really like the skinny sandwich buns for breakfasts
with scrambled eggwhites with cheese, and turkey sausage,
the best video I've seen on 3 ways to make a pie crust
Prompt what's your favorite fair food? The kinds of things on offer at festivals, fairs, etc...
As a little girl, I always headed to the "Pronto Pup" booth first, hot dogs on a stick coated in a pancake batter. then fried For me, with mustard which nearly always dripped on my shirt.
I also loved cotton candy and left the fair with a bag of three colored floss) I liked it so much my mother bought me a cotton candy machine (like an easy bake oven sort of) that spun granulated sugar into cotton candy for my birthday party one year.
Of course French fries fried in that old oil were also always bought, and that's where I learned to put some vinegar on them.... Mostly junk food.
I was always lured into candy apples too, oh you couldn't eat them with human teeth, but I wanted them
I asked dh and he said, immediately, funnel cake or fried dough with powdered sugar. I never liked those... and said although his parents never took them to a fair, he went to the circus and liked getting junk food there.
what about you?
outside? let me get a toy furst! |
Milo's Moments
Dad! don't call my name to go outside all the time... can't you see I don't have a toy in my mouth?
Wait for me to pick one out of my toy box, and I'll come with you, for Pete's sake, it's as if you're the one that needs to go pee!
and when I don't have a toy yet, stop calling Milo! That's my name! Don't wear it out!
now I have my ring toy, I'll take you out back, come on... Dad! Dad! Dad!
the pawrents bathed and trimmed my hairs this weekend. Whew, it's a lot cooler now. My hair kinks up and looks short but it's thick so after shaving I'm much more comfy
Mama: plus I get to see your pretty eyes and face again!
Milo: oh Mama, don't get mushy!
now please visit these people to see their lists too

Sorry you're having a time with the AC. I don't know how I survived without it growing up - lol! In 2013 we had moved into a new-to-us south Texas town and in a really nice neighborhood. Then July 4 came, and our next door neighbors set off the LOUDEST bombs we had ever heard outside of a sponsored display. These went on for a solid hour! The next day the neighbor came to our yard and laughingly said "oh our son and daughter were here and love loud fireworks - sorry about that!" Sheesh! I just don't get it. Give me a sparkler and I'm happy. :D
ReplyDeleteHooray for blooming flowers - they are so pretty! Isn't this wet weather crazy? We were just thinking that we were back to the usual hot and dry, but I guess not. Hope the local fireworks have settled down in your neighborhood - it's like that here, too. Much more fun to think about all the junk food you can come up with at the fair!
ReplyDeleteI hear you about the fireworks! We have a fabulous county sponsored display that is well attended! We didn’t this tear, it was 55 and rainy. Not good for this old grandma’s bones. But it doesn’t stop the neighbors from setting them off in the city limits! Totally illegal and irresponsible as I see it!
ReplyDeleteHappier note: Your wildflowers are looking so summery and happy. As is Milo with his new haircut! I need to look for those Sandwich buns. Seems like they would be a lighter option. Now I’d better go check out that pie crust making video as mine lately are tough! Not good!
Hope the rain abates, maybe, and you’ll start to feel better. The damp cold makes me hurt worse than usual!
Love that bowl of sweet white flowers!! We always liked forward to the chicken pitas at the fair. So delicious! Sad to hear that Milo was traumatized by the fireworks.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a sweet story. How wonderful that you could hold that little one's hand and give her some comfort.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that wonderful story with us about your travels and the little girl. Milo is the star of course! Perhaps you could create some sort of tent outside the bedroom so the sun would not strike the wall? Or an overhang? Maybe something that rolls down? Best wishes to you. Thank you for sharing. Aloha!

DeleteOh! I love ozery rounds too! You have my respect for keeping it together in a tough week.
DeleteI'm so sorry it was a rough week! We went to the big city fireworks and it was fun, in spite of the fact that my neighborhood people were setting off fireworks for 4 day straight. Very annoying.
ReplyDeletePlease hang in there! I love fair food- corn dogs and pretzels were always my favorite, but also fry bread with honey!
Quite a lot going on in this post. I hope your AC is fixed/works better. I am envious of your rain; we're having a drought. I am with your husband - I always liked funnel cake, too, but also cotton candy!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you've had a difficult week. The night of July 4 was pretty quiet in our neighborhood, but on July 3 there were big fireworks going off all around us until nearly midnight. I always feel bad for animals and for veterans with PTSD when there are lots of noisy fireworks.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is funnel cakes, but corn dogs would be a close second. My husband goes for the sugared mini donuts.
Heat and humidity is no fun! We had cool weather, rainy and humid also no fun...but we are in better shape with AC/heat and can dry things out. Sorry it was difficult. Love funnel cakes too, like your husband. We saw the fireworks in the harbor last night ... so fun ... they were postponed a day due to rain and we had a night out planned.
ReplyDeleteWe used to love that fair food back in the day. Our county fair in WV used to have the best corn on the cob, yum. Milo, I hope you get some quiet. Our fireworks probably won't stop until Monday. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteI love your bowl of white flowers. Brightens up the day, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI' sorry your weather is so awful. I think it has changed all over the world. I have never had air conditioning although i live in a hot country. Our house is super insulated and as long as I keep everything shut, the house is cool. I use my ceiling fans in the afternoon and at night every window stays open so the place can get a through draft. In the morning, the first thing I do is close everything again.
Have a great weekend,
hugs,
Lisca
We have one fireworks loving neighbour and they went on for almost an hour for Canada Day night. I really wish they would be banned.
ReplyDeleteControlling our house temp is difficult- with not great ac and ceiling fans it is livable. A week now of record breaking temperatures for heat and humidity. Very unpleasant outside. I am tired of all the weather warnings and understand how you must feel. But Milo is looking so handsome with his trim. We have hired a trainer for Ned. Of course, she is really training us.
Always good to see Milo, he's such a sweetie. I can understand him not liking the firworks as they seem much loader these days than how they were. That yellow flower is very pretty too. I wish you could send some rain to us as it's been very dry here so had to water the plants which is unusual. Have anice weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteLove those beautiful white flowers. Sorry to read about Milo. This year my city allowed aerial fireworks for the first time in ages. They were shooting them off for three nights in a row. The really loud booms sent Bleubeard into hiding and Squiggles tried to snuggle closer to me. My cats know how Milo feels.
ReplyDeleteFair food. On the midway, they had this ice cream called called sweet cream. It was silky smooth and a bit like gelato, only creamier. I've never seen it outside the fair. It was not like a DQ style, but hard ice cream. I also like those large pretzels with mustard and I have a friend who always got a big turkey leg.
Forgot mention, I have whole house AC and a small window unit for my office. I would DIE (yes, die) if I didn't have it. I had heat exhaustion a few years ago and now worry about getting heat stroke.
ReplyDeleteI'm very late getting round to visit this week....I've made 7 memory bears today and still have another waiting to be made!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear you've had hard week.....really hope next week is better for you. Milo looks fab with his new hair cut.
Hugs,
Annie x
There's something about being outside and having a corndog with mustard that's just delicious! Funnel cake, hot right out of the grease... oh, my heaven! Cotton candy... no. I say I don't like it, but now that I think about it, I'm not sure I've ever had it. Just seems like yuck... like eating your socks with sugar. I guess I'm missing out on that one.
ReplyDeleteWe have the same problem here with fireworks which is weird because we actually do have city fireworks. Would you believe the city was doing the big show and down the street, someone was doing their own show. Just stupid and so tough on all the animals. I know the dogs hate and my neighbor's cats were pretty frightened too. Your getting Maryland weather there! It's 93=96 humidity even when I get up at 5 a.m. I love your cotton candy painting, it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteSorry you're having lousy weather. We've had more rain than usual as well, but thankfully not many storms...just rain. It's made it hard for me to get out and mow at times. We walked to the fireworks. It's nice it's only a mile away and beats trying to find parking for the event. I've seen lots of folks complaining about firecrackers etc online; but it never seems to be a problem in our neighborhood, so guess we're lucky. Our plantings aren't doing as well this year as in years past, which I assume to be weather related. Got hot real early, then got cold and wet, and now is normal; poor plants must be confused.

I’m sorry that “hard” is continuing…it’s…well…hard!
ReplyDeleteYour wildflowers look so pretty!
I’ve taken to steeping my mint in water pitchers and making mint ice cubes to help with the heat. Pretty soon I’ll be leaking water out of my ears! 😊
Oh my gosh! It sounds like you had a violent 4th between the storm and fireworks! What a cute little girl…poor thing. We must be old fashioned as we still go to the firework displays in town.
Take good care…you’re in my thoughts.
