I Like #82 ...flowers, dolls, videos, treasures and poodle mischief

Welcome to this week's list of likes. Starting with Iris.
this little Bunny-girl has lived with me since my time in Tampa... she holds an old quilt.

I could never have have chopped up an antique quilt but I sure love that some artisan did.

I have thoroughly enjoyed youtube this week, watching Mary Berry's ( tours of castles), and "Who do you think you are" click here to start UK. It's been fascinating and I want to see them all now. I love the American version and had no idea it had been done in England long before.

I learned so much about history. Lineage and family are fascinating to me, as I have none.
I learned that humans have fought over pretty much all religions, for all history.
When will we tire of arguing over ways of worship? What a waste of time and humanity.

I went to the Sewing Expo in Denver last Friday, found some fun items to purchase, and met some like minded people in the doll making guild.
check out those red toenails!

They encouraged me to come to a meeting, and I said I might have found my peeps. The booth minder said, yes indeed, I had!
Doll makers are keen observers of human nature and love details. Me too.
Not to mention, they have great sewing skills, as it's not easy to sew tiny gussets and fingers.
I admired the lace makers although this is not one of the things I want to explore myself..
Like any artisan, they surround themselves with supplies that are beautiful and useful. This is the working tray of a woman who said she had wanted to learn the skill from a young age.
Intricate! Beautiful! delicate threads in brilliant colors. Working your way through the pattern is time consuming but like any making, it's all about the making not the speedy production of items.
Although I have done weaving, and many other crafts, I was most struck by the lovely collection of bobbins used to hold and organize the threads to wind around the little pins in pattern.

I enjoyed looking through shops I don't usually see on the East coast shows, and I got to meet Laura Heine, a painter and quilter who's work I have long admired.
I kind of tried to lean closer to her as she didn't want to come out, but it was fun for me to put a face with the image I created of her over the years.

A shop from Washington State had cool headbands, including this spoon tiara...
Now why didn't I buy that??
These are a few more things I did purchase...

and the one that got away was the little pin cushion tuffet kit... dang! I was going to go back and buy that!

I found an art supply store in nearby Parker,(Guiry's)  that welcomed Milo into shop as well.
What a treasure trove of supplies that was. I went to find some caron d'arche pastel crayons to try on fabric, and they had maybe 8 brands from which to choose. And lots of inks, and paints, and markers. I couldn't leave these bags behind either...
the crayons, a stadler gold pen, and ink pad I've never tried. Plus the two bags!!!
I liked this cow in the shop...
gratuitous cow photo
I opened boxes in the studio storage in order to create again (post on that improv tomorrow)

improv sewing with scraps
Then two days later found out we are no longer allowed to stay in this rental indefinitely, but must leave in three months. We have continually looked for a home to buy, and tried to sell our home in MD with no success. I am frightened and sorry we ever made a move.

That said, here I am trying to remember there were good things from this week. Following the antics of Milo made me laugh through the tears...

Milo's Moment:
Hi Y'all! I have always, in all my one year of life, enjoyed paper. It makes a very satisfying sound when it rips.
And this was like the clown car of paper! Daddy ordered something from the guy who drops off boxes at the door, and this one had LOTS of long paper.

I grabbed a hold of an end and dragged it to my place in the family room..

so I pulled...
and pulled
and PULLED til I got it to a place where I could destroy it like the other newspapers I found...
UH, OH... I thought to myself, where's the Mama? What's she getting into? I tell ya I can't leave her alone for a moment... then I heard her shout...

"MILO!!! What the fizzy have you been doing!??"
I mean, I am not ashamed to say she startled me!

I said, um, nuffin... munching on some paper. I mean helping you to recycle. I may have pulled out a few toys, and er, a shoe or two as well, why do you ask?

Did you want to play with the paper? Sorry but it's pretty chewed up right now, maybe the guy will bring another box of it tomorrow.

That's it, now

Hi LeeAnna,
HAHA - oh Milo! That last shot said it all - b.u.s.t.e.d. I really had to giggle at the random shoes, newspaper, and the longgggggg trail of paper. Goodness, I love that dog. Three months?! Eek - that just means you'll be finding your perfect place shortly. {{Hugs}} a bunch. ~smile~ Roseanne

Bobbin and Milo have the same paper fetish obviously and toys must be spread accordingly. Looks like a great outing, so many pretty things.

Hi LeeAnna,
What fun stuff this week! A sewing expo! A great way to meet and greet like minded!
Milo! Looks like they over package things there like they do here! You captured that experience really well!
A new location before the Summer?
Hugs,
Joanne

What a chock a block post, LeeAnna. I'm envious you got to meet Laura Heine, I've talked about her on the blog and love her work.
Lace bobbins are beautiful...what wonderful tools of the trade. I've read lace making is experiencing a revival.
Ah yes, the beauty of random crap and Milo with his paper trail. At least he's not gnawing away half of the toilet paper rolls like Murphy has been known to do!

I absolutely loved this post. So fun, different, inspiring till the last--I cannot believe you have to move in 3 months. You cannot catch a break on your living arrangements. UGH. Just when you were getting comfortable opening boxes for crafting. I would have gotten that "Crap" bag at the show also. Thanks for showing so many things at the show! Your bunny with the quilt is priceless. Thanks for including me and have a good day! mary in Az

That Milo just cracks me up! I feel so bad about how your housing situation is going. It's just not fair. But I love the rest of the "random crap". Excellent post.

What a very interesting show you attended - lots and lots to look at and appreciate. Sorry to hear about the limit on the rental -- and just out of curiosity, is the original reason you made this move still valid? Or has there been enough experience gained to re-direct you elsewhere? Hang in there - it will all work out somehow (despite the stressors in the meantime).

Milo pulling the packing paper is hilarious. And I'm excited to hear that Mary Berry has some other shows. I loved the Great British Baking Show, I'll have to check out the castles one. I'm so sorry the housing situation is becoming more urgent. What a mess!

Love your green improv sewing on the design wall! The way you help Milo tell his stories is always wonderful - he has such personality! We'll check out the YouTube shows, too.

I am glad you took us to the show with you. It was a good visit. :D
Love that the neutrals include an eye dazzling stripe! Who prints the one with the writing?
Thanks for the gratuitous cow. ;-)
Brilliant spoon headband/tiara.
So, so sorry your moving is coming sooner than you thought. Maybe as spring comes you will see a place you like...and someone will see the other place and like it!

And Milo - that paper is useful paper. I usually roll it up and save it. and since Mr. Thoughtful does a lot of ordering, I have several rolls. Tell your Mama it is better than dead tissues from the bin.

Lovely collections of things! Looks like a great show to attend. I have always loved bobbin lace and have always wanted to learn how to do it. Your poodle is such a cutie!

Glad you got to the expo and found kindred spirits there. And Guiry's....ah, what a treat!

Milo...you sure know how to do paper! Sorry you won't be able to stay at the postage size yard and house all that long. Keeping our paws crossed something changes for the pawsitive on the house front, both here and in Maryland.

That last picture of Milo is priceless. Love the iris and the bunny. So sorry you're life has been turned upside down again just when you were finding some good things. At least spring is hopefully on the way. Life always looks more positive in spring.

I'm thinking the bunny with her hand over her mouth is giggling ... what else can you do when Milo says "nuffin" with a mouth full of paper!

I am impressed with the lace-maker - probably because I know my eyes aren't good enough to do that kind of detailed work!

Thanks again for inviting me to participate - a very happy Easter to you, my friend!

What an amazing show - I don't have any particular interest in dolls, and yet I've found that I have quite a few stunning ones I've pinned on Pinterest because they've intrigued. So maybe I have more of an interest than I ever thought. LOL I adore that stunning "dragon rides" art doll/sculpture. I could examine that for hours!
My sister makes bobbin lace - and I've often found myself mesmerized by her hands working and find myself lost in gazing at her working.
Thanks for sharing your visits - and your Milo's adventure LOL.
... and happy Pink Saturday!

Am sure the sewing expo was close to heaven for you! Used to sew a lot, but have gone rusty now I paint all the time. Love the doll with the orange hair, she's hard to resist! Thank you for sharing all these details with all Seasons! Have a great week!

Lace making looks really complicated. I remember as a kid seeing a bag of lace that my great grandmother brought with her from Norway in the late 1800s. She was a seamstress so I am sure she used them in her trade. - Margy

I love love love Milo, of course, but am most impressed with learning "bobbins used to hold and organize the threads" — is THAT how they do it? Well, whodathunkit. Not I, not in a million years. Thanks for the puppy fix and the info and a fun trip through your life, LeeAnna!

"Do you want to play with the paper?" Very sweet of Milo to be willing to share his toy. :-) I had no idea there were crayons specifically for fabric. Oh boy I need to check those out. Hope your house sale/buy works out for you soon.
