Aqua Leaves... or Petals???

The color of the month at So Scrappy changed to Aqua.  Something that evokes the sea... fresh, between green and blue, and a bit lighter than turquoise or teal... isn't it grand!?!

I LOVE this color. I love this color with Red, and Coral, and it's warmer compliments. My camera doesn't give you the full depth of colors here but they are lovely, textural, and varied. For instance the bottom right one is grunge so it has other colors mixed in.
All from the scrap box. I began to run out of room in green and blue scrap boxes so I made a new one of turquoise. It might be my favorite box now... these are the large leaves from "paper pieces" but I have already begun to cut my own by tracing around their leaf. I used a heavier weight paper, and took my time to baste through paper and fabric, slowly enjoying each stitch.

I sewed while my husband drove us to an ice sculpture festival in Frederick yesterday. We were listening to one of my favorite Serious XM radio stations, "the Bridge" which is music from my high school and college years.

I grew up in Florida, going to the beach a lot. I wore a bikini, I was tanned with blond streaks in my brown hair, legs strong from dance classes. I had no idea I was fit... I felt fat always. I compared myself to others. Can you relate? I wrote down my memories of many trips to the beaches:

Beach time
The beach, that smell... a mix of saltwater, coppertone and fresh air.

The sand soft and white as it filters through  fingers, sifting like sugar, over and over... allowing her mind to take a rest.
Idle thoughts drift and sift like the sand.

Sounds of gulls, swoosh of tide, crinkle of cochina shells as they tumble over each other with the foam of the wet shoreline, a softer swish of palm fronds brushing against each other.

Deeper go feet into the sand, sift another handfull, thoughts play like monkeys.

Swish, sighs the tide.

Catching a bit of a tune from a passing radio.
A gull calls.

Sift more soft sand.

Consider a long walk through wet sand along the edge of the world. Yes.  Feel cool water and cochinas tickle toes... foam  at the water's edge is so white... and soft...

Walk for miles to only turn around and walk back.
(wonder what hotel is the low beach chair in front of...)

The walk is slow and sensual, graceful movement of long tanned dancer's legs in no hurry, no rush to be anywhere but here, now. Wet sand massaging away tension.

Gulls call out. Breezes blow wisps of hair. The sun feels so warm on heated skin. It contrasts with cool water lapping at feet.

The low chair calls out.
Sift. The sand flows through her fingers, over and over.

Soft.
As she looks at the horizon... the world is so. Very. Big.
And so very small.
In her hands

This is a color combination that I would not choose on my own, but now that I see it, I like it. It reminds me of the colorful quilts by Piece O Cake. I would love to walk on your beach on this winter Michigan day.

Love the teal on the red background. Your poem about the beach took me there. And the video was a bonus. Thanks.

Lovely post and I like the colors, too, but honest, as soon as I saw that first picture I thought "why is Leeanna making marijuana leaves?" Ha! I guess we know where my mind goes!

OOOOH, thanks for sharing the music. :) I'd be happy to live on a beach forever. Sigh. Been down with a cold going on two weeks - the music made my day.

The blue greens really do look great on that coral background fabric. Is is just me thinking that the first arrangement looks a little like a certain hallucigenic herb?

I, too, love this aquamarine color, and need to pull out my scraps and play in them. Your leaves are so pretty, I'm wondering what you'll do with them! Thanks, also, for putting the ocean in my imagination today. I could just sit by it forever!

Those colors lift my spirits! They remind me of something juicy and refreshing. I especially enjoy your Beach Time recollections. Such peaceful imagery.

You certainly have a way with words. On our first (and only) visit to the Caribbean I fell in love with those blue-green hues. I like to use them with the warmer colors, too.

The Bridge is my husband's favorite Sirius channel too, so we usually listen to it in his vehicle. I love the beach and just don't get tired of listening to the waves But I don't get to visit a beach nearly often enough

I#m a fan of aqua and I will paint the hallway in this color... (as soon as mark is no longer shocked and speechless lol). It has something from a land beyond the sea and it is a great color what can encourage people to dream a little...

Love this beach post. I could almost feel the warmth and slowness of time with your poetry. My favorite photo of petals is the last one. Also enjoy the "Summer Breeze" choice of a tune. Thanks. mary

Teal on red is always a winner in my books. And the video made me feel 17 again. Thank you for that!!

Thanks for the memories. Growing up was only an hour away from the beach in CA, now 5 hours away. Have done a read and teal quilt. Red is my favorite color and teal is my girlfriends favorite. Made a teal quilt for her with red for me so she would think of me every time she used it.

Love the "Leaf/Petals"! Turquoise is such a great color. Oh and thanks for posting the song. It always sends me back to a simpler time!

Wonderful color combo. I don't think the coral background would have occurred to me. Not sure I even have anything quite that color.
We listened to The Bridge on the second half of our journey to FL, after my husband revolted about the classical station. Happy that you are playing with fabric.

Love the turquoise/teal leaves on coral - the perfect combination. Love your beach memories too.

I just loved seeing what you are working with...love the colors. I just know I don't have a favorite color. My least favorite to work with is black, but that is NOT saying I don't like it. I just don't like to work with it.

I do like that song...it is from my younger days.

Beyond gorgeous!!! Definitely drool-worthy!

I had to laugh when I read Mari's comment because that is what flittered through my mind when I saw the thumbnail photo, too.

How creative - a quilter and a poet. The sea green does make me think of summer breezes. Thanks for the throw back hit.

You have such a wonderful eye for color. I always enjoy seeing what you're putting together!

What a wonderful color combination. It kind of reminds me of "unsuccessful" meditation where you have these small parts of your brain seeking calm while the rest of the brain rages behind it.

Love your writing - it so reminds me of walking on the beach. Your leaves are lovely on that background - reminds me of a colorful coral reef underwater.

LOVE those leaves and really love the teal on the orangey red, just gorgeous! I didn't discover Florida beaches until my 50s, but your words sure bring back memories of those wonderful walks. :)
