From the number of languages being spoken, it was an international market. The great leveler. The big common ground.
IKEA
I like to see it all. While there for one thing, I happened into the children's section, and saw this "POODLE" toy. At least that's how I saw it, and there were children running into the poodle toys. I said to dh, "that's a great Poodle house!"
An English speaker stopped to show us pictures of her 5 poodles, lol! We shared poodle talk for a bit, discussing things like breeders, hair, lumps and bumps.
Eventually we got to the reason we went there...
More Fabric.
My studio is full of Fabric.
And I always want more. I even dithered over the $4.99/yd IKEA fabric, at 50" wide, with big graphics. Cotton.
I admitted to having more fabric than can fit into my existing shelves. Three choices:
Give it away. (blink, blink) BWAAAA HAHAHA
Use it (er, maybe...)
Buy new shelving units, Ding Ding Ding!
They are to hold this
After DH puts the units together of course.
I also scored this find... I do love Halloween. I thought this might be fun to stencil some images onto fabric for some gifts. I found it at the Paper Source store.
And a big purchase at Bed Bath and Beyond, a new water sprayer for the studio. I don't put water in an iron, I keep a sprayer instead. Mine broke after about 8 years, and I was sorry because I liked it.
So there you have it. Studio purchases. I hope to return to creating soon.
Isn't a studio like a playhouse? Mine is... and there's no adult around to tell me to clean my room.
Storage is such a crucial part of any sewing room! And I am needing to get a few new spray bottles myself; thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, "Sweden," my favorite US destination. I have one of those Algot shelving units and you can't beat it for cost effectiveness and ease of assembly. 🇸🇪 P.S. they have great coffee too. 😎

ReplyDeleteMan! I don't think there's an IKEA anywhere near me. From where I am going anywhere takes two hours. (we do have the usual big stores, Home Depot, Costco, Safeway, Big Lots)but nothing quite as fun as Ikea! I could never give away my fabric either!!!

I was told when my iron started 'peeing' everywhere to use a spray bottle instead. I should have listened! My daughter is taking me to Atlanta in a week or so, just to go to Ikea! Can't wait to see what I come away with!

ReplyDeleteWish we had an IKEA closer (5 hours) because it is a fun destination. More fun than shopping online. Maybe putting the fabric away in these will spark the creativity. Most likely you will find things you had forgotten about and start picturing what you could do with them. That's what happens to me when I get to reorganizing.

ReplyDeleteI feel your pain (?). I have more fabric than I will probably ever use (don't tell my husband!) but I can't seem to resist buying more. I felt victorious the other day when I went into my LQS for something specific, which she didn't have, and came out with less than a yard total of other prints. Of course then I screwed up the next day when I went to another quilt shop looking for that one thing and came out, not with that but with almost four yards - most or which will not be used in the project for which I've been shopping. And now my closest LQS has announced a sale for this week: 30% off store-wide! {sigh} I'll never come out ahead.

ReplyDeleteHaha! Having done a few quilt shows now (the first for myself last weekend) I'm thinking that Ikea really should sponsor these exhibitions, I don't know what we would do without the Ivar shelving system!
ReplyDeleteThe new units look great! We have these in our closets, so be aware of grid lines pressed into fabric. I ended up putting towels on the bottom to protect my clothes.
ReplyDeleteHah -- no adults allowed in MY studio, either! I love your attitude. And I think I'm going to take your advice with the spray bottle. No matter how much I spend on an iron, they always start leaking and peeing on everything eventually, and replacing the iron is a waste of money that could be spent on MORE FABRIC!

ReplyDeleteI was recently at Ikea on a weekend, right after the new catalog came out. It was a mad house and made me thankful that I came for one item and knew exactly where it was. I'm glad you were able to find some useful storage!
