I Like Thursday # 349 music soothes the beast

welcome to this week's list of likes... that's the calendar page from May... and so true

this week, our prompt is continuing the music theme, and I like that I found so many good, really good videos this week because of thinking about the prompt... like Angelina Jordan... truly amazing talent

Prompt

"do you have a favorite musical style?  For fun:  what kind of music calms you, makes you want to dance, or stimulates you creatively? "

You know what? these are my favorites, yours may and will differ from mine, and it's OKAY to have different viewpoints!

I feel I need to spell that out these days... now on with the show...

why did I ask this question??!! I like so many styles!

For starters,

> BossaNova  anytime I want to create, or relax... interesting huh?

songsters: Antonio Jobim   Astrud Gilberto, Stan Getz

for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNZp200emfY&list=RDvMKlGFCGTJQ&index=7

>1970's  Often played while DH and I are cooking

CSNY,  Doobie Brothers, Carol King,  Billy Joel, Elton John, Loggins and Messina, Seals and Crofts

 >Jazz which can be torch singers or musicians such as Vince Gueraldi for Charlie Brown

songsters: steve winwood, Dave Brubeck (ex: fave one here)  Carlos Santana, George Benson

>Musical Theater  I sing along to so many songs from stage productions. My audition song was often Ain't Misbehavin' by Fats Waller, or

songsters: Cole Porter, Sondheim,. George Gershwin

>and last but not least for sure, vintage songs especially from the 1940's and 50''s. I like the rhythm (we swing dance) and sentamentality or playfulness of the words

Songsters: Doris Day, Glenn Miller

notably missing from my world, country, rap, classical except for some arias from operas. I associate a lot of classical music with having to play piano for 10 years as a child, and now a lot of it depresses me.

and yes, I know many of you love those genre's..... this is merely my list, what's your favorite genre?

in honor of singing.... this very charming guitarist asks random people to sing with him, and then how it felt to sing before they started and after... so cool

I don't know, but I could watch this mama and quadruplets all day long

what an important song for us right now... we can see value in others and allow for individuals to have different opinions but still get along and compromise.

just an opinion

"There ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guyThere's only you and me and we just disagree"

I never feel safe nowadays, I dream of a day when people use their energy and talents to help the collective, to enhance our lives, who focus on healthy and happiness and respect.

we changed out our closets to summer clothes this weekend, and I put this on one day, and LOVED the combination of pumpkin/pink tshirt with spring green silk sweater! I love color

I've been sewing and painting this week for my creativity outlet. I'm writing stories in my head but can't concentrate well so haven't typed them out yet. More on Saturday's creativity round-up post

I have had this indoor plant, a Shefflera for years but it started to fail, and get something sticky on the leaves...

best I can tell I have to order Neem oil to treat it, blast it with water to clean it, repot it with fresh soil, and hope for the best. At what point does a person just say it's not worth all that? I don't know... so it's sitting out on the porch to try to heal itself at the moment

Milo's outdoor toy box

we've had a lot of rain recently, and dh put some hardy grass plugs in our yard... fingers crossed they "take" and spread as well as the crabgrass does

Milo's Moment

Milo here.... I like to stand by Mama while she pecks away at whatever she does at the table. I lean really hard and move around til she drops her arm to finally, pet me!

I mean, why does she wait? I'm so pettable! And it's a reminder of how much I love her, and will do what I can to protect her. Mama, that includes from invaders by barking,  barking when the wine cork pops, and the daddy when he's in the kitchen.

Mama: welllllll  the Daddy in the kitchen is generally a GOOD thing baby

Milo: well, ya never know....

Kisses!

now sit! stay! and visit mama's friends to see what music they like and what they liked this week

  2. I LOVE The Girl From Ipanema by Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz. You and I like a lot of the same styles - Doobie Bros (I'm still in love with Michael McDonald), Steve Winwood, Elton, Seals and Crofts - and we differ in Jazz (don't like) and country (do like) - LOL! What's funny is that when I was growing up, my Daddy liked country music and I made fun of it. I wish he had lived long enough to know that I've liked it since the late 1980s. It has changed a lot and is sometimes indistinguishable from pop.
I love your green silk sweater! It looks really pretty with that shade of pink.

  3. I forgot about Show Tunes. I could probably put that ahead of the classical I listed. I need to make an effort to have more music on during my day! DH isn’t a music loving guy, so there’s that! Music on the TV would be way better than all the horrible news these days! I too love the pinky watermelon like sweater with the spring green sweater. I’m so ready for a summer wardrobe. And I need new sandals before I can wear summer pants or skirts! I really don’t like shopping for shoes! Have a great week! Hope you didn’t get hail damage on Wednesday. And I say, dump the Schefflera! Get a new one!

  4. I've been sewing and embroidering with pink and light green this week, and loving that combination, so your outfit is great! I enjoy so much of the music you mention, too - can't dance, but love anything that makes you want to move. So glad Milo has you to lean on!

  6. Darn, I forgot to mention show tunes in my post. I know all the words to so many of all the old Broadway shows tunes. Love that style of music so much. Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure very pettable Milo is not missing out on much petting in that house! We laugh at Ned cause he has a definite "come hither" look when he wants a rub.

  7. Those were all interesting answers. I like just about any kind of music. Hey, Carlos Santana was around here for a concert not too long ago. Dave Mason, WOW, I used to really like his stuff. Milo, you're such a handsome and sweet dude. I'm sure you never lack for attention. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

  8. Fun to think of all the great music out there. Right now I don’t listen much….I get interrupted more in my day than I like so I find it hard to put it on then stop and start it…silly. Scratch Milo for me!

  9. So many styles of music. I have Caravan Palace and Afrocelt Soundsystem on constant replay. I usually listen to music to get jazzed up. I agree - your pumpkin/green combo is terrific!

  10. LeeAnna - love the May calendar quote - spot on!

I also love 70's music - just so many wonderful artists and music from that decade.

Your tshirt/sweater combo looked pinky/red to me and evoked thoughts of watermelon! Bring on summer fruits!

So sad about your Sheffelera - I had a Shrimp plant for years, and it got "scale" - I tried hard using all the techniques you mentioned and I finally gave up.

    Have a terrific weekend!

  11. I used to love Dave Mason! I saw him in concert a bunch of times. I get nostalgic when I think about the music when I was younger. It's amazing how music can transport you back in time. Milo has the best family!!

  15. That first sign is so right! Whew, just living keeps me plenty busy. I love 70's music. Some of the best music was produced in that era. Thanks for linking up and have a great week.
