I Like Thursday # 497 do you still eat kid's cereal for breakfast?

welcome to this week's list of likes... starting with a black and white photo I took of my porch

I liked sitting on the porch after work, drinking cherry juice with a splash of amaretto...
and having a sweet puppy again to join us

We set up a small sprinkler because it's dry and hot (90's in the sun) in Colorado in March... and I took a video of  Alfie (previously known as Dewi) who had never in all his 21 months see a sprinkler
I haven't figured out how to put it on the blog yet, but will by next week.

I couldn't stop laughing at his antics but suffice it  to say he was in Heaven playing...

reading two books, next in my hanna swenson mysteries on audio, and Sheila Connolly same book on ebook

watching Emily in Paris, Summer house, Baking championship, survivor on TV

working so hard to overcome pain in order to finish a challenge (stay at home round robin) but losing the battle.

I like sleeping through the night it just doesn't happen much anymore

Love my walks but they have become slow since my new walking partner stops at every tree trunk to sniff and or water it
all snow melted now, no snow left in dry hot Colorado in our usually snowiest month

I need to just leave the dog behind now, to resume my own exercise but it's hard to leave him.

I made a fabric bowl for one challenge, post here

 conversation starter this week:

what was your favorite breakfast cereal as a kid. Would you eat it now?

cocoa puffs, hand down, chocolate for breakfast? And Cap'n Crunch   Now, no... I found out as a young adult I had food allergies, and corn is hidden in a lot of foods in America. Corn syrup mostly and I now work hard to stay away from allergens in any form. I got a book from the library long ago that listed the way certain foods are hidden and know what to stay away from

I grew up in a family who thought breakfast must be fried eggs, toast with jelly, and more. I dieted through high school, (weight watchers) and had to learn to be hungry a lot...

In junior high "Instant Breakfast" was popular... I loved the flavor but it didn't stick with a person all the way to a school lunch time

my fave breakfast was home made french fries as a little girl! Those I might still eat!

Alfie: Mama! I know the answer.... I still like cherios any time of day, get out the box and teach me a new word !

poodle ears as he runs away!
please visit these fine folks and if you did an I Like post let me know to add in your link

  1. porridge as a kid - porridge now! These days with yoghurt, fruit and mixed nuts and seeds (back then - with milk ... and salted yuck! Can't do salted pirridge now.)

  2. We can't wait to see you playing under the sprinkler, Alfie! My mom didn't buy the really sweet cereals but I do remember a lot of Alphabets and of course, there was oatmeal and cream of wheat. I still eat cereal. I love grapenuts and shredded wheat.

  3. For years I had cereal (usually bran flakes, with or without raisins) and my husband had steel-cut oats (which I made by the pot). I had a box and a half of oats that I cooked up in his memory -- and I've kept on with oats ever since! Though he used butter, salt, and pepper, and I use craisins, milk and brown sugar, I imagine him saying, "I told you steel-cut is good!" every morning.

  5. Alfie is a perfect name for him. We've bounced from cold and snow here in eastern SD to 80 degree days now for 2 weeks. Crazy weather!

I had peanut butter toast as a kid most days, and still prefer that for breakfast. I don't like milk at all, so cereal was never something I chose. On Sunday mornings my dad always made a big breakfast - eggs, bacon, etc. It was the only day of the week he didn't go to work, and he loved to cook. When my own girls were little we made muffins on Sunday mornings.

  6. Mom loves watching the Baking Championship shows too. We hang out on the couch and sleep while she watches. Her favorite cereal was Trix or Apple Jacks. Now she decided to eat a whole food vegan diet so all that stuff is out for years now. As for the pup being too slow, you have to make him keep pace with you. We can sniff the first block or so but then it is serious walking with occasional stops for the "bathroom" If we are putzing she counts to three and then we are on our way. We know to pee before three or forget it.

  7. When my boys were little, I often gave them a little cup of Cheerios when we were going somewhere in the car, and my parents' dog (a dachsund) always knew there would be "treats" to clean up if he hopped into the back seat when we came over. I still wish I had a dog to clean up the floor for me, lol! Looking forward to seeing the video of Alfie playing in the sprinkler!

  9. Oh, my Gracie loves a sprinkler. At least for a while! I also used to eat Cocoa Puffs and Pop Tarts for breakfast growing up. I still take Pop Tarts to retreat for easy peasy breakfasts and I always bring a 1/2 gal of milk to go with it. Today, it's mostly Raisin Bran Crunch while playing a few puzzle games on my phone. What a bad habit! Lol! Let's see Alfie in the sprinkler!
