I Like Thursday # 474 leaves, skellies, paintings, and a plate of cookies

Dying to see you again!! LOL  welcome to this week's list of likes

starting with some more neighborhood  Halloween displays

how about this purple to blue sparkly BIG spider... a la Harry Potter!

the "web" goes over the whole front yard!

there is a decoration contest in another nearby neighborhood, and I have a lot of pics but I'll save some for next week. Meanwhile I saw some interesting things on our walks
ahem, a bench eaten by the earth, or for really short people? for dogs? for tired spiders?

a suburban scene, "killed by yardwork"
I love the look of these plants, fuzzy brown (for the rainbow scrap challenge focus color this month)
click on that pic to see more texture, wouldn't that be a challenge to paint?
hard to resist these
warm from the oven, oatmeal, pecan, choco chip cookies.... (recipe from Gasparilla cookbook)

clever doggie costume, altho it might give a dog nightmares!
such a cute kitty, or "paw-fessor McGonagle"

Quilting love, sewing those finished hexies together this week

finished pics on Saturday's creativity round up post

painting love, Jessica Swift free workshop all week

my shadow holding a leaf on the ground... just for fun...

I really learned a lot about creating a more defined waist hides a tummy,   here

I love our tree in the sun, the highlights colors shadows, texture of the brown trunk

Conversation starter this week:

do you still rake fallen leaves or just use a blower to clear them?

(personally I HATE the sound of a leaf blower, so I rake and dh bags them)

actually I find it soothing to rake leaves, order out of chaos, clean grass left behind, repetitive movements, sounds of crisp leaves.

this vista was stunning on our morning walk, yellow, green, pumpkin color, pink and maroon all on one tree........ I need to paint this fallen twig/leaves. What a graceful shape, right?

  2. Killed by yard work made me laugh. Isn't this kinda how so many of the younger generation feel when they have to mow... "it's too hot, I'm going to die mowing in this heat". lol. Have a good Thursday..

  4. You had me at cookies! I made some cookies this week too with three kinds of chocolate chips and pecans. Everything you said about raking leaves resonates with me too. Are you my long-lost sister? Hahaha! Here's to another good Thursday!

  8. I love the skeleton with the lawnmower! A warm plate of chocolate chip cookies sounds really good right now. They would not last long at our house!

  9. I always enjoy the fun ways people decorate their houses and yards for holidays. Love that purple spider!! That bench is an interesting enigma isn't it? You have some really cute Halloween hexies in that project. As for the leaves - our yard is actually over an acre with 60+ trees on it. My husband uses the mower and mulching attachment. Sometimes he'll use the bagger and collect the worst areas.

  11. I love the Halloween displays and I especially love the Golden Retriever martini! I don't mind raking leaves as long as it doesn't go on for six weeks.

  12. What fun decorations! Those cookies look yummy. That martini dog is a hoot! Those hexies look great. Pretty painting, too. I hate the sound of leaf blowers, too. We leave the leaves as is (and mow them into the grass).

And that quilt is gorgeous, I can't wait to see it finished! (Unless it is finished, then I still love it lol)

  16. Fun Halloween photos. Some people go the extra mile when it comes to decorating.
As for the question of the day, of course now that we live in an apartment we don't have to deal with leaves, but when we had the house DH always mulched them with the lawn mower so the 'good' would go back into the earth. He often would go out and retrieve bags of leaves from the neighbours and put them in our garden and till them in for extra nutrients. Now they're advocating leaving them be because they serve as winter homes for beneficial insects.
