I Like Thursday #322.... pumpkins!

Welcome to this week's list of likes...

pumpkins in the halloween tree

we survived Howl-a-weenie with the idiot neighbors bonfire in their driveway (against HOA rules and common sense when living in a fire zone) and the heat wave that caused our bedroom temps to soar. It's supposed to get cooler Thursday but since the forecasts go up as the temps do, (kinda negates the idea of "forecast" if they keep raising it to keep up with how much warmer the temps are thru the day) who knows?

we like cold weather. Our bedroom is usually 20 deg hotter than outside, even when we open all the windows. I like sleeping under a cozy quilt or comforter.

 Reading:

audio:   second in series a mystery plus a spoo (standard poodle in black)

on ebook: still this but nearly done

and tried a recipe because it was discussed... for garlic chicken orzo

kind of a fail because the recipes I found online called for dill

the bad news? it doesn't taste good

the good news, we have an awful lot  is left

from Pier one years ago, a blue mantle pumpkin

A happy quilt finish hanging up already....

Saturday's quilt finish hanging in the living room!

Grateful for being able to mail in my votes... I am physically compromised, allergic to the vaccines and it's a God Send to be able to still vote, as a woman with our rights increasingly being taken. Saw this shirt this week, it's a sorry situation I'd be afraid to wear it in our neighborhood.

speaking of fine dining....

Our prompt this week is to talk pumpkin

.... cooking with pumpkin that is...

1.I regularly feed Milo's pumpkin craving with some sweet smelling oat pumpkin dog cookies. My friend Joy asked why they are dog cookies... no sugar in them... except I put a scant tablespoon in his, plus a heaping tbsp almond butter. I make a half recipe that makes 12 cookies that last a long time around here. https://www.pookspantry.com/oatmeal-pumpkin-dog-treat-recipe/

I glop dough on the silicon sheet, smash with a fork til thin,  and break apart for smaller treats

time to bake!

POODLE TESTED
POODLE APPROVED

2. I have never been a fan of pumpkin pie... something about how the custard peels away from soggy crust and the texture, but... I  tried this recipe yesterday,  for pumpkin pie bars on graham crust

 https://www.thekitchenmagpie.com/pumpkin-pie-bars/

"I'll take two to go, don't bother to wrap them"

you prebake the graham cracker crust, loaded with butter and sugar, and zowie! These are just so good! I'll put this on our regular schedule now that it's baking season again. Crunchy, buttery, sweet WIN!

we may have had a rather big piece each and Milo ate a bit of the custard.

the other recipe we like a lot involves molasses and pumpkin in muffins, a recipe like this:

https://www.food.com/recipe/pumpkin-molasses-muffins-255654

didn't make them this week, and can't find an old pic, but they are moist and delish!

Speaking of poodles and who isn't?

Milo's Moment

Milo here, the spoo turning "blue"

Mama:  (when a black poodle gets very gray early)

Milo: enough with the info mama... I like to run Daddy around the family room daily, just to keep him moving... and I like to be chased which proves I'm in the lead and I like being leader

He's so slow he can't catch me... heh heh

I change direction to keep him from falling down dizzy. Humans don't know it's better to run on all fours... more ergonomic like

the game goes on and on til I flop down on home base. That means the Daddy should sit on the floor and watch me squeak the ball

I win. I winIwinIwin!
Mama needed my help this week when she made a new batch of pumpkin treats for me. I am always helpful and willing to try anything she bakes, just for quality control ya know.

now please visit these fine humans to see what they like this week and if they cooked you any pumpkin treats!

PINK pumpkin!

  2. It will be fun to read all the pumpkin posts. I make a butternut squash custard without the crust sometimes....I bet I could do it with pumpkin...don't need carbs...and it might be lovely. Will try it and let you know what I think!

  3. Love all your fun pumpkins, especially the pink one! I didn't know that you could make cookies for dogs - including pumpkin in them. Looks like Milo will keep you and Drew moving! Happy Thursday!

  4. I do like pumpkin - bread and muffins in particular. My husband's favorite pie is pumpkin and lucky for him the bakery (in the local grocery store 2 blocks from our house) makes a great "punk pie". He buys them all year long. I may try out a recipe for pumpkin spice snickerdoodles today. No actual pumpkin puree in them - just the spice blend. It turned cold overnight here, so might be a good day to bake something.

  8. Hello, Milo and Mama of Milo! You’re both looking happy and cozy. Love it! Good of you, Milo, to switch directions for the humans.

You’ve very cool Halloween decor, LA! I like the tshirt, too. Maybe when I was younger, like two years ago, I would wear it without feeling like I’m offending anyone enough to have to be in my face. Our front yard has everything but lawn on it that people around here most likely think we’re “darn hippies,” hahahaha

    Milo”s treats sound pretty tasty.

  9. Thanks for sharing all the pumpkins !

We do own a special shirt we are very careful about wearing : It shows General Sherman saying "DON'T make me come down here again !"

  10. we love all things pumpkin here as well!
food, color and its shape and waistline.
love to draw them, often on envelopes, to help stopping boring
mail of the snail mail kind.
love to make them of cloth, paint, threads, chopsticks and imagination.
love the punky pies with vanilla ice cream and a dollop of cranberry sauce on top! especially when they go on sale, if too hot to bake...

  11. Hey, thanks for your nice comment! I wanted to come back here and encourage you. Just hold to let you know is true and stay safe. That's all you have to do. Much bigger. Things are working their way out and I trust it is all going somewhere good. More people are voting and care about voting than ever! So somehow we are moving forward. It's not the first time in our history that we faced scary issues like this. But they will never win. Aloha to you from Honolulu

  12. You have lovely quilts hanging in the living room. Pumpkins are such happy looking things. I'm not a big pumpkin pie fan either but I like it in soups, muffins, etc. Always enjoy Milo's moments....he is such a well loved boy.

  13. Great to see Milo running around the family room! Is he getting grey? Oh dear. I suppose you must feed him a bit more pumpkin pie...lol.
Here things with my ill husband have calmed down a bit. The last visitor has left early Thursday morning (Graham's daughter) and we are alone now until our eldest, Phil, arrives on Monday night. We seem to have the pain medication a bit better under control and graham is up several times during the day. He has not been able to eat for weeks but today we are trying little amounts of highly soluble food like porridge. He has also eaten poached egg white, which so far hasn't disturbed him.
    Have a lovely weekend,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  16. I guess your temps have cooled by now, at least for a bit. Our news out here in the St. Louis area said there was snow near Denver. And what is this ... you don't like pumpkin much??!! I'm not crazed by it like some folks but I do enjoy pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting! Yum! Have a great week!

  18. There's something very comforting about pumpkins, whether eating they in a variety of food or just seeing them carved.
