As I am going through my stack of finished quilts, and there are lots of them, I am trying to make sure they are all on my spreadsheet list. I am trying to remember to take a quick pic of each one. I thought I'd show you a couple Christmas ones.
Santa on vacation... I titled it "Wish you were here!"
I cut all components free hand with no patterns. The shirt was printed on a tropical fabric. It's small but there are always little places for a display...
I didn't try to take a real quality photo of each quilt because of time, just took them on my bed, then folded each to keep with the other seasonal quilts.
Santa is cavorting on the beach with Prancer who is wearing a life preserver, Santa is resting under a 3-D palm tree, holding a Mai Tai, and has sunburned knees! I grew up in Florida and saw many snowbirds with white skin, and red sunburns over the holidays!!
The other little quilt was a purchased embroidery. I set it simply and quilted hills of snow into it. A little embroidered fabric is tempting, but then you need to figure out how to quilt around embroidery. It reminds me that one doesn't always have to choose to be good... Milo has taken that to heart!
As I mentioned, I am taking quick shots and this one is fairly large for a wall piece at about 55" square. It was a kit using Linda DiBono patterns. I worked on it at a retreat, when we moved to this house and didn't know where my stuff was. That was about 17 years ago.
Each applique is fused on, and heavily machine embroidered. The quilting is heavily done with sliver mylar thread that is fussy but very shiny and reflective.
The borders were my idea, and have couched brightly colored chenille yarn, and lots of sparkly threads.
I made this runner last year I think. It's done with a pretty border print and 60 degree triangles.
It is also quilted with metallic gold thread, from Superior.
I love to see my older quilts come out of hiding. There are more Christmas quilts including bed quilts of Hunter Stars and others with applique or row by row designs. Our home is so small I just have stored them without being able to bring them out each year because they were "stored"
Now they have to be transported out West.
OMG
Have I mentioned I have more than 200 quilts?

I love your creativity and talent. You have such fun quilts. More than 200? I can't imagine having that many!
ReplyDeleteOMG. I cant believe you have 200 quilts. I donate some every year(3-5) and only keep about 10! I only have 1200 square feet in my home so there is no place to store them. Wow-that's gonna be fun to try and move that many. You are so talented-the ones you have shared are so sweet. Best wishes. mary
ReplyDeleteI don't have close to 100, but still more than I can use so I've been gifting some lately to women in our church who have meant a lot to me. I'll miss the quilts, but love the feeling of gifting.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like fun to pull out quilts you haven't looked at in awhile! I love the Santa in a tropical shirt with a little umbrella in his drink! Mike would go for that! (avoiding the snow!)
ReplyDeleteHi LeeAnna,
ReplyDeleteGood thing you will be living in a state that has quilt like temperatures!
Hi Lee Anna,
ReplyDeleteMORE than 200 quilts?! What a shame you have to store most of them. Now that you're moving you'll at least have to mix up the rotation and let some see the light of day while others rest. That one with the reindeer in the center is so cute - the expression on the reindeer is so expressive. ~smile~ Roseanne
I love seeing all your christmas quilts! Especially that Santa on the beach!!! Are you guys packing?
ReplyDeleteLike you, I have a lot of quilts here. I've gifted many to family, donated many to various organizations, and given many as gifts to non-family members. The seasonal ones come out once a year and then return to wait their turn. It would take a lot of moving boxes for all of mine - but the good news is THEY DON'T BREAK!
ReplyDeleteSo fun! I love the sense of humor in the first two! The others are classically beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLoving your little (and large) Christmas quilts--I took out my two --one from years ago when I first began quilting, a log cabin with candles and my "Cow-mas " runner...perhaps this coming year should be Christmas themed for me...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteLove the tropical Santa. That is so cute. I'm sure ALL of your quilts bring a smile to your face as you go through them again. Quilts may keep the body warm, but I think they warm the heart too.
ReplyDeleteLove your Christmas quilts. I bet going through them was like visiting an old friend.
ReplyDeleteI love pulling the older quilts out too! Love yours
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful and creative! Keeping an electronic record of all the quilts and projects is a great idea, something to add in my resolutions for next years! Thanks for the inspiration
ReplyDeletethanks so much for sharing your Christmas collection!

Your quilts are wonderful! I love the tropical Santa; now that's my kind of Santa! Your applique work is wonderful; and I love the sparkly quilting thread! So beautiful. Thank you for linking up with To-Do Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteHaha :D The "One day of coal" cracks me up. :)
ReplyDeleteYour tropical Santa is often how he is portrayed for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere who experience a summer Christmas. 200 quilts is a mind boggling number. Thanks for linking to Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE.
ReplyDeleteI love all of them, but the beach Santa is out of this world - because it's summer somewhere in the world and Santa needs to be ready for all sorts of weather. Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned!
ReplyDeleteBoth of those are adorable! I like how they put a different spin on the holidays - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow, they are all so beautiful LOVE the surfing Santa!
ReplyDeleteI love your Santa! You must be renting a pretty large truck to move all your stuff. Hopefully your new place is bigger to you can display more of those 200 quilts. Wow! That is an impressive number.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up!! I love your Christmas collection.
