I took out previous Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks the other day.
Boy time flies! I have a lot of blocks to turn into something. I realized it's the one block a month I like, even with as many as four series going a year.
The fun is in doing one cow in a color for instance, one flamingo or guitar a month. Seeing them accumulate.
I made this little book with a list of ideas for just rainbow scrap challenge blocks this year as well as lists of previous year's blocks.
I like the idea of this bear's paw block too, and printed it out to use for my little folding book.
Things like this homemade book make me happy. Less likely to lose the list.
two sheets of paper folded in half, then stapled along the side (spine) and then write in it
I'm not sharing the list of possible's for this year as I might get to a few. For now, I like hand work so I tried basting curves through the paper. I usually baste through just the fabric on the back of hexies and diamonds, or glue baste. I like basting thru the paper, slowly pulling the fabric over an edge for a stitch, then the next little part, stitch.
Who knows what the colorful leaves will become. Something bold and graphic, representing growth.
I hope you look around while you're visiting my blog... hit that home button to see what else is new. I am doing a series on Thursdays called " I Like" of items that made me glad that week.

i love making little books for notes 2! What a fun way to keep somewhat organized, well at least have some in one area. i made one awhile back that named "Splendid Pronouncements" where quotes and other strings of words i hear/or make up that hold a meaning/picture that rings true to me can live, together. ReplyDeleteYou've got some delicious PURPLE scraps there!! My lists are typically held within one of three quilt notebooks that I have in my studio. Even the little booklets like you've made... I can find a way to misplace them!! Come to think of it, I actually lost my newest quilting notebook, too. Hoping to find it before my Longarm Meeting next month!!
ReplyDeleteHope that some of those blocks will come together soon. It would be lots of fun to revisit some of the menageries of the past.
ReplyDeleteI use composition books around the house and have a small moleskin journal in my purse for notes and such. Like you say, harder to misplace than a scrap of paper.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a lovely collection of blocks from previous years. Leaves are a great start for this year.
ReplyDeleteI like the purple leaves on the orange background...they POP!
ReplyDeleteYour leaves look great on that background fabric. I have a list of projects in an old notebook. I also have one on the side bar of my blog. But, I'm like a squirrel and an easily distracted by other projects! Lol!
ReplyDeleteI love your purple leaves.. purple is great !!! Phenny said he has an idea book for this year too... but I better don't read it LOL
ReplyDeleteLove the leaves! I hope some of last year's blocks make it into a quilt this year, it would be so cool to see them again. Can't wait to see which ideas from this year turn up here - your choices are always interesting.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you have suggested a cool new project without knowing it...do all your block of the month projects need to turn into quilts? Can't you make them into block of the month fabric books? Celebrate each month as a finished unit (page) and each year as a finished book. And your book collection could then become another one of your special collections!
ReplyDeleteGreat way to use those cute purple scraps!
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see what you do with those blocks.
ReplyDeleteLove the purple leaves on orange background. Wow! I reclaim my sons' school notebooks, remove all the used pages and change the cover to make it really mine. Love the bear paw on yours. Cute! ;^)
ReplyDeleteI like your book idea, especially the cover! I often see ideas I want to try, and if I don't write them down, I definitely forget them. Usually mine go in a note on my iPad. Those purple leaves are fun!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty purples!
ReplyDeleteI have a little spiral notebook for ideas. I like your idea also. I love the way the purple leaves look on that orange fabric.
ReplyDeleteI have general notebooks for general concepts. I lose them. This flat book stays in the RSC block box so it's always there. It's just for that project.
DeleteA book of lists! to keep by each project! Looking forward to what this year RSC brings!
ReplyDeleteLove the contrast between the leaves and that orange background.
ReplyDeleteVery dramatic.
Purple leaves, why not? Years ago in our WA guild a gal started making Paper a Pieces in that stiff paper and it became, her business. I still have some blocks with the papers still in them. I like what you said about pulling the thread through, so precise.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what your lovely purple leaves become!
ReplyDeleteI like the purple leaves. Great idea.
ReplyDeleteLove those shades of purple!
ReplyDeleteLove those leaves - but you know you had me at purple and orange! The leaves are the perfect shape!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes think the main reason I started a blog was because I kept losing my lists and notes to myself - I finally made a place where I couldn't lose things. Finding lots of people I like was a serendipitous bonus!
Okay, that's a start. I started some orange peels or whatever they're called, last year but didn't get very far. Off to FL Tuesday AM, but I'll be following. Got to keep an eye on you.

I saw myself in your post. I also love the process of making one block a month and watching them add up. I am continuing my RSC16 blocks this year but also want to start a new block too. January is almost done and I haven't done any purple blocks for RSC17 yet. But I do have one cut out.
ReplyDeleteI think your leaves (and their symbolism) are lovely. What a great idea! So glad you are joining in! xo
ReplyDeleteI thought those leaves were actually stitched down onto a pillow! Which is not a bad idea --- add some embellishment (beads, embroidery) or couching....ooohh, so much pretty purple potential! I know you will have fun with them!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing the locks you make for the RSC each month. Last years cows just killed me - they were so fun and full of personality!
ReplyDeleteLove your collection of blocks from RSC's in year's past - so fun to look at - you're so inspiring! Thanks for sharing on Midweek Makers!
ReplyDeleteLove love love those purple leaves on the orange LOL WOW Hugs Glenda
ReplyDeleteyour leaves are very pretty, I love the color combo!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed you can stick to a block idea month after month, creating a mini series.
ReplyDeleteThose purple leaves are beautiful against the orange :)
