the making of yellow plates

I spent an hour with my yellow fabrics, and cut out some blades for a dresden plate pattern.
What fun to choose tone and patterns to put together.
So this is how I did it...
After you fold the blade in half lengthwise, and sew across the end causing it to make a point, you sew pairs together.
I'm just stringing you along...
then sew pair to pair
quartet to quartet
til you sew the last piece to the first in a circle of happiness.
On to pressing matters...
press open
then give it a good press and put it on the design wall with the other two.
Heyyyyyy... it seems bigger... I measured it... what happened here?
Oh, it is bigger. Well, I am not remaking it. I'll make it all work.

Loving those Dresden Plates! I made a table runner a few years ago with Dresdens in a variety of sizes scattered around. It even had a couple of partial ones touching the edges. You are an artist so I'm confident you will come up with a plan that will make those sing!!

Those are pretty yellows in your Dresden! Looks like fun putting it together - that's a block I've never made.

I've never done a Dresden, though it was one of my grandmother's favorites. She made several of them over the years, and I can't think of any other pattern that she ever repeated. As I admire your pretty pretties, I'm thinking I should probably give it a try myself!

Dresden Plates are so much fun. There is no rule that says they must all be the same size.

Love your Dresdens! I still have this on my list...perhaps one day! As always, I can't wait to see the finish!

Thanks for sharing how your blocks go together. Yummy YELLOW scraps were used!! Funny, how I just assumed the block was larger in order to layer the colors. Whatever you did, do it more and it becomes a design feature!!

Beautiful Dresden plates - did you figure out what made the size difference? I inherited some that wouldn't lay flat....I took out one of the "blades" and then they were flat. Thanks for linking with Design Wall Monday - I appreciate you. Judy

So pretty! I think the change in size is fine. It must be Dresden season, I'm also working on one.

Ooh, I like your Dresden plates! I was captivated when I saw Alex Anderson's guest make that style of Dresden's and rushed to my sewing room after scribbling madly down directions...a squirrel moment a way back then. The yellow makes me think of daffodils which are finally bursting forth everywhere here.

Hi LeeAnna I do so like your dry humour I giggle as I read through your blog. Love your blade Dresden blocks, and the best part they grow so quickly if you do them by machine, when I think of the dozens and dozens I made with English paper piecing 20 years ago !!!! Big Hugs Glenda PS love the wee iron second one I’ve seen today?

It always amazes me that no matter how much we measure and check sometimes the math just seems to do its own thing. Lovely little dresdens and I like the way the yellow frames the green one - you could stack one on top of the other for a lovely effect.

Those yellows are just beautiful! I got a chuckle out of your stringing you along pun. I do love a great pun!

Beautiful! Putting the green plate on top of the yellow plate works well too!
