My creative week Sewing/painting/ tutorials

on offer this week at the creativity round up is drawing on index cards (no prompts), sewing on several projects, and video tutorials.

I started by watching a video on Botticelli and his work Venus. While watching I was struck by the beauty of venus and took out a stabilo crayon and index card to capture the feeling.

a quick line sketch with a water soluble stabilo crayon, then judicious use of a water brush to drag the black crayon into shadows.

a little white gel pen for highlights, and I just love her.

next up was a zentangle, with three designs used together. Pigma pen in .02 nib

a bit of shading with stabilo helped with depth but I quite liked doing all three designs

and then I wanted to see how the neocolor crayon in brown would shadow another portrait. Well they don't all work out

neocolor really dissolves quickly in water, and I had to dab a paper towel on her when too much would blend out. Still... I'd try it again.

next up Sewing... I made more x blocks (as described on last Saturday's post)

this week I made turquoise and purple blocks to accompany the orange ones. All from scrap bins

click on a photo so see it larger to see fabrics used. I started thinking I might do a cross stitch picture with these but I'm kind of enjoying the repetition and seeing how colors influence each other. Nothing is set in stone so they can take on many forms when I'm ready to really sew them. What would you do??

remember the tiny strips sewn together last week? Well, I finished my table scraps for this month, using orange scraps and embroidery. I'll share the whole thing next week for the link party reveals! For now, a teaser of some gold threads and simple lazy daisy stitches. It came out very pretty!!!

I pulled out some patterns to make a bag, box and doll and put them back... too much brain power needed for now!

the Botticelli video is here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbD2_r9zoio&t=929s

the zentangle video is here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znXXk6yXlbI)

and I found a great instructor for organic embroidery... she talks  a lot in the beginning so I being typeA skip a lot of it and her instruction is clear. She has SO many video tutorials... I've watched many

the neocolor crayosn...available where most art supplies are sold. I love mine used with a water brush

  1. I love your arty week LeeAnna. Those Xs on your quilting really really caught my eye. I am attracted to color and then pattern, and that piece hits the mark. What shall you do with it?? And nice faces too. I hope you've had a good week and have a lovely weekend ahead. Give Milo a pat for me too. hugs-Erika

  2. You do fun things with index cards, LeeAnna! They seem like a great way to try a technique without using an expensive piece of paper. The X blocks are great - I, too, like seeing how one color flows to the next. Looking forward to seeing the reveal of your table scraps piece!

  6. Leann, wanted to pop back and ask you to leave your name and url rather than anonymous when you leave a comment. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find you; but went through my blog list and luckily I had edited the link when I added you to include your name.
    Thanks and keep creating.

  10. The gold embroidery adds some wonderful detail. I always have fear of adding embellishments but you definitely have an eye for it. And I'm loving those cute little X blocks.
