I didn't mark, or take much care of size, they all came out about the same. After I cut them off, pressed them open, I played around with them and finally decided to do little pinwheels.Really, I didn't spend much energy trying to be exact and the blocks looked ragged but I knew they met in the center. A quick trim took care of the uneven edges, and I got to have fun instead of worrying.
Four of the little HST blocks make one pinwheel block, that I trimmed to 2"
Crazy?
ha ha!
So I didn't fuss the sewing, instead just placed them together with the angles meeting and sewed about an 8th inch seam, making sure they met in the centers. Then I trimmed all four sides down to the 2" block.
Now what... hmmm.... well I could do a border of them. What in the center???
I have a drawer of misfits, so I peered inside to find the little stamp Deb Gabel gave me once. She and I were in an art quilt group together for a few years and she was throwing this away. Well, you know me!
"could I have it?" Laughing, she said, sure.
It's almost the right size. I'll have to trim the sides, and add a bit to the top and bottom and it will be cute!
I grew up in Tampa, and love flamingos, and love to use scraps! This should finish about 9" X 12" and hang in a little space that needs some color!
cute right?
No piece left behind...

ReplyDeleteI have some tiny bonus HST that I was thinking about using for pinwheels. Just have to remember where I put them.
ReplyDeletePat
Fantastic, LeeAnna. I'm drawn to all the simple HST-based blocks at the moment so your pinwheels fit the bill nicely, and flamingos too - perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour BLUE scraps. A friend's scraps. Use ALL the scraps!! :o))
ReplyDeleteHINT: I double-stitched my HSTs from Kevin's mystery, too. LOL!!
This quilt lives up to your Blog's name. Clearly you are confident using color. The piece makes me smile. Actually, grin is more accurate.
ReplyDeleteHow cute it that! So fun to just sew and not worry. Maybe I can get in on the Thursday post this week. We will see how the week goes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight this will be. You inspire me to make some small quilt for places that need something around our house. Love your flamingos; I think these blues are the perfect complement. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI think this little piece is wonderful - and I did a whole quilt border once with those twice-sewn HST triangles. Wonky and erratic but oh, so colorful.
