I knew I wanted sun rays and breezes
Tree trunks and wings
While I filled in beaks with the yellow rayon I quilted the rays with, I found I didn't want to over quilt the birds. Surprised myself. I thought I'd really embroider them more but I didn't want to loose puff, or painting. I used a variety of madeira metallic and rayon threads.
I marked the rays with chalk and a ruler
Free motion quilted the birds and spiral breezes/songs
went for a sketch feeling around some flowers to bring attention to the bird hunting a worm in the flowers
needs a lot more quilting but I'm at a stopping place. Can't decide where to put the vine, and more breeze spirals. So for now it's hanging where I see it a lot...

Wow, this is a beautiful quilt, with all the joy of spring in it! Good luck with the move.

Oh, I like the distance photo. I do that sort of thing - step back. or leave it up to notice now and then when it will tell me what it wants. But I hadn't thought of showing work like that on my blog. a photo like that could help to see what it does look like from a distance and also could help you see it like someone else does, rather than the one who has been up close and personal with it all along.
ReplyDeleteAnd as Sylvia says, it is a beautiful spring quilt!
Sandy

ReplyDeleteLove the spiral breezes/songs - the birds look SO happy!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with Sandy - the shot from a distance gives a perspective of shape and color we don't get from the close-ups. So lovely!

ReplyDeleteYour Tweet is darling, and I LOVE the quilted rays of sunshine! I never would have thought of that, but they are absolutely perfect and they really do evoke that early morning feel when the sun is still rising and shining sideways instead of straight down at noon. Love it!
