I took another lesson from sketchbook revival as a freebie from her first year. The teacher was Shelley Klammer and she did some interesting activities. I tried to take a class from Blueprint. I made it thru the first 10 min and got bored but it stimulated me to do an experiment. I continued my quest of Mandalas in both painting and quilt making.
the quilt in the bottom right corner will be shown Saturday's post |
So lets just start the show...
because of the blueprint class I decided to do a comparison of my three paint sets... Yarka, Kuretake, and Koi. I dabbed paint, and compared the intensity (kuretake won for that) then allowed the two colors to run together on all three sets (again Kuretake won) then tried 4 colors of each set to see how they would blend. My fave to use, KOI didn't blend as well, or look as intense, but it has so many colors and is so cute to use, I'll keep using it. The cheap yarka did okay with intensity but the kuretake was intense and blended great! However, not many colors and not my faves.
the first thing Shelley K. had us try was mandalas! Surprise! I've been focusing on them for a week now
I just put down colors in each circle, and was happy to see how it looked
Next she had us scribble, then turn the sketchbook around til we saw something there, then add a few lines. That was fun! I asked DH to do it and he couldn't see anything in his but I saw a bird
Oh this is going to be a good thing to do when you don't know what to do!!!
I did it again and saw a poodle... surprise!
from a random scribble! I love it!
Me Too! |
One morning I painted a circle and drew symbols on it to create repetition for a mandala. I kind of like it, but I did another one on the back that is hideous! Can't win 'em all!
Yesterday's mandala however is highly interesting to me...
I took close ups of it and now have some ideas for a series, to move from paper to fabric, and back again. Working in series is hope for the future, right? Anyway it's good to be excited about my work, moving toward mandalas and learning.

ReplyDeleteHi LeeAnna,
ReplyDeleteLots of cool looking creativity going on there :)
great to compare paints...like threads ...which one works for you and for which project and what look your going for.

Joanne
I had to look up mandala because I wasn't familiar with the term. What an interesting process! Just playing with color, and then letting it tell you what it wants to be . . . I quilt like that sometimes. But usually I'm much less fluid with my creativity.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and colourful art, love the kindle cover. Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie

It's hard to choose what I like best - they are all so expressive - meaning I sense a feeling in each one just not sure I can put it into words. Your combination of colors is so refreshing. I've never been into painting but I can see why you like it. I might like it too.
ReplyDeleteHoly moly you have been busy. Everything looks great. I love the quilting piece and your dog is a cutie.
ReplyDeleteLove your use of colour. I need to be braver with colours.
