The color of the month at superscrappy is brown. Still brown. Good thing it's a short month.
In honor of Valentine's day I offer "chocolate diamonds"
These are not pretty to me.
They ARE fun to make. I take all the tiny pieces, and start sewing willy nilly, matching angles one to another til I get a basic shape from which I can use my plexi template to cut a diamond shape.
Each one is fun to make. To see what it looks like when trimmed. It appeals to the serendipity in me.
My motto this year, "use it" is followed. The scrap bin is reduced, and I admit the brown bin has gotten stale to me so I need to use it up.
Here it is with the blue from last month. Blue and brown work for me. The bits of golden brown help.
Hi, early bird. So now you have two blocks for RSC16. That's one more than I have. Glad you had fun making it. The fun is the goal or some of us would have quit long ago.
ReplyDeleteyou're right: the blue and brown look great together! just wait until all the other colors come out to play- it will just keep getting better and better!
ReplyDeleteLove your Chocolate Diamonds, very clever.
ReplyDeleteI don't love brown either, but it sure helps other colours to look great! Love the brown and blue diamonds together :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you for USING IT and creating diamonds that will become a sparkling quilt.
ReplyDeleteI think I would prefer a chocolate fabric diamond over a "real" one anyday! Those are pretty and make a great combo with the blue!
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't like diamonds! And then add chocolate to that! Perfect combo! Love your blocks. And it's great to see that all those little pieces get used up and not thrown away!
ReplyDeleteLovely browns--chocolate is even tasty in quilts--who knew? lol hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteGreat diamonds, and sure I agree with you brown and blue look good together. You have used such pretty small pieces and th result is great.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have soooo much fun putting your rainbow diamonds together at the end of the year!
ReplyDeleteI love brown and blue together. I'm not wild about either one of them separately, but together they can be grand.
Lovely fun piecing! Its looking like a crazy patch, which I just love to make. Happy Quilting.
ReplyDeleteSo many people just don't like brown! I really hve not met a color I didn't like....or a fabric style I didn't like. However there are people I don't like, so that makes up for it!
ReplyDeleteLove that crumbly goodness!
ReplyDeleteI love your blocks, even the brown ones. This is going to be a super cool quilt. You give me great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBrown is basic - not pretty, but you need some basic to make the pretty stand out. The blue and warm brown diamonds look great together.
ReplyDeleteAt first glance I saw strings in these diamonds. Then I saw the crumbs. Are you starting with strings and then going to the tiny bits or are you doing a bit of both? Paper pieced?
ReplyDeleteYou and Maureen are both using this design. Great way to use up scraps.
no strings... all crumbs but some crumbs are tiny little 2 inch strips. If I have a lot of 1-2 inch strips I sew them together first like I do the odd shapes.
DeleteMy first thought was...You sure make brown pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe brown look very nice with the blue.
ReplyDeleteHow intricate! How big is a 9-patch diamond?
ReplyDeleteThink of browns as " earth tones" maybe you will like them better . Earth tones go with everything. I love them
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of browns, but love how yours play with the blues.
ReplyDeleteYou have literally made something of nothing with those scraps. Great job! I assume that you will be making these for every color. I can't wait to see the finish.
ReplyDeleteIt is a short month, but how good will it feel to use up those old unloved bits and make room for new and more exciting fabrics?
ReplyDeleteI think those browns look yummy! Some are reddish, some are golden, and there is enough variety to make the mix really interesting. Blue and brown sure is a winning combination!
ReplyDeleteBrown! A great colour outdoors, in nature!
ReplyDeleteBrowns are needed for those chocolatey pieces!
Brown and blue! Looks good!

These two diamonds look made for each other! My thoughts on brown you already know Lee Anna and I too am happy it's a short month!
ReplyDeleteChocolate diamonds made with fabric are just the best!!! :) They are just wonderful! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteGreat way to use up your scraps! Very creative too.
ReplyDeleteI think the browns look very rich. And the blues and Browns look so nice together.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of variety in your brown block, which makes it look so good as a whole. I think sewing pieces together like you are doing sounds like a ton of fun!
ReplyDeleteLove your rich brown prints. How nicely the blue and brown goes together.
ReplyDeleteWhen my shop was very young (think 1980's), blue and brown were the reigning color palettes and I still love using them together!! The scrappy diamonds are terrific!
