These are two yellow hexie blocks (I got the pattern from Twiggy and Opal but changed it) Please refer back to one of my early posts about hexie stars for the pattern source.
I like the block because it's done by hand, uses little scraps (the blocks are 8" X 9") and are graphic.
I do not have fun piecing them. I mean, I enjoy hexies all day long but these tiny spindly points done with EPP are more of a challenge than fun. Still... I started them and plan to make something from them.
There are lots of components done waiting for turning into blocks
and we hope to drive to Frederick today for open houses and a walk so maybe some will be pieced.
First there is the fabric choice, then cutting a rough size, then basting through paper (not how I do hexies thru back only) then choosing backgrounds to go with stars, basting them, then sewing the whole shebang.
I decided to use the color of the month, yellow, to do backgrounds on some stars and quite love it!
Just to amuse myself... a button flamingo looks pretty!
If I had sewing time this week, I used it to finish the top to my abstract including piecing in the flower strip with two more NYBeauties...
And sewing on a border of stars. Points there repeat points in the top. Yellow gives me breathing room and I expect to both hand and machine quilt this. I made this for a planned exhibit but might choose to keep it instead of selling it. I fell in love with it.
I had to piece two little flower strip pieces together to get the whole saying, but this whole piece came from scraps too small to keep and that's why it sings!
I already did a post on the center of the quilt last week and will do one once it's quilted.
As always, I thank Angela at soscrappy for the rainbow scrap challenge group as inspiration to work in one color for the month.

Wow, your yellow improv just sings! Thos hexie stars look fussy and difficult, but they sure are cute!
ReplyDeleteYour yellow improv piece is so full of sunshine. Great job. Love the hexie stars and the button embellishment is perfect.
ReplyDeleteSunny cheer!
ReplyDeleteI love your hexies but your top is looking so beautiful. xx
ReplyDeletePretty YELLOW prints in your spiky stars!!
ReplyDeleteI am really loving your yellow improv. The NY Beauty blocks and the fun little flower piece with the poem in it are so perfect for this piece! I like EPP blocks, too- are you making them in lots of different colors?
ReplyDeleteIt almost seems as though the hexie stars would be easier to piece with the old-fashioned template method than with the EPP! But maybe that's because I hate EPP and used to relax with my little pile of traced pieces! Love all the pieces shown in this blog!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty yellow stars. I like the colors you picked up for the print.Yellow is the special color in our world, which makes us happy and something exciting.Thank you for visiting and kind comment. Happy day to you.
ReplyDeleteNice stars. Your points are pointy... great yellow projects!
ReplyDeleteThose stars do look quite challenging to stitch.
ReplyDeleteI like the photo of the parts and pieces ready to be made into something!
Yes those pointy stars look tricky! I love EPP but not sure I've the patience for those.
ReplyDeleteOh, I do hope you'll decide to keep your beautiful quilt. It's just so full of energy and joy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work! It's not just 'improv' it's fabulous.
ReplyDeleteLots of good things going on here.
Thanks for sharing the hexie stars. Although beautiful I don't see any in my future!
ReplyDeleteBright and cheerful projects, perfect for the beginning of the summer!! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI love the little row of flowers with the NY Beauty "sun" blocks, it looks like a garden. I understande why you want to keep it. Thanks for linking with Design Wall Monday.
ReplyDeleteLovin' the yellows.
ReplyDeleteAs pesky as the points are, they are striking and effective. So love this piece!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt you made from all your scraps! Those pieces look so tiny - truly a labor of love.
ReplyDeleteI still am working on string blocks with soscrappy colors and had yellow from last year. However, yellow is my absolute favorite color!!
ReplyDeleteI guess I could have put together some yellow hexies or something for soscrappy this month, but it won't happen now this late in the month.
So pretty LeeAnna! Thanks for sharing this lovely yellow creation on Midweek Makers
ReplyDeleteYour hexies stars are so pretty. You always make so beautiful things, Lee Anna.
ReplyDeleteAs usual you inspire me and make me think out side the box. Those points on the star hexagons would drive me crazy as I like them to be perfect LOL yours look perfect LOL Love your abstract piece is gorgeous and I can see why you don't want to part with it? It would be a great wall art to be placed some where were you can see it when sitting down and thinking, it would sooth you and calm one. Cheers Glenda
ReplyDeleteSo cheery!
ReplyDeleteYellow = Happy! I think this quilt needs to be yours!
