I sewed on my big hexie quilt as you go blocks this week, and finished the 24 I need to make a wall quilt with them.
You basically stack backing, batting, hexie then quilt it. Next you fold the backing to the front one side at a time, fold twice to hide raw edges, clip in place, then do the next side, around. Now the block is quilted, edges finished and sewn into place
and now I have 24 finished quilt blocks to hand sew together into a quilt. I love how they came out, love the different backing purples and know it will look like a patchwork when I turn the quilt over.
I hand sewed a hexie section to put into the other scrappy halloween runner when I cut out the hexie shapes for those large QAYG blocks, I was left with some triangle shapes. Instead of throwing them away I sewed them to each other to make that top row.these rows are components not sewn to each other, just on the design wall
the next row is small rectangles sewn to each other
the bottom section is made of the small hexie EPP blocks
I have another set of hexies ready to add to these to make an 18" row
I signed up for a painting workshop I hope to do tomorrow, at least a couple of them
I have put up some older quilts around the house... I do love this one....

I want to try this easy painting trick... let me know if you try it!
(hint it's done by painting a string first)

So talented!
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful post, LeeAnna. We are lucky to not be quite as brown yet. Still lots of gorgeous colours about the property. Take Care, J
ReplyDeleteI've seen several videos using that string painting technique and thought that one day I might give it a try. I've also seen people using a fine chain to do the same thing.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have many hours of fun hand stitching those QAYG blocks together.
Love the Halloween theme! And I remember doing that kind of string art in school, although my results never looked THAT good!
ReplyDeleteI really need to use some Halloween fabric and make a quilt for the season.
ReplyDeleteThat thread painting looks super fun. I wonder how many they did and opened on film before they opened one they wanted to use/share...😂😏 I saw an honesty reel one day in which a gymnast spliced together all the attempts made before she got the perfect flip and landing. It made me a bit more realistic about some of the stuff I see demonstrated online. Editing is useful but can also give a false impression of the ease with which some things can be achieved.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing what you're working on each week. You are so creative and talented!
ReplyDeleteLove that dresden plate halloween piece - it is so much fun. Fun to see the hexies too, so many good projects, and so little time these days!
ReplyDeleteAll those hexies - so cute!! The dresden Halloween quilt is really pretty. I have a Halloween kit laying out to play with - but only IF I can finish a couple of things this week. The Halloween fabrics are always so fun.
ReplyDeleteThat pile of hexies is impressive and that string painting is beautiful! I might try it!
ReplyDeleteLoving those hexies you are quilting as you go. Great idea! Your Halloween Dresden quilt is so fun! The quilting you did on it is perfect. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. https://www.inquiringquilter.com/questions/2025/10/08/wednesday-wait-loss-453
