Working on green today

I made three small artworks from silk scraps. Abstracts. When they hung on the design wall I saw doorways. Entries.   Maybe portals. Definitely leading into our out of somewhere.
I am learning about abstraction with each project.
Because I am "me" I look for meaning in them before I start quilting, this time seeing passages. I wrote a story for each...

The Green Door
So stately and tall-comprised of squares not quite square. With a window...a peek "into"
The door is closed and quite crooked. Yet I know it opens...

What is behind the door?
Where does it lead?

Does it open to a room, a hall, the world?
Is the room large & well-lit? Full of books or empty with one big chair and a table?
Does it feel cool or warm? Large or small, bright or dim?
Is it a magical doorway leading each of us to a different place or is there some shared reality whereby we each see the same place?

Even seeing the same place we might feel differently there.

That is magic too.

If we came in together would we gravitate to people who saw it like we did, forming groups and friendships based on perceptions?

Would we feel threatened by those who saw it differently or be interested in learning about our differences?

My room is safe, well lit with soft light and holds a comfy chair. Not too large nor too small. No one is there but me. I want to sit and read, to think, to feel peace. To find acceptance that who I am is enough.
 The End.

What do you see?

Making The Green Door.
Obviously it's not quite finished. The squares were turned so that they would catch the light, there are two fabrics with another  light green one in center. I not concern myself with matching when I saw the bits of leftover squares. They were for a silk hexi flamingo that was finished about 3 years ago so rough cut.

The thick gold thread is candlelight, frays upon snipping it, and hand embroidered. I like this look (see top picture)

I liked the fraying and decided to keep it.
I liked the Jinny Beyer scrap with it.
I am deciding whether to add the green silk as a border or a wide binding only.
One doorway is finished and I'll show the close up next week. My abstract flamingo is done and beaded too.
I am choosing a background for the third portal in gray, currently on the stonehenge fabric.

tomorrow close ups of quilting and embellishments on the blue one

Happy St. Patricks day, when all are Irish. It's nice to be included isn't it?

The wider green border on the green door to me makes it look like a picture in a frame and the window does not draw me to it. The narrow border makes me focus on the window, on the door itself. Happy St. Pat's day from a Fitzpatrick.

amazing. I listened to the song on Youtube and the lyrics are like my story!

that's a great way to discuss it. I agree, and had decided to just bind it with the green, now I know why.

My fathers birthday was today, so it was always special in my family. Love your green door! It leads to a visit with my father, perhaps!

The best part about good art is we can interpret it our own unique way. I see myself flying over a farmers field (Angel that I am) the breeze is blowing the grasses giving each square its own sheen and look. Gold hay is coming thru as well. I may just land on that nice green square in the middle and rest awhile in my own haven of green

These look terrific and I LOVE how you seen totally immersed in the craft with so many senses.

Green! Great colour indeed!
Love the textures and abstract of it all!
Amazing results from "use it"!

It's interesting to see you doing something a bit more abstract, but I love the idea of doorways too. These look excellent.

WOW, you visited my blog and I LOVE quilts and had no idea anyone still really made them. I sleep on mama's quilt sometimes and it's really old. Maybe I'll put some photos of them on my blog. Thank you for visiting me, Loulou
